I have developed a true understanding and deep interest in the whole family history of both sides of this famous feud, ever since the mini series was televised.. There used to be a small museum at Renfro Valley, Kentucky, run by a young married couple , one from each family....they gave me an even deeper understanding of both sides. I hate that it was moved, because I may never be able to actually get to go touring of the 2 state areas where it all started..thank YOU for your videos and insights.
Thanks. I've followed the feud for years but didn't know this house still existed. Devil Anse didn't lose any children in the feud but poor ole Randall lost several. I can see why he grew bitter. Thanks again! New Subscriber!
@@ironbutterfly6835the Hatfields used Cotton Top for a scape goat they figured the courts wouldn't covict him because he was (Simple) they called it back then mentally challenged I guess you'd call him today, possibly Autistic 😞 Sad if ya ask me the Hatfields killed him too 😢
Great video today. It's amazing that back in that time they would photograph the bodies in their coffin. I remember seeing in previous videos of Devil Anse and another. Looking forward your next adventure!
@@thehillbillyfiles My late husband's family are from Nicholas County, WV. I've been to some funerals of his Great Aunts and Uncles and older family members. They took pictures of them in their casket.
@@thehillbillyfiles Yup people still take pics nowadays of people in coffins. My father's cousin did and my close friends aunt died and people took pics of her.
My Mom’s family from Paducah, KY still photograph the bodies in the coffin. They are all in mid 70’s to 80’s and are dying off. I think that will die with them
Judging by the size of the new grave marker and the placement of the original markers, that iron fence sits on top of, not around, Randall McCoy's grave.
I just subscribed to your channel. I've always been a fan of the Hatfield McCoy feud. Always loved the history. RIP to all involved and who were murdered.
Recently found your channel and have watched many of your videos. Just subscribed. Ya'll are doing a great job. I know what you're doing, ain't that easy. It is amazing what and how ya'll find all the graves and markers. we have some of the same issues in central Texas with the old cemeteries , just rocks on a lot of them. It's just me, and my quirks, but I hate walking on a grave. Guess it goes back to preteen days, and going to some old family plots and old cemeteries. But just like you said. You have to be very careful walking on collapsed grave site. Had one collapse , didn't step in, but I was very careful after that. My grandmother laughed and asked what I'd do if I had fallen in, I just said nothing except lay there, cause I would've died right there. Thank you guys gor what ya'll do. It's a real shame that any of that had to happen. Just think of the lives ruined because of it. God bless you guys and have a blessed day.
I'm in Texas but my mom's family is in Floyd county KY. My uncle was telling me many yrs ago that the Hatfield, McCoy fued wasn't the only fued. There were at least 2 more
At least I will give old Randall McCoy credit, There a family story that floats around in Glasgow Kentucky, that the notorious Confederate bushwacker Harland Sanders and his brothers went and talked to Randall about him putting up bounties on Hatfield's but from what I understand Randall politely declined his offer, and what I understand from the family history Harlan was killed about a year later in a fight at a church called The Battle of Cherry springs, apparently two moonshine family,s decided to settle their differences after church services, resulting in at least four dead and several fatally wounded that died later on, another small chapter in the fusion wars around cave City and Glasgow Kentucky,
Haha, I may say stuff wrong ( Heather) I'm not from here, but Leo's family been here since they settled in Phelps through the Dotson's, long long time ago lol, he was born in the old Williamson hospital

I really like all your videos. There's Something about the Hatfield McCoy feud that fascinates me. I was looking for the video you mention about the very spot where the McCoy children hid the night the cabin was burned. Could you please help me out. Thank you very much.
Another enjoyable & interesting video. How did Randall get burned? I have been through West Virginia but haven't visited. Hopefully someday I will get there.
After watching the Movie with Cosner and all the research I fill the Hatfields were mostly at fault. Although the incident were the McCoy's stab his brother to death really gets under my skin
You two do a good job...I’m a ol Buchanan co. Va. hillbilly and can be in pike co. in a 15 minutes drive from where i live at ,close to Breaks Interstate Park, and have been through those parts of pikeville quite a few times...
Those men lived their entire lives like kings almost, here in America. In Europe during the entire life span of Randall McCoy and Hatfield, there were Kings, Kaisers, princes, and emperors, and other Royals and people with titles. I suppose that those European aristocrats wouldn't have thought very much about Hatfield or McCoy.
The father of 2 of my boys is a McCoy...he looked so much like Randall..they still got that nose ..lol And he and his brothers and half brothers were very tall
I’ve always wondered what Devil Anse & Randall McCoy would think about the History Channel movie/doc with Kevin Costner. As well as the other major players like Cap, Johnse, etc.
Ok because again the History Channel lied about it they had it where he was throwing family photos in the fireplace and caught himself on fire. Thanks for the facts.
When you talking about “down that way and it went that way” I have a hard time following your train of thought without you pointing it out….any way you can get your finger in the video and point to where your talking about? I think your telling such a great story…..we could use a few finger pointers….please??!!
I am a proud member of the McCoy family on my grandma's side. I was born and raised in the hills of Kentucky. I've been on both sides of the Tug many times. I think it's fair to say that The McCoy's lost more in that feud then the Hatfield's did. Devil got away with murder only God knows how many times. He took what he wanted without getting into any trouble. The only man brave enough or crazy enough to even try to catch him was Bad Frank. But Devil never paid for what he did in his lifetime. Randall on the other hand paid and then some. Devil got to pass away in his sleep while Randall burned to death. Devil could have stopped that feud at anytime. But he wanted more McCoy blood. I hope my kin have finally found peace.
yes dear, I'm from Pikeville, and yes they have all come to their senses and laugh about it now in most cases. They may not be CLOSE friends, but at least they finally stopped killing one another. and, YES, it started over a hog. and it went from there.. I must say that my little town is a great place to live, just like anywhere else, you gotta know where to go, and where NOT to go. Did you all ALSO know that the ONLY FBI agent convicted of murder was in Pikeville.? Look it up,,,there's so much more I could tell you that the photos can't explain,
My Mother's entire family is from Pike county and we're related to the McCoys and you're 100% right. Money and power puts you above the law unfortunately.
