That's good. Like I said, I wasn't saying they shouldn't have. I'm just curious about how someone decides they want to, if that makes sense. It is admirable that they acknowledged her story and asked her permission. I never assumed they'd take a story just to make a song out of it like so many other people have done. I appreciate the recommendation, man. It was different and moved me, for sure.
@@NORSEVIKING I absolutly understand your reaction to this. Rammstein did quite a lot of songs that deal with the dark side of humanity. Till always portrays the perpetrator in the most sinister way. And I think it‘s important to show these things as well instead of tabooing them. Nevertheless there are also some really funny videos. If you still take a recommendation from me, „Keine Lust“ would be a great one. It‘s on educatedmarine‘s channel with english lyrics as well.
@@acidgravy1 Of course I'll take a recommendation from you. I appreciate you, dude. If my reaction came off negative, it was to the story and the man it was about. Everything else is great.
"WELCOME TO REALITY" I am glad that there are bands like Rammstein, who take up such topics. As soon as something happens, it is reality and must not be concealed.
Rammstein wants to evoke exactly these feelings and reactions that you have shown here in the video. Disgust, revulsion and hatred towards the monster Fritzl. Such tragic stories must not be forgotten. Probably for this reason Fritzl's daughter has also agreed to process her story in a song.
I remember an interview with Till where he said something along the lines that people thought he was screwed up when in fact all he does is hold up a mirror to a screwed up world. It's a valid point, the world is screwed up and people do screwed up things and we should acknowledge them and talk about them Till does it in the way he does things best, by writing lyrics to songs and writing poetry. Knowing the back story and being the same age as Elizabeth and being a mother makes Wiener Blut a hard listen, there's no doubt about that. There's nothing frivolous about the song though, it doesn't play down the seriousness and revolting nature of the subject matter. Till's vocals and the music are commanding, his persona is both mesmerising and revolting-you believe every word he sings. He coaxes and cajoles and then bang, the truth is told to his victims. The line that gets to me the most is "Welcome to reality" because it fully portrays the hopelessness of Elizabeth's situation. Thankfully. she managed to find physical freedom along with her children and Fritzel is incarcerated until the day he dies. Powerful and disturbing but wholly Rammstein.
when these kinds of messages are in the news, we spend at most 5 minutes on it, then the next headliner. Rammstein makes sure we don't forget. it's more than music
I can only imagine how you feel as a father, reading and listening to this. Over here in Germany this was in the news at least for weeks if not months. The fact that it's hard to like this performance shows even more that Till has a talent to portrait this terrible situation. That poor girl has been held captive for "24 years". That's insane! This girl shows mental strength on a whole new level, continuing her life.
I deeply appreciate the visceral horror the song conveys so that the eternity of suffering of Fritzl's victims doesn't get forgotten. The song doesn't cheapen it, but demands we face it.
I fully understand how you feel about this song. It's the same for me. I live in The Netherlands which is next to Germany, so the awful story was in our newspapers every day. I'll never forget it. I still can't listen to this song without seeing those headliners popping up in my mind and the interviews with the daughter at a later state. That man was a monster.
Rammstein points fingers into the wound, we hav some sick people in our society. They made also to great songs about the catholic church in regard to child abuse ( Hallejulia and also Zeig dich ) , even the content of some songs are sad and disturbing we as a society should keep our eyes open. What is most disturbing, the catholic church covers up the evil happening / caused by some priests.......they never get punished with prison time ( at least in Europe )...........
Not in the USA either. It's disgusting that they just juggle those pedophiles from parish to parish...no accountability. But there are even worse religions... IMO, they are all just dangerous and stifling. All about control, mostly over women...but the worst control is over free thought.
This story is the life of this children, they can't forget and the world shouldn't forget, it must not be repeated! Rammstein prevent with this song that this terrible and true story will forget soon.
It’s hard to enjoy the song in the real sense of if, but the performance is amazing. You can really hear the hate in Till’s voice. Also if you notice there’s no theatrics or pyrotechnics, the crowd is also very quiet during the whole performance.
Also you should know that 'Wiener Blut' (Viennese Blood) is a waltz by Johann Strauss composed for the Vienna wedding of the century between the Crown Price of Austria and a Bavarian Princess. Very romantic, and in the intro you hear it in the background.
Lindemann writes lyrics about everything that moves him. Just like he wrote the song "mein Teil" about the Cannibals from Rothenburg. He said in an interview that he writes about love in every form, even the most perverse.
See it from this point of view: A former painter, how maybe survived the WW2 and saw the horror of the holocaust, he might express his expierience or his feelings in his paintings. As an artist, Rammstein is making songs of things that really happend. You don't need to like or headbang to the song, but you should understand the meaning and the background of the song.
i asked myself also very often, why Rammstein in many songs pointing out the ugly side humans can behave? Maybe that those things are not to be forgotten, and they dont want to sing about subjects like everyone else. The music fits perfect to the content
As a father of a daughter if you refused to listen to this song I'd have understood where you were coming from. When I heard the studio version in the album "Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da" I was legit traumatised and I credit Till and Rammstein for giving me a glimpse of the horror Elisabeth had to endure from her father. Rammstein never shy away from uncomfortable songs and has sung prior about Armin Meiwes in Mein Teil and ofcourse songs like Puppe and Hallomann touch the base around sexual assault which if you havent reacted to then you should if you have the strength. Although I would admit personally to me Puppe and Hallmann didnt scare me narly as much. Probably has to do with me maturing a lot over the years when I was in my early adult years when Wiener Blut came out.
to understand this song you need to have a austrian or german mindset. if you dont talk about or remind about dark history it gets forgotten and that should never happen.
"Wiener Blut" (Viennese Blood) is originally the title of a waltz by Johann Strauss (about 1890s), which stands for dance and exuberant joy in life and freedom. He wanted to use it to describe the Viennese soul, and to this day it is a frequently performed and popular piece, especially in Vienna. The fact that Rammstein took over this title is typical of their preference for using wit and ambiguity to point out the drastic. Amstetten, where this terrible story took place, is in Austria, of which Vienna (Wien) is the capital.
I could literally feel your anger and shared it. It's just very very hard to bear and words can't describe what I would have done with Fritzl, also for years! But I share the opinion of many here; they transport this horrible story into the world and thus reach many. If it can make people more aware and thus prevent or stop such atrocities (even just a few) then the song has more than a right to be there. Instrumentally one of the heaviest of the band. You can literally feel the anger and helplessness in it. Also in Till's performance and voice. I think your reaction was good and "appropriate" to the topic. Rammstein likes to hold up a mirror to society. And it's terrible what you get to see sometimes....
You may have noticed they didn't have any direct crowd shots. From what i could see of the crowd when they did wide shots of the stage, no one was jumping for joy or partying.
You've had some great conversation here with many folks, and all I want to say is how much I adore that you are wearing a necklace that says "You are the best dad." I really appreciate that touch, and the great things you had to say about your own daughter during this reaction. :)
You did a good job to check the background of this song.👍 Not everyone does it. I understand this song that Rammstein faces us with dark reality. Like Til sings "Willkommen in der Wirklichkeit" / welcome to reality". You can discover it in many songs from Rammstein. It can be hard to swallow. That's make the band so ingenious in my opinion because you start to think about things. When you start to think then I would call it a form of art. And art can be controversial sometimes.
It's better to know than be ignorant.....these children exists and they are next to us. so I want to know......reality is always bad and cruel. The band is amazing and Till sung it with respect to the victim.
Yeah, this is a tough one. Like NORSE, as a dad, I can't imagine creating a song like this, for obvious reasons. But as ARTISTS, for Rammstein/Til to embody such a horrific monster requires a unusual kind of courage. It's kinda to define, but I think it's technically a form of "SATIRE". They're certainly not glorifying or celebrating the abuser. And they're basically using ART to acknowledge and increase awareness that this kind of abuse exists...
This is the style of Rammstein. They sing songs about taboos and using provocation. With this song Rammstein will show us there dismay. Everyone knows taboos but no one wants talk about it. Rammstein stein do that. Its very hard for uns to feel it. But the anger we feel ist her anger.
As a german i can tell you, that most, not all, of their songs are controversal or disturbing. And there is always for everyone this single song, which is too much.
Short history, Josef lured his daughter into the basement and locked her up. He filed police reports saying his daughter had run away. He purposely got her pregnant and would occasionally take a newborn and raise it with his wife. He would tell his wife that the daughter had contacted him and left her baby with him but ran away again. Eventually one of the basement children became sick and police got suspicious and made Josef bring his daughter to the hospital where the police finally got the story. All the victims were given new identities and counseling and financial support.
That was hard to hear back than in the news! I still remember this case! How one can do such horrible things! Amstetten is not really far away from Vienna! Not so many people living there! Co-Workers of mine back then lived in Amstetten and where shocked, because they said "at one point or another, we have talked to him, saw him at the Supermarket... but would never have guessed!!!! But we have to be honest with us! This was one case of many, many, many (x1000) others in the world, that were not brought to light! We have absolutly no idea of how many such cases are in the whole world, we have absolutly no knowlege of! This guy lived 24 years in the same town... while keeping his daughter hostage, getting her pregnand and her giving birth to 7 (more actually) kids!!! That is something I don't want to actually know, how often that happens, or is still going on around us!! That's just sooo sick, so not right,....
You said it your self and called them artists. Art should make people also feel uncomfortable and encourage them to think about things and don't let all things go by and forgotten. It is very important that there are still artists like Rammstein who make people remember that there are horrible things in mankind who shouldn't be if we call us intelligent and empathetic. Most people look only the other way and the world is ok again but that doesn't fix anything.
Rammstein has many songs with these dark themes. Rammstein (Plane crash) Tier (Abuse) Spieluhr (Abuse) Stein um Stein ( Du riechst so gut (Murder) Donaukinder ((Environmental Crime)) Mein Teil (Cannibalism) Hallomann (Child abuse and murder)
Also: Spiel mit mir (incest) / Liese (murder) / Puppe (murder and revenge) / Heirate mich (necrofilia) / Ich will and Angst (Mind control) / Hilf mir (suicide) / Spring (Social pressure)... . But Rammstein also has a fun side (Pussy, Keine lust, Dicke Titten, ...) and an emotional side (Seemann / Ohne dich / Nebel / Zeit / ...). So many different vibes from this great band.
Rammstein talked to the young lady to make sure she was ok with them releasing the song. IMO I don't agree with some that say the MSG performance is better..yes it's cool and it's got some exploding dolls which of course tie in with the terrible story, but the performance in MSG was back in 2010. Notice how the performance has changed? (I believe they either got a call from the victim or maybe someone talking on behalf of the young lady that she didn't like the dolls or explosions? (That's what I think) In this performance there are no cameras scanning the audience, no crazy antics or goofing off, no pyro. Everyone is concentrated on the music, the song, the performance. Till Lindemann is an awesome singer and an excellent actor you can just feel the anger in his voice he literally while performing becomes the person he's singing about. I read where he said he likes to get inside the minds of these sick people and to understand them and why they did whatever they did so in essence he becomes that person. That is why he is so good at what he does..Till Lindemann - Rammstein are the total package excellent strong and beautiful vocals, great commanding presence, awesome stage design, lighting and pyro, the best guitar riffs and the most talented musicians in the world, They do things others have never done, would even dare to do or even thought of doing.
"why do artists make songs about this" because people need to be made aware of the terrors in the world. Whether it's movies, music, pictures, ect. Shit like that happens everyday all over the world
about what you said , that you don't know why certain artists make songs about this things, and the answer is pretty simple , it's to aknowlege that this things hapen , we all want to live i a world of piece and to care of one another, but sadly this things hapen on a daily bassis.... and the magority don't even realise it..... it's a fucked up world we live in....
Fritzl pretended Elisabeth had run away to join a cult/sect to his wife, when he wanted to raise a child he just told Rosemarie, Elizabeth or someone who knew her, had left the baby with a note at the door.
"I am with you and hold you in the darkness" is a prime example of the double meanings Till's constantly using. He really mastered that kinda stuff. Did you check the background story of "Mein Teil"?
@@NORSEVIKING Can't wait to see your reaction. It's very heavy stuff. For me it became a lot heavier after I saw an interview with the man Till is embodying, because I had false expections about his persona. He is a very kind and rational/intelligent man. And he said he wouldn't recommend to anybody with the same fantasies to do the same, because the fantasy won't become reality. Everything became sad instead of enjoyable. Over the years his house became a tourist attraction for punks without any kind of respect which competely ruined it. Everything I saw about this case is just sad. There are some documentaries in english on RU-vid about Armin Meiwes.
Rammstein show society the mirror Look here, this is you Look closely this is how you look with every topic and ugly problem that is swept under the carpet elsewhere they drag it into the light In the case of crimes, mostly in the ego form of the perpetrator so that it is even more cruel and direct for the audience.
"willkommen in der wirklichkeit" [welcome to reality] is such a powerful & important line because for me, it gives a side note that they do "appreciate" (?) how fucked up all of what happened to that young woman was/is. it is a little side note from the real people behind the band, not from the "stage characters" for me, if that makes any sense.
You are not supported to jamnto this. You are supposed to feel revulsion. Listen to the pain, frustration and hatred in Till's voice. He is taking you on a tour of ultimate evil and be cleansed of it.
It's hard as fuck, yes it is, but unfortunately it is also reality. There are so many bands that sing about the sweet life or other cheesy nonsense, we've had enough of them, they lie to us about the beautiful life and we take refuge in this warm, beautiful embrace. 99.99% of all films have a happy ending, people try not to show bad things so as not to spoil the children. Maybe there needs to be more bands or artists like Rammstein who tell the truth and draw attention to injustices. Unfortunately, it is still the case that one in five children worldwide is abused. How many children do you know personally? yes, I mean you, who is reading this right now. think about it.
There are soo many Rammstein Songs with cruel lyriks and double Meanings . The Non German Poeple think yeah great song and Show , sounds like a fun Song . Look for Subs like this , he makes a great job for the Translation
When they performed this song during their LIFAD stadium tour, they had a bunch of baby dolls (hanging from the roof of the stage) that exploded throughout the song. The show was a little stripped down I guess for the festival cycle. I was at this Wacken show and it was great nonetheless!
Well, I did discover this song for the first time by watching their "Rammstein in Amerika" concert. Let me tell you, you are lucky they stopped using those creepy dolls...
Rammstein made songs about nazism, about consumerism, about destroying other culture...and they always sing those things takingthe part of the "monster". I think they do that because it's easier for the listener to realize what's wrong. I think your reaction was EXACTLY what they wanted.
When I saw this concert back in 2010. When this song started they had hanging baby dolls with laser sights on them that exploded during the keyboard/guitar breakdown
It's already in the name Rammstein. They called themselves after the Ramstein Flugschau accident and the song Rammstein is about that. Mein Teil is about the Cannibal of Rothenburg.
i recommend you check out "Spieluhr" as well, it has a similar subject matter but protraied a lot more abstract so its harder to catch and easier to just jam to the music
Probably a real event enhances the impression of a artwork For example, those songs that are now being played by young soldiers, defenders of Ukraine .. Behind every note is the energy of resistance and heroism. Oh Jesus But in general, I think this is a Rammstein technique. Make you enjoy a song that sings about vices. make you accept them
Hey NURSE, I just deleted my first thoughts because you are in use of your brain, thank you! I didnt know that song from Rammstein, but I know this band is droping songvideos, that really have to think about! The text, the video, the theme, thats a fact! Your react calms me down, that normal people still are by my side! Best wishes to you and your family!!!
That's awful. I'm pretty outspoken about father's rights and co-parenting. So, when stuff like that happens, it really sucks because relationships between good fathers and children get destroyed all too often within the family court system.
Don't feel sorry for your reaction because that is hard to take If you know the story behind. This is you at that moment and your face reflected that you don't feel comfortable at all.
Late to the video, but allow me to throw in my 2 cents worth. Many people like myself adult survivors of CSA find these types of songs (this and Daddy by Korn especially for me) extremely cathartic. I will warn you now if you felt this song was too much to deal with DO NOT listen to Daddy by Korn. Too often these sorts of subject matters are taboo to talk about which only help aid the monsters to get away with it. If it is such a taboo to talk about the topic in public how can you expect victims to come forward? You ask why these things can go on for so long un-noticed thats why nobody wants to discuss it. What i have always found weird is whenever I describe some of the events I experienced the listener seems way more traumatised than you would expect. I would end up feeling rather guilty for sharing my story and giving them trauma, but then I think to myself "um excuse me, but I was the one who went through it!!!"
This is one of the only bands on earth to tell the truth - it's not nice anytime, but it is the truth. ... music is not always phantasies. Hard to make a song about this, but truth hurts sometimes. Some monsters like this really exist - hard to coexist. (Jail is a good place for them - lifetime.)
Love your reaction to this topic, just human feelings. i was disgusted to the bones when I heared about it in the News... your are not human if you dont feel that way, imo
