Beautiful cemetery and it makes me smile to see the pyranees up in the hills doing his job ... Two of my favorite things . Pyranees and Cemetery... Keep up the good work
I'm so homesick for those beautiful West Virginia mountains moved to Florida 10 years ago from Boone County and I'm so ready to come home. Love ur videos keep up the great work. I'm related to the Hatfields
As Dorothy so eloquently put it. There's no place like home. My brother was my Mother's only Son and he was her favorite. He was a Momma's boy and we 4 sisters knew it but we didn't mind. We protected and fought for him because he was the only boy. He died 2 years ago of Lung Cancer. We miss him dearly but my Mom was there waiting for her baby boy so we take comfort in that.
I said the same thing, Dorinda. We sold our family house when Mommy died in 2019. The owner is a local doctor and he’s rented it for three years. My neighbor told me the young family has moved closer to Chapmanville and I told her I would move back home tomorrow if I could. I’ve lived and worked in NYC for many years but there is no place like home. I grew up at Omar in Logan County. ❤
So true. I've been on the move since I was 19 years old. I'm 55 now, and I miss the beautiful beaches of my home: San Diego, CA, but cannot afford the cost of living there 😢
So down to earth and not like a reporter. I commend you for your talents and hard work showing the rest of us that it's not always what you think and everybody has a personality, a real person inside that the tabloids like to leave out or exaggerate. Great site can't wait for the next video!!!!!
Just tripped over this channel somehow. I love it.. I’m a Hatfield myself.. My grand father “Millard Hatfield “ married “Lucille Fetty “ from West Virginia.. My sister did a genealogy family tree on us and we are supposedly related to Devil Ance.. I’m in Somerset Ky and she’s in New York.. I love the history of our name. BUT with all that being said.. it’s a shame I live in Somerset Ky and have never travelled to Eastern Ky to see any of these places you all show on your channel.. So thank you so much for all your time and effort into doing these videos!! Hopefully one day soon I will make it over. Y’all stay blessed!!
Ya’ll are doing such a wonderful job. You two make such a great team. Leo tells the personal family stories and Heather searches for the facts. I feel privileged to watch your RU-vid channel.
@@thehillbillyfiles You should do a video about Doc Elliott Hatfield and how he married a girl from my neck of the woods, Nicholas County. Also, how are you related to Devil Anse?
My first time seeing this, and I enjoyed it very much! I love walking through old cemeteries and reading the head stones. I like the way you explain the events!
Just finished watching the Hatfields and McCoys (Kevin Costner version) and found your video. Men with grit and the women were stout. Great video. Y’all southerners were made to tell stories.
This was very informative into Cap Hatfields life. The way you told the story of his relationship with his father is sad. It's to bad he and his father couldn't resolve their issues. I also like how much you show respect to the owners of the properties and asking permission to enter. You were raised right. Thanks for everything and Heather do for this channel. God Bless
I love your page! I have lived here in Logan County for 66 years, Leo you have told me things I never knew about my state of WV and county. Thanks so much😃
I just subscribed and I like the fact that your videos are basically up to date. Plus I live between Prestonsburg and Pikeville. Been up into Dils cemetery looking for family members but can`t be found because of landslides. My surname is Mullins, which peaked my interest. I have interesting stories if anyone would like to hear them. I`m only 57 , but I like history
@@thehillbillyfiles I`m not sure if I`ve seen that one or not. I`ll have to look and see. My understanding our surname Mullins came from the slave owner in Virginia back whenever. That`s why year round I look like a Mexican! I love history though, and Thanks.
I'm a old Alabama native, and I have been to West Virginia several times over the years mainly just riding and looking. Watching your videos has made me want to come back and look deeper into all the legends that come from your beautiful state. Maybe this fall I'll make it.
Cap is buried in a beautiful place. In the woods with wildlife all around with a great view. I like chickens so I would be pleased to lay down in a place like that when my time comes. The other video about the cemetery you said was very sad. My family had a farm and when my dad and his partner bought a farm named shawnee village. It has a old cemetery on it the people before us had moved all most all the markers. A few was left when we got it dad never tried to farm it because he had respect for the people there and the family. It's listed as a lost cemetery in find a grave. I remember seeing a few with the death date in the 1820. John murrell also used it as one of his hq. And 2 if his gang is buried there. I found the names and a short story about the brothers. They was in murrells gang and after holding up a riverboat at shawnee village landing. They all got drunk and the brothers got in a fight with other gang members and were killed. Mark Twain wrote about how bad shawnee village Arkansas was and it was best not to go by there in the 1820s.
All of a sudden theres ppl posting on the feud, well I watched a couple and I knew you and Heather knew more and researched more on the subject...I want truth and you're it....and you're entertaining too.!!!
West Virginia is full of amazement. I'd love to come up there and visit some of these places. Great story telling..you had me intrigued the whole time!
The house property is very pretty I think from what I could see the flowers were daffodils. Cap was certainly very lucky after getting shot in the gut that he survived. back then majority of gut shots were fatal. Very interesting pretty cemetery. How did they ever get caskets up the hills. Leo it didn't rain this time & you didn't end up in a briar patch fighting off the pricker bushes but you sure did have to climb up a steep hill 😁 you're getting good at it.
I love your videos and appreciate you taking us along to see places that we'd never have the opportunity to visit on our own. You do a great job in bringing their stories to life.
I can tell that y’all put your heart and souls into making these videos. The respect that you show for these people (living and deceased) gives me a great respect for you. Thank you from a hillbilly brother from another part of the hills!👍👍
Enjoy your videos. History can be so interesting. I always hate seeing people that have passed on my birthday 4-10. Caps grandson. Keep up the good work. Love WV. Take care.
That was really great. Enjoyed the sights and the history is just amazing. My aunt always talked about the Hatfield's and McCoys and I never really understood any of it until I found your channel. Amazing. Thank you.
I love your channel. I love learning that they were real people, not just actors in a made for tv mini series. Things like this gives me more respect for other people no matter what race they are. It also shows that even though people had slaves they still respected them by giving them a beautiful resting place and they weren't forgotten about. I'm actually hoping you do something's on Native Americans. Because we can't forget about them, also more about the actual war sites.
i love that you're telling these stories about your family.... i love history and your family definitely have made some love your channel i have subscribed.....
Im new here .i just heard your voice as i was scrolling through your voice reminded me of my uncle who passed years ago & so i stoped here to listen & wow what a nice story you tell .thank you .
Good stories of history. Just a thought on the bridge sign.. mention that folks should not be chipping pieces off historic signs n places. It's very disrespectful 😢 to history and the people. Thank you for what you n Heather do.
Excellent video! I love to hear you tell the background stories and show us what you see. Have you covered the Flatwoods monster? My family is from Braxton Co WV, and one of the boys who saw this thing, Ronnie Shaver, was a cousin of mine. I'd love to see you cover it, and/or Braxton Co in general. ❤
If needed, I can provide you with additional information about the Baisdens. The "Outlaw Baisden Brothers" are my cousins and "Doc" is my gggf's brother.
I love your enthusiasm and how you bring the stories to life. Many people have done videos on the Hatfield and McCoy feud, but no one is as detailed and tells them like you. You’re doing a great job, my friend.
Very informative video. You tell a good story Leo. It makes sense, how Devil Anse and Cap became estranged in later years, but still very sad. It had to had been very bad, for Devil Anse to bar Cap from being buried in his own cemetery. Thank you very much again, Leo and Heather, for a great story. Take care.
@The Hillbilly Files - Legends and Locations Yes, I did very much. Thank you very much for getting back to me. I am curious, do you know, what was the name, that Cap gave his knife 🔪?
Hi Leo. I watched this video on Cap Hatfield, a second time, it was that interesting to me. I was wondering, to the best of your knowledge, during the last, say ten years of Cap's life, had he somewhat mellowed out in his personality traits, or was he still a hell raiser? Also, do you have any idea, what became of his knife 🔪?
Super cool series you have put together here. I'm extremely glad to have stumbled upon the channel and absolutely love the content. Looking forward to all of the future content and it's much appreciated!
You give myself and family so much appreciated history we thank you both for sharing your thoughts and hard work please stay safe Godspeed. From the Givens Family 😊
Hi, I’m new to this channel, but I’m thoroughly enjoying your videos. I subscribed when I saw how respectful y’all were to the graves in the cemetery the road runs through. I was born and raised in Arkansas. You sound like my kinda folks. The stuff about the feud is fascinating. It’s hard to imagine that much hatred between the two families. I’ve seen the mini-series with Kevin Costner, but other than that I don’t know much about the whole thing. I believe that it’s important to keep up with the history and Im proud of what you’re doing to educate people. WV and KY look beautiful. I would love to see more of your home. I plan to watch a lot more of your videos and soak up the history. Excellent job on the research. Basically just wanted to thank you for all you do and for letting us tag along. Thanks, Brenda ❤
Looks like someone was trying to get the sign off the bridge. It was just too much work for them so they stopped. Probably won't be there too much longer.
I thought I read somewhere that Cap was buried in a cemetery in Baltimore Maryland?? Guess I can’t believe everything I read on the internet!!😂 I love this channel!!😎🙏💪🇺🇸
I love your channel! I'm a history buff and the Hatfields and McCoys always interested me. The heart you show when you speak about these people brings them to life. That is a God given gift! Thank you for all you share with us. My question is: Has DNA been done? I'd love to know the places their ancestors came from. Probably a lot like mine, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English, and some northern Europe.
Nana always said they were hard hard men. Men of the olden times couldnt show love. they just couldnt express themselves well. even w their daughters they rele struggled ❤️
Excellent videos of all the Hatfield-McCoy history, property, etc. I'm curious about what happened to Cap Hatfield's home. The land around it's location is beautiful, and it made us wonder if the house was demolished or lost to age. Wouldn't that be a great place to visit?
I don't understand how you can own a grave yard it's like a river or ocean, but with that said I can understand being respectful and not leaving garbage or disturbing things ...
I might sound different about cap, but I can only amagin , that in order to protect the people u care a bout in those days , being mean was probably the most practicable thing a person could do . Just a thought
My great great grandmother was the daughter of Wall Hatfield, Devil Anse’s brother and you are correct about it staying in the hills, my dad never talked about anything about the feud if he was ever told anything he never mentioned it.
Just subscribed. I grew up around West Virginia and the Virginia state line. Giles County, Virginia...beautiful mountains, creeks and rivers. Lots of kin folk from both states. Edit: I can't tell if you're pointing at the forsythia bushes or the daffodils. Both are beautiful.
My great great grandmother was a Hatfield she married Wallace lake, they had only one child , Marie lake then she married Thomas Cromwell they had twelve kids out of all them my mother was 2nd oldest.
