I remember in 2017 I use to listen to this while riding my bike in the pissing rain going to a job I hate dreaming about having a car , career and a girlfriend... the other day I put this on sat next to my girl with a car on the drive and a welding career along side me and realised how far I’ve come... god bless this song... PICK UP THE PIECES!!!💪❤️ Update 5 months later: I’m so blown away by all the people who liked this commented and commented back, I honestly can’t tell you how much it means to me... cheers guys and girls🙏❤️
Sounds like me, riding in my youth, blastin this great song, dreaming of where I wanted to be in life. Years later, lost all my friends from death, failed marraige with the mother of my children, lost my house, the job I liked being at, custody battle. Now, I'm about to be engaged to a girl that treats me great, won shared joint custody of both my Kids, just got a house with my new girl I'm soon to be married to, got my job back at the same place I loved as a nurse, still jammin this great song! Time to pick up the pieces......as well as inspired that you have as well my Bro! I so feel this post. Keep on picking up the pieces and live the best life you could ever imagine. Always keep one fist in the goal Brother!
Geez 2017 is like nothing ago to me. I was picking up the pieces, from long issues with health from 2006 to 2014, then I just dropped the pieces again.
I was very fortunate to be turned on to the Ramones at a very young age, I Have always loved them for who and what they are, with that said, all my children have been raised with all this music, not only the Ramones, but many punk bands throughout the years..... the other day my 18yo daughter heard this song and it made her stop what she was doing to tune into the song, she told me, "dad i heard that one Ramones song, and it instantly made me think of you and when i was a little kid...." Made me Cry a little cause i'm now passing the torch with my children as they get older....never forget the power of music people, no words can express how i feel.....i just know im happy i shared all this amazing music with my children! Punks Not Dead.
I have three grown daughters that were raised on this stuff. My daughter in 3rd grade wore a Ramones hoodie and black sabbath chuck Taylor sneakers. She's my concert bud now, Alice Cooper and Rob zombie shows are mandatory attendance. But it was embarrassing when they were little and they took rock and rolll high-school everywhere and watched it like the wizard of oz😂. Running around grandma's Easter egg hunt yelling "gabba, gabba hey". Freaked out the normal kids😅
It’s from this era that I started to notice Joey’s voice becoming more baritone. I’d first seen them live in 1977 . Must have been to 40 Ramones gigs in all. I’m 57 now👍👍
an absolutely incredible song from one of the greatest bands ever. so many brilliant songs but this one really is unique, even for these legendary giants
This has always been my favorite Ramones tune. Listened to over and over as a teen and still love it. I was fortunate enough to see them live at the Agora Ballroom in West Hartford, CT in 1986. (It was the tour for this song's album -- Animal Boy.)
I cannot listen to this song without singing it out loud. My favorite song to drive to!!! One of my favorite Ramones tunes! You guys are sorely missed. Don't know how I would have gotten throughout the 80's without you R.I.P.
Just my humble opinion, but this is easily Joey’s greatest vocal performance. He just nails every note and puts everything in it. I even hear a potential source of influence where Julian Casablancas might have gotten his trademark drawl from.
Its cause he was really bothered of Reagan rejecting going to a concentration camp but went to a graveyard with nazi soldiers. The reason why this song has two names is because of Johnny. As a conservative, he disliked the song and made them change it to My brain is hanging upside down.
You've got to pick up the pieces You've got to pick up the pieces C'mon, sort your trash You better pull yourself back together Maybe you've got too much cash Better call, call the law When you gonna turn yourself in? Yeah You're a politician Don't become one of Hitler's children Bonzo goes to Bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy Pick up the pieces My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down Shouldn't wish you happiness, wish her the very best Fifty thousand dollar dress Shaking hands with your highness See through you like cellophane You watch the world complain, but you do it anyway Who am I, am I to say Bonzo goes to Bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy Pick up the pieces My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down If there's one thing that makes me sick It's when someone tries to hide behind politics I wish that time could go by fast Somehow they manage to make it last My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down C'mon, sort your trash You better pull yourself back together Maybe you've got too much cash Better call, call the law When you gonna turn yourself in? Yeah You're a politician Don't become one of Hitler's children Bonzo goes to Bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy Pick up the pieces My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down Shouldn't wish you happiness, wish her the very best Fifty thousand dollar dress Shaking hands with your highness See through you like cellophane You watch the world complain, but you do it anyway Who am I, am I to say Bonzo goes to Bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy Pick up the pieces My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down If there's one thing that makes me sick It's when someone tries to hide behind politics I wish that time could go by fast Somehow they manage to make it last My brain is hanging upside down I need something to slow me down

The Ramones are a permanent go to band if I want to listen to some of the best punk ever! One of the top bands I want to play at my funeral, not happening for quite a while I hope, either Blitzkrieg Bop or I don't wanna grow up! 😂🤘👍🙏
I remember when this tune came out in 1986... we obviously didn't have the internet back then, but it was pretty easy to figure out that "Bonzo" was referring to Reagan (if anyone knew anything about his movie career) and his disgraceful speech at Bitburg, Germany. This came out the year after I first met Joey and Johnny (carrying Dee Dee home on Broadway between 11th-10th streets)... just eight years later I'd be a pro photographer in the city living near Joey. Insane how life works out. Once while at Veselka, Joey told me Johnny didn't like the tune. No wonder fans (of this tune) never heard much about its origin from them until years later; Johnny and Sire quashed that from the get-go. I've been a Ramones fan for over four decades. This is definitely one of my fav tunes by them. BTW- I took the photos of Joey's Memorial shrine at CBGBs that were in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, etc. I was the only pro who took photos; my rep said, "Who's going to want these?" I told her to take them... I knew the Ramones were much more loved than anyone in magazines etc, ever imagined while they were all alive. It's a real shame they didn't get their due until after they all died (except Marky, who was not an original member). That was my last pro photo shoot before my spinal injury... Love to every true Ramones fan from back in the day... no one who wasn't there truly gets what their music did for rock n roll (created punk for one) during the prog and disco eras, respectively. Might sound stupid, but we took a lot of grief for wearing our Converse All-Stars and Chuck Taylor's 30 years before they were trendy. We didn't do it to be cool. We didn't think about it, really. It's just what we loved. To everyone else who gets happiness and joy from their music-- for people who discovered this tune two years after Joey's death, in School of Rock... From talking to Joey throughout the years, that's all he really wanted, was to make people happy. And no, he wasn't mad at Green Day, he told me in 1996 he was glad they were making money. The Ramones were light-years ahead of their time. Gabba Gabba HEY!
mejor que THE RAMONES NO HAY ! y si hay son copias que descansen en paz cada uno de ellos fueron lo mejor y dieron su alma al punk rock !!! THE RAMONES FOREVER
First time listing to the ramones, saw a t shirt with the bands name and simply thought what an awesome name, bet the music will rock, definitely not disappointed
Same! And I would like to know why it affects you like that. It really effects me the same. I have to think it is because there will never be another Ramones and feel lucky to have been around when they happened. I hope you got a chance to see them live.
Había escuchado una canción una vez hace un tiempo pero no sabía q tenían cientos de canciones más que son unos temazos aguante los Ramones loco muerte a la yuta
I am so glad that Izzy Stradlin listened to the Ramones and to the Rolling Stones. His music is so influenced by the Ramones sound, you can clearly hear it in the best Guns n' Roses songs and also on his solo stuff
