Pete Townshend was a big fan of the Punk rock genre, because it encapsulated all he stood for. And was deeply ashamed that he became one of those rock dinosaurs that punk rebelled at. But when meeting John Lydon and Paul Cook one evening, he was told that the Punks never saw him that way, quite the opposite, he was a hero in their eyes. I mean, songs about masturbation, ("Pictures of Lilly", "Squeeze box"), bullying and abuse ("Happy Jack") and completely trashing the stage with his guitar? - He was way more Punk rock, than the punk rockers themselves were. So, I find it no surprise that when Townshend got the call that the Ramones wanted to work with him, he eagerly agreed to it.
Keith Moon was a trip. I was at that concert when he took to many qualoods and passed out at the drum set and they got some guy in the audience to play and he was not bad but he was no Keith moon.

I just bought the Weird Tales of the Ramones box set, and it has the uncensored video. The “Substitute” dresses up in a gingerbread man costume, has a shoot out with the FBI and gets torched with a flame thrower 🔥😂 I’m guessing that was too violent for MTV at the time.

Pete Townsend helped with this song and did backup vocals. When I read that in Johnny's Commando I recalled the song and definitely picked up Pete Townsend's voice and it has slight Who tone about definitely noticed the influence
Pete Townshend wrote the song the song "Who are you?" after running into John Lydon and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols. Townshend, who completely understood what Punk-rock was about, apologized to them for having become a rock dinosaur. At which Lydon went "No not at all, we really love the 'Oo!" Townshend, apparently hadn't realized just how much he had to do with where Punk-rock came from. I'm pretty sure that the Ramones were the same. I can imagine how stoked they were when Townshend came in to record with them.

I had this album when I was 16, and I thought it was boring. Now that I appreciate Ramones progression from learning to play and writing great original songs that did not sound like the bubblegum they aspired to, to being manipulated by their label and writing great original songs that were poorly recorded, to being proficient at writing bubblegum when the public wanted punk, I realize that this is a great record.
You're out of your mind if you think this is anywhere near as good as The Who's original. The Sex Pistols version is much better too. This is one of the weaker songs off of Acid Eaters.
I remember seeing Joey in the Atomic Punk bar in the Village...he was always cool...and we never expected anything....was cool just being close....Thanks Ramones...glad I caught the end...

I LOOKED AT HIM , LIKE , WAITAMINNIT.....THAT'S LUX INTERIOR !!! His voice was a giveaway , too. They obviously put all these people they were fans , as well as friends of , in cameos. There's even a few I could'nt identify . but , I'm sure are celebrities.
That's right. There are some songs I would have thrown back , but , unlike most people , I still like the album. I met Marky a few years later, and he said it would have been better if Tommy had produced it.
I grew up watching this fever dream of a video and I had "Acid Eaters" on CD but only now I get that Lemmy is in it following the theme of "substitute" because I never understood why wasn't Pete Townshend, the real backing vocal, featured... I was a kid reading the CD booklet saying Townshend sang it, it never made any sense lol
CJ was great. Looked like he really wanted to be there and that brought a ton of energy to the band. On their farewell tour I was right in front of him in the front row the whole time at one other shows and it was awesome. Looked like he was having as good of a time as the audience.
of course we see him dude. did you see that he has sean yseult from white zombie on his arm? how about lux interior as the professor in the beginning of the clip? if you don't know who that is, this is a good time to learn!
