Rammstein - Waidmanns Heil (React/Review) 

The song translates as Hunter's Greeting/Hail. It's a traditional greeting that German hunters would give each other before they went off on the hunt. The song can be taken as literal about the thrill of the hunt and obsession with hunting animals but the song can also have a deeper meaning of a man hunting women for pleasure, as there's a lot of metaphors and symbolism in the lyrics that Till always uses in songs

LIFAD tour was insane at this time. Many new pyrotechnics was used there. Saw it live in Prague 2009 when i was just 9 years old and it was amazing. My favorite was Wiener Blut with such dark atmosphere and laser dolls blowing up in the end. 😀

Till is a hunter. Back in the DDR (GDR) he collected roadkill by roads and train tracks to deal with foodshortage. He stole chicken from a farm occasionally with cohorts who later formed Rammstein with him. They stole a living calf once, shoved it into their rickety car, which he butchered himself in Richard and his one-bedroom apartment later. Now he's a certified hunter who hunts for food not pleasure. At the very least his prey gets eaten or used up completely, he never hunts for trophys. The song is just about a hunter who focuses on the kill in particular, while still following hunting moral. In the beginning the hunter waits until he can give 'Blattschuss' which is widely considered the fastest and most peaceful kill. Most hunters I know, and Till too probably judging by what he said in interviews before, focus less on the thrill of the kill the way the one in this song does, and more on the peace of the forest & doing their job (managing wildlife population, getting food etc.)

Till pretty much writes all the lyrics. There is a bit of back and forth for making the lyrics fit lyrically into the music or suggestions from other members , but the heavy lifting is essentially Till. Think he has about 4 books of poetry now aswell, some even later adapted into songs, like Morgenstern . So he's got lots of ideas

He's Till freakin' Lindemann,, would you call him out for wearing a hair net lol. They have slower songs like Ohne Dich, and faster more explosive offerings like this. I love this band, as an English speaker I can barely understand a word. But the music always gets me, it's an international language of its own I guess :-)

The phrase "Waidmanns Heil" is centuries old and still till today the traditional greeting phrase amongst "huntsmen"...literally it means "Huntsman´s hail" in the sense of giving to the met huntsman so to say a "blessing wish" for him having a good hunt. The traditional replied answer to that phrase would be then "Waidmanns Dank" = literally "huntsman´s thanks" (for wishing me a good hunt.) Funny the song even started with the tones of hunting horns basically saying "Let´s start the hunt"

That´s the video track from the concert at Madison Square Garden in 2010, but not the actual audio track, due to copyright reasons I guess. And the hairnet is a leftover piece from his appearance in the opening number "Rammlied".

Till is a professional, he would never shoot a gun into the audience, he would shoot a flamethrower and fireballs.

I love the R+ reacts. Another amazing NDH (industrial metal) band with some good music videos is Eisbrecher. 2 good videos by them that show corruption in our society are 'Was Ist Heir Los' and 'Verrückt' They're kickin' ass songs too.

Basically it is about a hunter who goes hunting. It is also described in the hunter's language deer / stag shortly before being shot. Oh, many typical words in Hunter-Chargon: - "Spiegel"/Mirror: rear part of the deer / stag. - "Blattschuss"/Closing the leaf: Direct hit to the heart. - "Schmaltier": (in deer) female animal in the second year of life that has not yet been mated - " hohen Ried": "high reed": soil-wet locations / lawns

Weidmanns Heil is like a hunters greeting, wishing the other a good hunt. Petry Heil is the same thing but for fishermen.

I think as an english speaking couple it's hard to understand the thrue meaning of the song. I strongly recommend you to google Till's poem "Sautod", translate it to english and try to slip into the role of a killer who is on the hunt for a woman to rape and then kill her. Thats it. Yes, that's right. Brutal and violent. Lindemann's "Fish on" is the equivalent to Rammstein's "Waidmanns Heil". Both use technical terms (fisherman and hunter) to describe an act of violence. Brilliant!

This is a really badly mixed clip. This is not the final mix that ended up on the live DVD. This leaked online a few years before the DVD was released. That's why the audio ist scheiße.
