With Intuition, the designers were annoyed that players avoided giving their opponent a choice by grabbing three of the same cards. So they added the "different names" restriction to Gifts Ungiven, which lead to opponents not getting a choice in a different way.

It's funny, having only seen Intuition in Commander and Cube, I had no idea the same name text wasn't on there

@@seandun7083 It was one that was caught in playtesting. Maro tried to have them add it because it wasn't his design intent for the card but Development liked how it played and kept it as it is. It's the reason Gifts Ungiven was made.

According to an interview with Sheldon Menery, they will only ban a card if it is problematic at every level of play. So basically, its too expensive for the casual players, so nobody cares. At least, I think that's correct, it's been awhile since I saw that interview😂.

Changing to "up to four cards" was the big mistake

That wasn't a functional change, it just made it apparent to people that you could fail to find more than two cards with different names.

You can fail to find with any tutor as long as it gives some restriction. Since gifts says "with different names" you can fail to find, but demonic tutor, which grabs any card, can't.

@@hyoroemongaming569 That's why they changed the card wording to say "up to four cards." New and average players wouldn't know about that rules quirk and the current wording makes it clear that's a thing you can do without changing the functionality of the card.
