Hey Republicans, this is what a real politician looks like. Someone who actually knows what he's talking about and has political experience. Trump and the others are like petty children in comparison. "You're dumb." "No, you are. Wah."
+Steve27775 Don't you mean "hey politicians!"? The democrats are hardly any different. And you can say what you like about trump, but people are responding to him.
+Peter Houlihan You don't know what you're talking about. It's in the interest of the worst party to say "hey the other guys are just as bad as us". But it's far from true.
Mike B. And I don't believe in fairytales such as a "free market" or other 100% capitalist practices that have always failed us in the past and present.
For awhile now I've actually kinda liked Rand Paul. I will admit that I am a hardcore Democratic, but if I had to vote Republican Paul seems like the best option.
been supporting this guy since bush administration but too many ppl felt that Bush and Obama was better suited for presidency and now they feel Hilary and trump are better. lessons never learned. country will always be doomed until people wake up
+lionthieves As much as Rand Paul pretends to stand for personal liberty, he's anti-women's rights (e.g., against legal abortion, equal pay and affirmative action) as well as anti-LGBT rights. As a fiscal libertarian, he's also against worker's rights, minimum wages, universal healthcare, and public spending to maintain the crumbling infrastructure or improve the school system. Speaking of the school system, he's also against sex education. On top of that, he's a creationist, a climate change denier and an NRA shill, and if he's anything like his dad, he's also racist as hell. There is a reason Ron Paul received donations from white supremacist groups. The only sensible positions of these so-called libertarians is their professed anti-war and anti-surveillance stance (unless the surveillance involves women's wombs), along with being in favor of cannabis legalization in an attempt to attract the clueless stoner vote. In all other regards, they're hardcore Christian conservatives. The reason that this isn't always readily apparent is that Rand Paul, just like his dad, likes to hide his nutty right-wing opinions behind a pro-states rights smokescreen. LGBT rights and women's rights? Religion on the school curriculum? Let's let the states decide! Which of course means "let's allow the red states to time-travel back to the 1950s". If he were elected, this man might do more domestic damage than Trump.
+Strayed Wayfarer Rand Paul isn't against gay rights. But as far as gay marriage he says if the religious aspect of marriage says gays can't get married than he thinks its not the governments place to force a religion to accept gay marriage but he's for legal gay marriage. And he's not against women's rights he just wants to defund planned parenthood as a govt agency.
Bryan Malik Rand Paul doesn't just lie through his crooked teeth about Planned Parenthood in an attempt to defund it, he has also introduced the A Life at Conception Act in an attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade. Don't tell me that he's not against women's rights. As for marriage equality, Paul resorts to his usual weasely rhetoric. "I'm not against gay marriage, but others are and I'm all for their alleged right to deny rights to gays". Where is the difference?
+Aleksandr Motsjonov I am scared anybody on the GOP side might win, but he and Kasich appear to be the most sane. Given my choice, I am a Sanders supporter for sure :)
+Atreus as a sanders supporter you're essentially saying you're glad that nobody was held accountable for the 2008 crisis. You're also saying you'd vote for a man who most likely would die in office by natural causes.
+John Barron I thought spending created debt. So in that case the republicans and democrats are both at fault. Democrats spend on the domestic side and republicans spend on the foreign side. Neither wants to pay for what they spend. Vote for Rand and if he isn't the nominee vote libertarian.
+Bender Alley from what I've gathered, the Democrats want to tax the rich (which I'm all for) and use that money to create jobs fixing our shitty, shitty, infrastructure. This would actually be huge for our economy and would only help reduce the debt
+John Barron yes that had majority democrat support. In the house the vote was 263-171 (172 democrats supported it along with 91 republicans...63 dems voted against it along with 108 repubs) in the senate the vote was 74-25 (41 dems voted in favor along with 34 republicans...11 dems voted against it along with 14 repubs).
slashandbones13 same... I'm a liberal democrat all the way but I'd sure rest more easy if we had him instead of Trump. At least he's got a way better temperament and is more willing to work across the aisle.
Rand Paul talked for 13 hours straight on the senate floor trying to keep your right to privacy. Would Donald Trump, Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders do that?
How does he feel about those constitutional rights in today's environment? Specifically the 2nd amendment? No where near as intellectually consistent as Rand Paul....
I'm so glad that Rand is a good influence on DJT in matters of economic liberty. In areas that DJT is not providing personal liberties, Rand Paul is right on, and DJT needs to listen to him more on.
Rand Paul Sane ideas don't get you elected. Radical ideas do. You don't have to follow through with radical ideas, but you do have to promote them to win an election. Learn, rinse and repeat.
With over 40 parties in our country, I'd like to see more than a "3rd" party. From local government on up. The duopoly is not the best thing for our country in my opinion.
You need to give the man some credit. I'm a strong Bernie Sanders supporter, but this man at least has principles and his actions are based on logic (it's sad that that means a lot these days).
+cristi1990an are you also an atheist that worships "le dank maymays"? Do you own a fedora and/or tribbly? Is Dicky Dawkins your favballs? What rank are you on league bro!? Are you hardcore on 4chan? Did anonymous personally contact you to hack all the school cafeteria laptops? If so vote for Bernie Sanders! Because you're obviously an idealistic teenager with a misconception of macroeconomics. Sincerely, Have you seen chef?
+Tolvan Osc'a'dragil Chris Christee is so focused on a no fly zone over Syria when he should really be focused on establishing a no fry zone over his kitchen.
+Ludwig van Beethoven The only candidate worthy of any respect in this race, considering he's taking more negative heat for speaking his mind than anyone else in the race.
+Ludwig van Beethoven I wish he would get more attention than Trump. It's gotta be mighty embarrassing to be an old school Republican and contend with someone as frivolous as Trump.
+John Creasy Reach the non-voters! Sell the ideas! I'm German and even I could get some American friends interested in Paul by showing them what he was about. Before they were just, sort of, "FEELING the Bern"
+MrGhizmo I feel like Germans would especially like Rand over Bernie because of Bernie voting for the Freedom act (NSA spying) and Rand actually filibustered against NSA illegal bulk data collection. If what I've seen and read was correct you guys were really pissed when the Snowden leaks came out and you found of the U.S. was spying on Germany.
It's not my main issue but yes. there was a lot of outrage and you should think that the German media would cover a guy like Paul for his endeavor about that. Nothing. The mainstream German knows about Trump and Clinton and that Republican = racist warmongerer. Never mind that Rand is actually the most level-headed guy when it comes to foreign policy. People don't actually like the man in the middle.
+John Creasy Rand isn't going to get it this cycle, but if we can all go to the voting stations and vote for a party other than Rep/Dem then I think that would pave a smoother path for him next election cycle. The disenchanted need to voice their disdain for the establishment.
I was on the fence. I love Bernie Sanders but realize now he may be a bit too Socialist. I love Rand's minimal govt. stances. I will be voting for him in Iowa.
What? You weren't voting for Bernie at all were you? You made all that up. There is no on the fence. You either agree or disagree with something or someone. The middle is where nothing gets done, no progression. There is no "too socialist", you can't be too socialist because it's an idea that fights for the people, if you don't care about yourself or your wellbeing or the wellbeing of your family or others then who will? Who fucking cares if he's socialist? He wouldn't get any votes if he ran independent, because the media would shut him down, no light of day. If you were voting for Bernie you would understand his policies and how solid they are. That being said Rand Paul isn't bad, I like the guy, he's literally a decent human being compared to the rest of the GOP. Hopefully it comes down to these 2 guys, because they are actual candidates and not circus acts.
+DeezNuts also Bernie voted for the "Freedom" act. I feel like that should be a deal breaker. Especially when Rand has proved he's willing to filibuster to try and end illegal NSA spying.
Please help Rand Paul win Iowa! He needs more support! He can win and is close. He needs you! Republicans, Independents, Democrats unite for Rand Paul! He will bring the American people closer together and will help heal the great division this country has. Rand Paul 2016!
+112233jjooee I agree. Rand has this air of calm, rational, and logical cool-headedness, evokes a classical vision of what a great president has been or should be, whether they're Republican or Democrat. He actually looks, talks and thinks presidential.
When Colbert asked about Ron Paul I had a flashback to the good times when Ron Paul was running for president and he appeared on the Colbert Report and Daily Show where the revolution was running wild! The honesty of Ron Paul and his intellectual consistency was respected by many people on both sides of the political spectrum. However, the country chose to elect Obama again over a man who stood for peace and freedom. *Sigh I miss the Ron Paul revolution so much!
Rand is the only person I would consider voting for! Less government means less regulations that benefit large corporations and the separation of big business from our legislative process. This means small business will have the opportunity to grow! #STANDWITHRAND
I'm so delighted to see so many Paul supporters here. Rand is the only one on the right who want peace and prosperity and will fix the system. There is hope, we could still win this, we could surprise the world at Iowa and New Hampshire. #StandWithRand
A true conservative. A protector of what is American to all people. It's up to us in the polls to support this guy, what is taking everyone so long to do so? Is entertainment what you need to thrive in life to make the most out of it? Maybe it helps you get by, but there are so many substitutes to entertainment. There's only 1 President at a time, I think we need the best we can get to turn things around. Hand down, Rand Paul is the best contender we can possibly support. He speaks and acts on more things I'm in favor of than anyone else.
Rand is the only person in the republican running I've got any respect for. Would be fascinated to see him go up against Bernie, them both being anti-authoritarian compared to their competition
+Alex Joly in terms of right to left, yeah. But the political spectrum isn't a straight line, it's an axis. They're both anti-authoritarian (Bernie's more consistent in terms of his policies but hey)
+MegaFunnymonkey123 Bernie is trying to increase the scope of the government, so he isn't anti-authoritarian. But I see what you mean, they both have similar stances on social issues.
no, you confusing more government with a more controlling government, they're not the same thing. Social issues are decided by stances on how authoritarian the government is. That's why the political spectrum is an axis not a straight line
The only Republican I would vote for. Sadly, the reason I would vote for him is the same reason republicans don't like him. He's reasonable and willing to work with both sides to get things done.
If the average voter had any brains, they would have a presidential race between Rand Paul and Bernie Sanders. But instead we will get Trump vs Hillary.... Tells you a lot about the 'minds' of the average voter doesn't it ?
+Taylan Ertan The comments here don't suggest that Trump would win the primary. Comments here are 99%+ rooting for Rand Paul, except a few paid Trump trolls. Amazing how much billions of dollars can buy... an illusion.
RON PAUL 2012 , thank you Colbert for your impossible to find original sketch of soccer fields, football stadiums, and north Korean dancers all chanting "Ron Paul 2012!" , it got me to check out the campaign and become interested in reading and economics and the federal reserve! crazy shit! but powerful. No one but Ron Paul got people as interested in information. Thank you for bringing it up here and being human the whole interview.
Brian Newlin ive read several of Ron's influences (or so i think) like rothbard, mises. i haven't read anything by the man himself although i really should! i do have a signed tom woods book though.
Rand Paul absolutely has a chance! He's rising in the polls and his campaign ground game is very well organized and on point!! We haven't even had the primaries yet. He is the only candidate both democrat and republican voters can get behind and the only one who can beat SHillary's fake ass
***** I live in Kentucky. I wish Rand would come out and say he thinks Kentucky should go ahead and legalize... at least for medicinal uses because I could really be helped out with medical pot because of my incurable bladder condition.
I've seen him state several times that he would legalize medicinal maryj and as far as recreational use he rightfully thinks it should be left up to the states to decide and the Fed should have no say so
+JoeYourAverageBro he wants to end the war on drugs and let states decide whether to legalize pot or not. I have been a Rand Paul supporter for a long time. He wants to limit the federal government and defer the most things back to the state.
I asked you because if you labeled yourelf as a conservative I was about to drop some bad news on you lol. You would be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) at how many people label themselves with a word in which they're ignorant of the definition
I am quite strongly opposed to republican presidential candidates, but Rand Paul seems like one of the least terrible. He seems quite smart and a decent guy.
This is the best of what a interview can be. Had great demonstration of humor, serious international/domestic policy and how he is different and informed. Colbert was an excellent lead and working with Paul! Bring him back!
If everyone who said "I like Rand but he doesnt have a chance" would grow some principles and vote for him...he'd win in a land slide. Time for people to actually put their votes where their mouth is.
Libertarians are rational constitutionalists. I thank Ron Paul for bringing the party back. More ppl should listen to what we are trying to say, we want true liberty for everyone.
@5:45 That is the best answer to that question I have ever heard on a MSM/"top ten" program. This is why Libertarian Party is growing so quickly. Both parties are beholden to only the rich&powerful, irrevocably partisan and completely corrupt. We want liberty at home, liberty at the market place and, above all, adherence to the founding framework of our nation, The Constitution.
I'm not American and I was honestly under the impression that most if not all Republicans were radical and intolerant like Carson and Trump. Rand Paul just proved that assumption wrong.
appreciative that a pretty "liberal" network brings to a HUGE audience such an intriguing man from the "other side" & does so in same light hearted tone. USA!
Less government in our daily lives and fixing the economic problems this problem has. Start that by leaving the Middle East alone. Thats why this guy needs to be the President of this great nation.
He's my first pick and I voted for his dad in 2012. Why the hell is Christie higher than him in polls? Hillary would easily win the presidency over Christie.
Homster T Christie is gaining in the polls. I'd rather vote for Hillary over him. Since he's been governor he's created new campaign finance laws, banned coal and offshore drilling , appointed liberal judicial nominees, gun regulation, common core, tax hike on e-cigarettes and amnesty.
+Joseph Price Well you have to consider he is a licensed MD as well and what that would do to him. Yes all doctors have a oath to take to say yes we will serve any and all who come to us for help but the bottom line is that it's a business and not everyone knows how to do medical operations or else it would be just like getting your haircut.
Listen closely to this man. He really does have the most sensible, reasonable, accomplishable policy of any of the candidates. Don't tread on my liberties, Rand Paul.
Dear Americans, if you have to vote for a republican presedential candidate: please vote Rand Paul and not one of his counterparts. Thanks and Greetings from Germany!
The pot thing is a joke in Colbert's take on the second GOP debate, in which Rand Paul said a presidential candidate smoked pot in high school without naming names and then Jeb Bush came forward and admitted that it was him.
had a life changing stroke whe i was 12, didnt cry over 2000 life threatening seizures, 2 children, marriage... nothing makes me cry... I cried when Rand Paul stopped running
