Record collecting has jumped the shark. This happens to every innocent, authentic activity. Legos were cool, but now there are shows were adults compete creating Lego artworks. Building a treehouse was cool but now adults are building mansion treehouses. Every innocence, authenic hobby or interest is muscled in on, co-opted by adults, who then ruin it.

Holy crap you know me and my thoughts better than myself! EXACTLY THIS! It's been five years since I've been "record shopping" - still listening to new and old music, but digging through crates isn't fun when you can see Whipped Cream and Other Delights being sold for $35 in poor condition because its kitschy.

Geez. I love The Tubes. And all of these years I actually thought that I was turning many people onto them. Oh well. {smile} Yeah Kris. It is what it is. Nowadays I keep in touch with a few handfuls of the older VC friends offline. They do not have any interest in making videos anymore. Which is cool with me. Mark {Doctor Deadwax} said it well about ten years ago. He said that eventually the original core group of the VC will breakdown and everyone will start doing different things. He was right. Everything changes, evolves, etc... I have met some new people/fellow collectors that I enjoy watching. The VC will continue and we will hold onto those amazing early days of this community that I loved so much. Heck. I have not stopped watching you in all of these years. I love you and Marissa. Thank you for your con't friendship~ Rob/Boston

You like The Tubes? Unsubscribed. I talked to Mark last month on the phone for an hour. The fact that we still talk, its been like 10 years since he made a video, he no longer collects or has records, and we still have a connection is the VC part that is still special to me (and why I am still here), though that is NOT what the VC is for anyone new from what I can tell. That's progress, but I still can reminisce about how my VC was THE VC for a little bit, even if it isn't anymore. Having said that, you and I are glossing over the cliques that were always there, the pettiness and in fighting that came after a couple of years, but since we never got dragged into it - that was always their problem, not outs. But core to the VC was it was decentralized - it was as big or as small as you wanted it to be. I guess for this lady, her VC she is the leader - and I guess she is for her VC. My VC, Trish is the leader. And Paneeks is the patron saint.

Been involved with the VC for 10 years also....it has definitely changed. I miss some of the core ol-timers! I stopped watching vc vids for a year or so, as it was just getting out of hand with all the haters and people bashing on each other. It's a community, not a contest! I watched because I had a similar interest and love music. Period. The ego trips need to be left outside. Period. I have enjoyed your channel over the years and re-subscribed (unsub-scribed from most of the vc channels for a yr or two, as was getting totally disgusted). I'm very selective now...😊

@@retrorhon63 Of course, the VC is as big or as small as you make it - so I remember when all of those mostly dudes with chips on their shoulders started all that trouble, I was never a subscriber of theirs anyway so it never touched me… but then so many people just fed into it, which is always the worst with social media - people making an echo chamber of negativity to get out frustrations they feel in their lives and misdirect it into nonsense. Hopefully I didn’t do that here, because I do hate that. Thanks for resubbing, Rhonda, and I am honoree that Im in your feed.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had one of these type rants, Kris, so thanks for keeping them going. 😂 I’ve been making videos since 2018. Started watching vinyl-related videos in 2017. In all honesty… I’ve never witnessed this Holy Commune that all you “leaders” talk about once existing. It’s probably been “dead” for a lot longer than you realize. My guess is the shelf-life was 3 years - tops. I have a group of folks that I regularly communicate with. I have met people since I started making videos that I consider friends. We’ve met up. We’ve sent each other records. But, I’m always glad when somebody keeps me level-headed and reminds me that it’s just a clique and not a community. Ahhh… I never really cared for labels anyway. Hope all is well on the farm. ✌🏻

Well, the point I definitely failed to make is there are no leaders of the vinyl community. There never was - there may have been some early pillars, but they got bored of the community, vinyl, and frankly themselves and burnt out and faded away. Me, I'm amazing, so I keep cranking out this crap once a week (though the vinyl content has trickled down to a middle aged man's pee stream with an enlarged prostate). Luckily next VC video is on something important, Daniel Johnston. VC has changed, changed some more, changed again, and so have online communities. It's nothing like Compuserve, Prodigy, BBS's, and eventually AOL. Those were the days (not really)...

Thank you so much for checking out the video (and others) - been making a video a week for the past 12+ years I think at this point - they are all broken out in my playlists so you can watch just the stuff that interests you (so old on YT, they used to only let you make one channel, but now they want you to make multiple channels with just one type of content - but its too late now as far as I'm concerned). So glad you have been enjoying the VC - there isn't a city I can go to where I don't know someone intimately enough to just let them know I'm there and they will come and meet me and show me around. That's the real power of the VC - the records are secondary - its the friendships.

Take me to your leader Kris. Everything evolves, but there’s still soul in the VC, it’s just grown bigger, like everything. There are a group of vc creators I watch regularly and enjoy the banter and the music. My music record obsession keeps me here, and I love watching and creating, especially now during my so called retirement. I don’t know this self described leader you mention, but who cares? I feel there’s more crap in the world to get up about. I never thought I’d ever watch adults enjoying a day or two at amusement parks. But watching your travels always make me smile. And ranting can be very therapeutic. Best. M. 🤠❤️‍🔥

I suppose that's the real problem, Mazzy - bigger groups always disappoint me. Best time you've seen a band is usually in a small club, where you all get it. By time they made it to a concert hall, they may sound better and look better, but that fire is gone. So many great VC members, some I always worry about losing, where I actually learn and discover something. Sam came back, but he's gone into the Arizona desert again, I think. Really, the VC isn't my hobby, making VC videos is my hobby - so it has always been one sided to a point. Making videos for my entertainment, hoping I entertain someone else. Plus, to be fair, if I was going to nominate a current member of the VC as a leader, it would be you and Vinyl Richie - but that's just me.

Hey Kris, i always appreciates your videos (even if I'm not across commenting on every one these days). I don't see this one as being about WHO would be self appointing as a VC leader, but WHY they feel the need to (and to a lesser extent why viewers might accept that unquestioningly). And your video is about rambling or feeling out some answers. Your 'early days of the VC' remind me very much of Dunbar's Number of 150 as being a cognitive limit to a cohesive social group. When it gets bigger, things fragment in different ways, which i guess is how the VC has evolved and continues to provide a different meaning of community to those who participate. Perhaps the size now dictates that some require the notion of a 'leader' to navigate the community. One thing is for sure, it's a long way from the niche community you helped form those years ago. And from what i know about you from your videos, your tastes etc is that you have very niche interests, or things you often discover before most folks (your recent Sparklehorse story springs to mind). Once they become bigger, that feeling of 'speaking to you' recedes as the message becomes more 'universal' and less specific. (I feel that's why i end up loving early albums of bands I discover and don't attach to as many later albums). I should say that the joy of this video and the evolution of your channel for me is that you are the niche that your community has formed around. And that should be celebrated!!

Man, 150 just sounds right - that's about where I noticed it was dissolving back in the old days. Same with the VC FB page. At this point, I am not active enough in finding new channels/watching/commenting to get them to notice me, and nobody new seeks out other people, really, so my only hope is people stumble upon me from internet searches, comments of people I DO watch and know, or my onlyfans page. BUT, I'm past the idea of the VC (sort of), anyway - I make videos, I have friends, people watch me, I watch them, people comment, I comment - and whatever container I fit in this week I will not fit in next week. Given up on the idea of showing only vinyl, or even only physical media, and I just talk about what interests me that week, or if I think I have something to add and maybe entertain. People will watch or not (or try to tear me down for not fitting in the container THEY think I need to be in). Hope everything is great with you, Dean. We have been decluttering/removing stuff in the house which is 20 years overdue and it has been nice to have less stuff. We have A LONG way to go, but every step is a forward step. We have also been obsessed with watching the channel Drain Cleaning Australia, and now I know what a Dunny is.

We are on borrowed time with her as well, but she is just as spry as when we got her. We lost our white barn cat Willie - literally. He would go in hunting sabbaticals and disappear a few times a year for a day or three. Well, this one he just didn’t come back - either a coyote got him, a car, or his medical condition (we had to give him daily medicine for slow intestinal movement, and without those he could have succumbed.). We do have Jim - a small terrier that was my mothers (she passed) and he is a little bundle of joy. I would always be preferred to be known as the VC Pervert, but I think Robert Zee took that title away from me years ago. I'm more of a passive aggressive know-it-all failed hipster, but then again, that's true of most record collectors. Out of most of the VC channels pumping out different variations of the same content (including me), Sir Headley stands alone with his unique Country Rock collection, along with Zeek and his redneck peckerwood Country. For a long time Psych was the new Jazz in the VC - now, I think its reissues or tone poets.

I always intended to repay the VCLT, but life happened, and I never got to it. That's bad on me. My goodness, Troy - it has been forever! I hope you have been doing good - and VCLT is always given in the spirit of a gift from one to another - never a debt or expectation that something needs to be returned. It's been at least five years since I have bought a vinyl record - same thing, it was fun when it was cheap - but now I'm at the point where I am trying to find rarer stuff, and honestly all of that is free on RU-vid - I can just listen to it here (and probably in better quality than what I would find in the wild). Also, at least for me and my friends (who were budget collectors), the vinyl enthusiasts have become like wine snobs - record collectors always had that aspect, but now it is way more pronounced and prevalent. I really should be digitizing these things and moving a large percentage back into the market - I don't think it has bust yet and I could make a small fortune - but I'm too busy for that. Take care!

I don’t know who’s channel you’re referring to, but I do agree, it’s irresponsible to name yourself a leader of the community, I understand the frustration. I started like 6 or 7 years ago, I remember what it was like then, and it still had that charm. I got kicked out of the community early on by one of the old curmudgeon VC “leaders” 🤣 So a few months in, I just started making friends and I was told I wasn’t welcome because I sold records on the side. I just felt like there was too many rules, and I wouldn’t walk on eggshells. So I stopped addressing the VC in my videos and just made them for whoever would watch, and I still found my community on RU-vid. Anyways, all that to say, although I don’t agree with appointing yourself a leader, I think there’s still community to be had. Not everyone is gonna know eachother, but I’m just thankful there’s enough interest in vinyl to have so many people watching videos. I don’t think you and I have ever met in person but I’ve seen a bunch of your videos and have been subscribed for a long time ✌️
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 4 месяца назад
Oh, that's horrible to hear, Dillon, and definitely I could see that happening. Just like any hipsters, vinyl collectors have a whole set of rules that you have to know, and if you don't know them, you're out, and I know for a fact one of them was selling records - which is utter nonsense. Vinyl collectors HAVE to sell records to be able to afford the rare stuff - there is no way to be sustainable after you have gotten the bulk of normal records - you have to buy collections, go to estate sales, and flip to be able to get the $500 record (that you got in a collection for $1000). BUT, because they weren't at that kind of position (or intelligence) they immediately turn it into "selling out". Utter nonsense, but I totally see how people would do that. Record collecting has always been a masturbatory hobby for the most part - you go in alone, you purchase alone, you listen alone. The VC was one of the more novel ways to be an exhibitionist. Good records shops (like yours, who make it inviting) are other places, but you are limited in geography, population, finances, etc. while anybody with a desire to be on cam can just come on and join. No barriers, but some of that anti-social behavior can creep in. Its funny - just like a few other hobbies that are just about enjoyment and sharing your love of the hobby, it always gets clique-y and filled with rules by people when the truth is there are no rules (or leaders, or mayors, or dues) - film snobs, coffee snobs, wine snobs, record snobs - its just part of it. These rules are set up to obscure their own limitations or dislikes - but, even the concept of laws are all made up. An entire society could simply decide, nope, and that's it. Bad, easy example - gay marriage - it wasn't a thing 20 years ago, and probably inconceivable for the general population. And now it is, with no real question about it. Can't even think of a time when it wasn't.

Livestreams in the beginning used to be nice - see a dude you are friendly with and get into it on a deep cut, but now its people just reading comments in the chat and grunting answers back - not really learning opportunities. We tried making group chats in the beginning, but that failed. I think I remember Jeff Party! I have met with people who have been viewers only for years (even show up in one of our old Disney videos) - just because you don't make videos doesn't mean you are excluded from the community - any participation of any type counts. Same with WDW community. Passion is definitely #1, and this person has it - her videos are fantastic and impeccable. Even well-worn albums I learn something or get a different perspective - no faults on that. But no one channel is better than another, and a kid starting out who has heart is every bit important and valid as a TheNeedleDrop with 100k+ subscribers. Since I was an early person while YT was only a few years old, it is that sense of democracy and level playing field that is still stuck in me - and that is probably what irked me. Your commentary cracks me up because 1) there are now so many vinyl communities I haven’t seen this chick and 2)she is the 3rd person I have heard claiming they should be the “leader”. I really think we may need a VC rebranding as the name has been co-opted. I definitely think the streamers don’t want community, they want viewers. I definitely don’t think the “influencers” or those who strive to have a tv show don’t want community. BUT, there are pockets of people still doing the vinyl community thing! The “youngest members of the vc” get together and love records and share the music they love (but honestly, I think their community is safer being apart from the old farts who have become drama hounds). Anyway, we’re still out here! Paneeks is still out there! YOU are still out there! We just have to keep from losing anymore good folks to the frustration of it all. ❤️

Wow, great comments Jenny! Influencers - it is also what took away a lot of the fun I used to get in the Disney World Community - everyone angling to make the same exact video so they can quit their jobs and go to theme parks as a career (which is unsustainable). Literally hundred wannabees. Flight Sim community, same thing - people who want to be professional streamers and they give no real knowledge or value, and 3/4 of the time doing the same stupid shoutouts to people who subscribe or give donations. As for drama hounds - oh yeah, people have tried to get me to watch those dog fights - always seem to happen on livestreams - which are also incredibly boring - its one person responding to whomever is in chat (or on screen) and barely talking about anything - its like watching assholes debate sports in a bar. Plus, just the market has changed - we made videos 10 years ago where you could get cool records for a buck - and while you still kind of can do that, my local thrifts have dried up because there is a record store in town that goes daily and literally will buy a Billy Joel album VG-- and sell it for $40. Piano Man for $40 in unplayable condition. At this point, I have my friends - since new people don't seek me out, I have kind of given up my monthly searches for them (Paneeks and I use to literally search for "Introduction to VC" and find them). I'm more than happy to watch new people, but now it is due to shoutouts or I seem them comment a lot and click - otherwise I'm one of the old farts now. Plus, I'm not going anywhere - I haven't scratched the surface of stuff I want to talk about. Daniel Johnston video is my next one.

I actually do care about your knee and Rob’s Mama and Randy’s sick cat….And the records that help you through it all! lol! We look up Vinyl community 2012(or pick a pre-stream revolution date) and enjoy the enthusiasm of folks back then just stoked to find cool wax at the thrift. Our thrift store employees tell me there are folks who come 4-5 times a day to make sure they get anything good for their resale businesses. I don’t fault anyone for making a living, but it sure has taken the thrill out of the hunt knowing most likely those records that should have been a buck will be 40x that on marketplace tomorrow. Just gruesome…(ps- don’t think it’s keeping me from thrifting. I still hope to be the one that finds that weird something special despite the odds😂) Anyway, Hang in there! Hey Kris I liked this ramblage, and you made some interesting points. I've only been a ' VC member' ( whatever that is) for 4 years and i have less than 500 subscribers..i would wager that less than 10% of those watch my videos regularly and even less so comment. We're all fickle, and i'm as guilty as anyone else for subscribing to a channel i find mildly interesting and then not watching regularly whenever they upload. Having thousands of subscribers means zip and there's genuinely no sour grapes here..no way every person who subscribes watches your videos all the time, it just doesn't happen..therefore those 10 -20 who do take the time and comment are those that clearly value the content that you produce and in my case those are generally the channels i follow, because there's that connection, a kinship that resonates and that's important...gimme 20 people that care and comment regularly over 50,000 faceless/ voiceless subs any day of the week. Take care. Rob.

Hey Rob - it is just a different type of metric - but even someone came in and said it was jealousy on my part - which is definitely isn't. There are people who do this for a small group of people (your fans) and that's it, and there are some who do it to reach the widest amount of people possible and build a following (something like an influencer, but not necessarily). For me, it has always been about the friendship and the people who interact, since I have very limited friends in real life - and I think what I was trying to say for part of this is, that's the way it is for a lot of people - so there is no leader, per se - we are all leaders of our own channel, and nobody is bigger or better than anyone else.

Hi Kris. New to your channel, but we share some common acquaintances. While I agree the "leader" talk is pure rubbish, this "way it used to be" conversation is not a new one, and probably won't ever go away. You are right that things have evolved, and will continue to do so in ways no one can likely predict 5-10 years from now. That said, the spirit of "community" is very much alive and exists from the newest collectors to the oldest, most opinionated trolls out there. As long as they aren't hurting anyone or being malicious towards others, may they enjoy their "community" as they see fit. It's not uncommon for these channels, upon reaching a particular amount of subscribers, to directly or indirectly form their own "community" where the primary common denominator was that person's channel in the first place (TMR, M45 are just a couple examples). Maybe that is what she was thinking of in terms of being a "leader"? Who knows. That said, not everyone has an encyclopedic recall of music, an artist, or album - just like not everyone should makes their thumbnails the same (I'm guilty of using - gasp - different facial expressions in mine...big deal). The fun is sharing whatever these pieces are making you feel, and sharing it (often) with people who are welcoming to that same enthusiasm, even when not exactly aligned with that taste of music. Now it looks like I've started a mini rant of my own - your fault, sir 😃
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 4 месяца назад
The one thing I have always said is the VC is as big or as small as you make it - it can be five people or it can be five hundred if you wanted it - but those connections are the real heart of it and you are doing yourself a disservice not participating like that. And some of the things I miss is not treating your channel like a channel - but just a platform to interact. Less of a structure, with "episodes" and more of, here is what I want to share and lets talk about it. Happened about 10 years ago where I noticed people not responding to comments. I respond to every single comment - people took the time to write to me, I'm doing that back. I get someone with huge numbers can't do that - but even when they were small they didn't do that. It's a mindset. Oh, and I love rants, and I think more people should not feel inhibited - they should express themselves, get it out, even if whatever they are talking about is only true in that moment, and that second. The other problem with the internet/social media is there is no sense of time - people change in a matter of seconds sometimes, but a post stays frozen. Thumbnails - I had to get my rant on that - a necessary evil - you have to attract someone's attention (we make these things so people watch), but there is only so much you can do on a small canvas. Headlines are also similar - there is a certain amount of leeway on what you can do, and no matter what, it is rarely creative or innovative. BUT, hopefully I didn't get in your head about it - or if I did and you laugh, even better :) Thanks so much for watching and stopping by to comment, I appreciate it!

Hey Kris, I ask myself a lot where I fit in these days since everything keeps evolving, growing, and changing. I certainly can't keep up with watching everyone like I used to and sadly it's been harder to record videos for a while now, even though I really want to and say "tonight is going to be the night to do it" almost every day. I still love the hobby though. It did make me laugh when I saw "leader of the vinyl community" in your video headline. I thought it had to be a joke and then you said someone actually called themselves a leader of the vc. Yeah, I can see how that got under your skin because I feel it too. I think what I've determined of who I watch and try to keep up with are who would I like to be friends with outside of YT. I do still follow a bunch of prog community channels but I don't particularly like a lot of their personalities so I guess they are the exceptions. So I'm meandering too as I don't think I have a clear thought other than I feel similar to you although I do feel there is a community or communities and they've just gotten bigger and even more cliquey than before. I wish I could've experienced those early days of the VC. It sounds lovely. Even when I started (March 2018), although I'm sure it was very different than the beginning, I really felt more part of a community than I feel now. We're trying to pick our dates of when we are coming down in June. I'll keep you posted as I would love to meet up again if the timing works for you.

Carm and I was just saying that - it is definitely the person we are attracted to on who we watch, otherwise we'd just read wikipedia. Who would we want to grab lunch with... I guess the overall issue is sort of what got JoJo Siwa in trouble recently - she said they should make a genre of music called "Gay Pop", and its like, know your history! So, in the same vain, anointing yourself a leader with no recognition or knowledge of the rest of the community smacks not of arrogance, but ignorance. Early days still had issues - it was just a little more eclectic - its how a Trish was able to thrive while today she would have been stamped out by negativity and "rules". Just give me a ring, I'll be here!

As per usual, I am in agreement with you. I do think a lot of the changes in the VC are due to the way RU-vid has changed. It's a different medium than it was 10 years ago. Some channels utilize what I view as "tricks" to garner a wider audience. It's short term gain at the expense of having a more engaged audience. I think the advent of shorts is big part of the problem. It introduces a type of video that requires no basic knowledge of music, nor any real opportunity to engage with people. It's wham, bam, thank you ma'am, and it's over. Nothing said, nothing learned. But there is also a little staleness in the "scene" as it were, in my humble opinion. Folks need to listen to an album from an era newer than the Carter administration. There are channels that go live for upwards of four hours. Four hours?! WTF could you possibly be talking about for that long, and how could I possibly stay awake for all that? Anyways, that's probably off topic and more a pet peeve of mine. The VC (to the extent it still exists as a community) does seem a little cliquey at times, too. I've always felt outside of any of the subgroups in the community, anyway.
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 4 месяца назад
Oh, I've lost VC friends giving my opinion on livestreams. For the most part, they are ego boosts to prove you have friends at least online when you don't have any in real life. YT in general was such a wonderful place (and still can be) for creativity, but out of nothing other than a metric (which can be ignored!) people settled into these tropes and methodologies that are homogeneous. Every thumbnail with the same damn font - same clickbait titles, same windup to say nothing except for the last few minutes - nobody cutting to the chase, just rambling forever until they get to the point. That's EVERY type of video (not just the VC) - and the same stupid like, comment, subscribe, give us a thumbs up, check out our instagram, join our patreon, hit us up on our discord... It's boring. And there are NO rules saying you have to do that, just like really there are no rules on how you need to live your live, but here we are. Luckily we do have a hundred different Vinyl Communities - mine is the friends I made here and the people I watch and watch me - it had a lot of overlap earlier, now it has become very specific. You've always been part of my VC, Dave :)

I FORGOT about that option! Follow-ups were so great... yet another nice thing removed for progress. Well Blake, times change, places change, but people don't change - we all still like to belong to a group and we are losing a nice group to a generic model that is kind of been happening on many platforms. A victim of its own success. One nteresting thing I find about videos where the original or early VC creators decry the loss of community...they always seem to mention that most of the original channels stopped doing videos 4/5 years ago..which does make me wonder if there is an element of rose tinted glasses at play..I mean how good could it have been? 😊 My gut feeling is people just come & go..get bored..run out of records to show...& this will remain until the stylus finally lifts..clicks back into place...and we’re all six feet under...with our kids wondering how to offload all our crappy albums! 😊

Probably rightfully so, because out of those 100 I have sent out, I probably haven't heard from 80% of those people in ten years. Been here long enough to know the average lifespan of a channel is 1 to 1.5 years, tops. A few make it past, but it gets less and less who have been here longer than three years. People don't tend to pace themselves - so they make a ton of content all at once, and then run out of things to talk about. Also, we've been around forever - at this point we saw almost all the stuff we like, we know what we need to hear and haven't yet (and don't want that to be homework), and anything else we don't care about probably, so what's left to watch? Some folks just can not handle attention properly, oh well. I have been entertained quite a bit seeing these, human behavior is just fascinating. I find I can not listen to the majority of Sports radio here in NYC, gearing to younger crowd and gambling. Then there is the age / lack of experience of the announcers on "how" and "what" to deliver. They lost the total concept of what the topic should be about and a few with egos. So somewhat related to this approach. Yup, my VC toleration has declined, and avoid now watching many which is sad. It's also a generational thing, I think - me being an old man at this point. We were never going to be instagram people. We were never going to do the same poses everyone else does on whatever platform. So, it shouldn't be surprise that the surface level of that social media would go into the ethic of another platform - flash and sizzle being important. I am familiar with the channel you are referring to. She makes great content. Although it doesn’t interest me that much I get why people like it.. I think most VC RU-vidrs are “influencers” intentionally or not to some degree. No matter how many subs they have. Then there are channels that clearly have an angle. Ya know, the hyper editing, click bait title types. I try to steer clear of that nonsense. I still enjoy watching lots of different VC channels that interest me and I’m always learning something new. but, when people start to capitalize on the popularity of vinyl and subs or profit become more important than content It get’s kind of ridiculous. Good to see ya Kris. ✌️

Well, of course I am jaded to some degree, having watching a gajillion videos over the years, but the one thing Carm said pretty much resonates with me - I'm watching for the person and how they present the stuff as it relates to them - and if I would like to hang out with that person - otherwise its just another record review video. She is fantastic and does a great job - but I guess my issue is there is no real VC as we knew it - it really is just a hashtag, and you can't be a leader of a hashtag. #sexyfarmers

People ruin everything. 😁It's funny, I've recently gotten into golf and I notice the same things happening in that space. Once it's noticed that the content can be a gateway to an influencer, the production goes way up, the hosts get hotter and the outfits tighter, but we lose something in that process. I'm guilty of telling people to hit the like button, because I know it helps to recommend the channel. I guess it happened a few weeks ago and I had way more views than normal. It bit me. The majority of the comments were negative and just plain shitty. I think I'm happy where I'm at. Let's be honest, the only reason I'm still here is because there is no more public access stations. 😂 We should start a VC Civil War. If we just knew someone with horses...

A lot of people figured it out pretty quick - and I tried to go back to get a time stamp, but sometimes she has videos pulled for either personal reasons or copywrite reasons, so I couldn't find the exact video for people - so there is nothing to compare what I got from the statement and for people to see if I was off-base or was it tongue-in-cheek, or actually bigger than I made it. Jeff - Oh how I LOVED Jeff. Rob was probably the guy who inspired me to start making videos (from his first video, where he was so exuberant). The 90s and 00s were were it was at. It was cheaper for me to get a new record than a CD at one point - I think my Sparks Hello Young Lovers was $13 shipped opposed to the CD which was $18 shipped! At this point, its too much money and the stuff I want is too obscure to even find, so I just digitally hunt - but I'm sure it will and ebb and flow again.

Huh? A new leader? But I didn't cast my vote 😢 where's the democracy gone 😅 50,000 zombies👻grrrrrrrrr....... The Tubes? Or as Americans say 'tooooobs' chewbs as in Tuesday (today) over here. We have the 'tube' under London. I think you summed it up brilliantly in under ten minutes Kris. I watch less now due to circumstances but we did meet up at a record fair here about a dozen of us in UK but it's easier for us here as smaller community And less travel. What was great was three people that came don't even make videos but they fitted in very nicely. Even if they didn't 'fit' they'd be welcomed. The VC has/hasn't sold out. The debate continues. Once debate stops and opinions (especially about DSOTM) then we cease to be different. I think I see you are very philosophical person underneath which I like, I think I am too. We can't be in real-life because we'd not get anything done. Therefore we remain on the edges of society. Right I'll stop now before I sound like I know what I'm talking about 😊
@dixielandfarm

King? I didn't vote for you. Philosophical, perhaps - able to see nothing is as it appears and there is never black and white - that's just a Gen X trademark - loving dorky things and still making fun of dorky things. Angry at the system and never wanting to change it because we know the workarounds enough to survive - just dissolutioned enough to know there is no stopping anything, but just optimistic enough to almost care about something. The only thing I am one of the leaders of is our farm - and even that I have to bend to the clients and customers to some degree. So, in summation - I'm a loser, baby.

Going to be honest sir, this is incredibly patronizing of you. I respect your opinion and like some of your videos but most of it is filler vlog stuff. Some of your most helpful videos are 11 years old and even then feel a bit dated. It doesn’t matter who started what and where they were when that came out. Who cares man. You didn’t evolve with the tech, get over it. There’s a lot of self proclaimed artists out there and it seems like you just picked on a 24 year old because you couldn’t do what she did and you were in the right mood to be bothered by her otherwise meaningless words. Dude don’t get me wrong I like your videos! Sometimes I’ll watch your vlogs but your style is mostly out of touch. You’re the adorable one who holds on to this virtue of being old and entitled. Don’t take it too personal.
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 4 месяца назад
She's great, she makes great content, and she deserves all the respect and subscribers and attention she has (and more). But, I'm here and make videos for different reasons. I worked professionally in television for many years, as camera and editor, along with production coordination. I have a BFA in film, and was trained to be a cinematographer. I left that for the farm - so I have the ability and knowledge to make those kind of videos, but not the desire - these are rattled off for me for fun as a diversion, a hobby, and a way to connect with some people - not everyone. What I miss is less of people trying to be influencers, getting people on to their patreon, or leaving a tip on a cash app - this isn't very prevalent in the vinyl community, as its small potatoes, but you see it everywhere else. I still don't understand people donating hundreds of dollars to watch a dude play a video game, but that proves I'm out of touch. But, I AM allowed to be out of touch and express that. I think.

Yeah, those super slick channels with the fancy intro music and graphics are kind of annoying. Nothing wrong with them, but I feel they are doing it more for the notoriety and not necessarily the love of LPs. Teddy was really fun to watch, along with Robert Z, Blake with the "Blake" sleeves, And remember Ottavio up in Canada? Also Elovox was the guy (I think) who invented VCLT? BIzarro does some cool live streams now which I watch. Of course I always watch your vids Kris. Eddie.
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 4 месяца назад
Its creatively uncreative is my biggest beef. Thumbnails are a real weird thing - how much creativity CAN you have, but can it be creative if it is the same dumb face and font? BUT, they DO work - so what can you do? Ottavio was really my favorite - he could rant with the best of them, and I learned stuff, and loved his crotchetiness. Rob/Eolovox was probably my actual inspiration to start making videos, because his intro video was adorable in its earnestness. Oh, my videos are going in some weird directions lately, so I am glad you are holding on. I started thinking, why would I show stuff from the 90s, everyone knows this stuff, but now that stuff is THIRTY YEARS OLD - of course loads of people don't know it. So things I think everyone has, in reality, are probably obscure.
