Mostly music of a more outside nature...but something sweet as well, if you hang in there. CORRECTION: "The Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey's Grave" is a Butthole Surfers cover. (Thanks, Scott!)

Michael, the majority of the albums you showed are old favorites of mine, some formative sounds for me, in the 1980's. I saw Zorn play a solo set in Providence, a few years before he got famous with '' The Big Gundown'' album. Chadbourne played in Providence very often, my friends who were concert promoters loved him dearly. Yes, he played The Rake quite often, but I'd rather hear him play the damn banjo! Funny that he plays guitar and walkie-talkie on a Carla Bley album. Eugene makes money writing album reviews for the web-based, All Music Guide. Great attempt at trying to describe the sound of Derek Bailey, no one can describe it, not even Derek. Richie Havens, just like Judy Collins, could inhabit a song by someone else and truly and naturally make it their Own !

Eugene Chadbourne, another classic Michael! Sounds like a combo of Johnny Cash and Wall of Voodoo

Well that was a real trip Michael. I loved the sound samples. I can’t say it convinced me to buy the albums but it did give me a good feel for them. Amazing what you find and look for Michael. Very interesting. At least I knew who Richie Havens was. Thank god

I'm just sorry I never got to see Richie Havens live. I somehow got it into my head that I wanted to see him in concert, probably after one of the Woodstock anniversaries, so I checked out his schedule and it turned out I had just missed his tour. And then the next thing I knew he passed away. Thanks for watching!

Very cool to see a Chadbourne album showed. Not heard that one. He’s touring the U.K. next month so hoping to see him again. Particularly liked his work with Shockabilly. Jamaaladeen too..wow! That Kismet track is my favourite off that. Show Stopper & Renaissance Man are such classic albums by him too.

Ed Topo, I know you are a fan of Chadbourne, as soon as Michael showed the album, I thought of you. Enjoy the live show, if you can make it happen!

@@michaelvalentini4869Hi Michael, yes a big fan of his. He’s recently made a painting exhibit/book on Messiaen’s birds! Looks really good. Bireli Lagrene is also playing a London gig soon so it might be a toss up between the 2 shows!

Wow Michael, you've gone way beyond my limit with those early selections! I did however like the needle drops of the Jamaaladeen Tacuma and Sonny Sharrock. I'm missing Green from my Hillage collection - as you said not up there with his earlier stuff but still very good. Only having Dolmen Music by Monk I probably need to get more by her into the collection. Hope you're fully recovered soon... take care... Pete

Wow Michael that had to be a thrill to run into a collection like that at your local. It’s always the best that way. I dig that Sonny Sharrock and would love to find that Braxton as I collect the Sound Aspects label. Funny the last convention here in Charlotte I ran into a dealer with a box full of Chadbourne LPs. I grabbed just the album with Frank Lowe Don’t Punk Out. The dealer told me he had known Eugene and got them directly from him. If I recall I paid under 10 bucks. I could not get out of there fast enough . Lol.

@@michaelpdawson Zorn doesn't get nearly the attention he and his cohorts deserve. Been with him myself since the mid-80s and have found that there is a lot of misconceptions about his work. They don't know what they are missing.

Michael were you hip to the OTB LP previously, or was that a more or less blind buy? Regardless, finding these LPs in your local Kenny Loggins shop must have been a shock. Was the shop owner rattled by this collection as it came in, I wonder? The Sharrock 'My Song' sounds like Crimson
@michaelpdawson
@michaelpdawson 2 месяца назад
I did not know the OTB album, but I'm sure I would have grabbed it even if it didn't have John Zorn's name on it. As I was grabbing all this stuff up from the New Arrivals bin, the store owner actually came over and without a word handed the Spy Vs. Spy album to me!

Regarding the first record, it's a little upsetting to hear you use the phrase "take a moment to drink in this cover" when there is a toilet on the cover! This is a very unique collection of records.
