The song describes the band's disaffection with fame and money. In "The making of Keine Lust" Lead guitarist (Richard Z. Kruspe) said: "You know, after all of these years we're full-up! Fame, success, money. We don't want to do anything anymore! Nothing! That's the idea in the song. We've returned to the starting point again. We just want to make music again. We don't want all the circus that goes with it anymore. So, we meet up again, one more time, for one more performance - just to make music together. The fact that we are fat is just symbolic for excess. It's really just about returning to the beginning."

It's a song about depression, laziness. When you have died internally. "I've been cold for a long time. I'm so cold" Dead people are cold. Emotionally cold. Inner death is described here.

You were right on the nose. From what I understand, the idea behind the video and song is that they've enjoyed their fame to excess. And now that they've done everything they have no desire to do anything else. They get together for one last jam session and see how big they've become. Flake (keyboard) was put in the power chair because his lack of desire is such that he doesn't even want to walk anymore.

For me it's about depression, I suffer from one and feel the lyrics on a whole other level. It's like he sings about me when I am down.

Flake (the keyboarder) is thin 'cause he's the real punk of the band. He has no desire to eat, walk or even play with the band anymore. It's just a little hint or joke. Because rumours say he hasn't agree still today to be a band member. Edit: And he is always left behind. Just Rammstein humour.

I’m way late, so I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’ll give it a go. After waiting THREE years, I finally got to see them live last week!!! I’m in Europe, and it was at a sold-out venue with 40.000 people - shit was wild, omg. They still sound super good live, and stage build was like something I’ve never ever seen - even in their other live videos. You could feel the bass tones almost rattle your skeleton, holy shit. And the show… the show was fucking epic; lots of fire (duh), stage smoke, black confetti blown from giant air cannons, and some kind of coal-black smoke. Not to mention a giant-ass tower with a built-in elevator, a huuge screen for videos/graphics, and an impressive light show. We also got treated to the fireworks trick they did in the Paris video of Du Hast! I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention a ton of stuff, like the suit with built-in lights they donned at one point, lol. I really really hope you get to see them some day - it’s definitely worth the money! :D

Hello. Great reaction, dear. The video is hilarious 😂. When the video was released the guys had paused appearing in public for some time. Usually you'd expect the band to come back fit and trained. Not them. They even showed up to an award show dressed like that. The silly faces of the audience was priceless 🤣. They accepted the award with a simple "thanks" and just walked of stage. The lyrics itself can be perceived as about depression or the mind-set of a punk. (They all originated from the punk scene.) And 'Flake' is the ultimate punk. He doesn't even feel taking part in dressing up in a fat suit. With love from Germany 😎 🤘

My was quite similar when I saw it for the first time, they're hillarious 😂 This song is very cool - both heavy with great riffs, and completely different once Flake's (pronounced "Flaa-kaeh") synth kicks in. And the visuals are just amazing - hostess giving oxygen to Till, or him requesting to pick up the mike since he's unable to reach for it 🤣 And at the end - just like in... aaah, not gonna say, you'll have to find out which video I'm writing about 😉 - they leave him behind once they're done... I just love when the song kicks in and Till does the "Till hammer" just with his head 😃It's so totally unexpected! You've done some Rammstein videos so far, but I see that the great one from Madison Square Garden is missing... Rammlied! I'm from Germany. I'm cold means emotionless. Cold as a corpse. As with depression, when you can't feel anything, we say someone is cold. That's why they have fat suits. It's about giving up on yourself, not wanting to do anything or trying to change it. They could change it, but they don't want to. Flake (keyboards) is the opposite, he would do anything they sing but he can't. In the end you can see that he can stand and he's very proud, but no one cares about him.

The feeling of indifference and disassociation. Think about it like that, he doesn't desire to do anything, not even touch himself not because he is fat, he became fat because he has no desire. It's not the cause, it's the effect. They have money, they have fame, experienced many things then they became cold and indifferent (both sexually, socially and even personally to the point they don't even care about their health or well being) So they became fat etc. Even in the music video, girls do everything for them, opening the doors, bringing the gear, bringing their medical equipment etc.

There is a "making of" video on YT where they describe the meaning of the video and song. They show them self as rich people who got everything in life... money, girls, cars etc. But they got out of shape (only Flake, the keyboarder, stayed lean, but he got ill in other ways) and meet to do one last performance for them self. But no matter what they do, they are bored of it. That´s what the lyrics say, for instance : " .... no desire to chew anything .... no desire to digest it" Says, even eating, as for most rich people eating is some part celebration (as i think) does not make them happy anymore. They got so bored by anything so life has nothing more to give them. And that´s why the lyrics in the bridge says " I am already cold". In german "i make you cold " can mean "i kill you" and "I am cold" means "i am cold in my feelings" (burned out, callous).

Ok with all the speculations about the meaning i want to present a very obese man's opinon. As I weigh more than 200kg this song is less hilarious for me than for most of you. (Not that it isn't funny anyways). Rammstein has always covered shocking topics and taboos that nobody is talking about. And they are very accurate when it comes to morbid adipositas as a disease and mental health issue. Although i want to criticise that the main sentence in this song is "Ich habe keine Lust" (I have no desire/motivation; I don't fell like..) when the most important sentence drops in the beginning: " Ich habe keine Lust mich nicht zu hassen" (I have no motivation not to hate myself). "Ich habe keine Lust" is a commonly used sentence to express lazyness and that's why i think using it as refrain is rather unfortunate, because it won't get people to think, that morbid obesity has nothing to do with lazyness anymore. The misconception of many "slim" healthy people about really obese people is that they are just lazy and enjoying life irresponsibly. But that is completely false, to be higly obese you need to really give up and hate yourself. No morbid obese is enjoying their life and that's what Rammstein transports in their verses. It is an auto-aggressive behavior just like cutting yourself. Self-hatred is a keypart in this. I never met another morbid obese person who did not give up on life and was suicidal or suicidal in the past. There is some kind of lack/ deep hole in their life that they try to fill (often love/ selfworth) with food. Till grabbing oxygen is a real thing. I have to struggle a lot with asthma and shortage of breath if i move. Masturbation although the desire is there becomes a real problem after a certain level of weight. Dreams and desires are still there and the wish to life a normal or successful life but the motivation is gone because you know/believe you can't do it. After a certain point you are getting used to suffering and even endure it (freezing to death) instead of moving because after all failed attempts to fight against obesity (another thing healty people who only know gaining a little belly and losing it again, don't understand, and who have no idea about leptin-intolerance insulin-intolerance and other medical issues). You are really great in giving up, and just wanting to die (anxiety disorder, social phobia, real depression -> not just episodes). The musicvideo presents lots of stuff highly obese people and especially men don't have: money, nice cars, nice fitting cloths (only ugly sweatpants and tshirts fit), beautiful women around them, agility to jump and perform like that. Which if you compare the video to the lyrics is the exact opposite. That is the funny but also motivating part which reactivates dreams and desires. "ich hätte Lust mit großen Tieren" (I would like to [hang ou/ deal] with the big anmals/ swimming with the big fishes/ hanging around with successful people, being succesful yourself) "hab keine Lust es zu probieren" (but i have no interest in trying it -> not believing in success anymore, giving up right from the start)

Because when you have no desire for anything it can end up in doing nothing but just eat and doing nothing else in life. The main point is not about being fat, but it also can be one consequence of having no desire at all in life. It even ends up so horrible, that he just lays there in the cold snow, doing nothing and freezing to death, even though he could get out of the snow, there is no desire left to make a change.

The only bit of clarification on the lyrics I'd give is the but about big animals. They're talking about celebrities and people at the top of the heap rather than talking about bestiality! Rammstein are 100% dedicated to their craft. Who else would put on the prosthetics, the fat suits, sing those lyrics and say to hell with what by one thinks? They're bloated with successes well as excess and they're bored with everything. Flake takes it that step further though and looks disgusted at the way the rest of the band now look. The feeling cold reference is that he feels dead inside, nothing interests of excites him any longer. Funny, but always with that darker edge.
