"Rare potato allergy" is indeed the most useless music fact I've ever learned. This is a brilliant idea for a thread.

Fascinating facts! I love the covers on those David Kossof records. I have a great memory of hearing that euro hit Maria Maddalena in a bar in Rome about ten years ago. Probably wouldn't sound quite as good in England minus alcohol...
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
Hey actually it's half decent euro hit which I have been partial to. Strange how lots of euro acts only had one big hit in UK then did nothing else here, there's definitely different tastes here and we are equally more US influenced than mainland Europe.

Hey Richard, actually not as much as you think as things pop into your mind occasionally and like yourself you have a wealth of music knowledge and experience so it was more making some of them up more challenging. Thanks for your comments and I hope you are well.

Remember your a one- ball! ..oh lordy I did laugh Martin..the idea of Tom Jones in a room filled to the ceiling with womens' knickers also raised a smile. Some great factoids there, I have no doubt most are true and it was very entertaining. I'll see if I can come up with something in response over the next few days.

Great, you can use a certain amount of fabrication or I dare you personal experiences you don't have to bare anything you don't want to.

Good facts, Martin. That Alan Lomax Southern Folk Heritage series is important sh*t. It's frightening to think how much American music and arts culture would've disappeared without being collected by the Lomaxes. There's a fabulous Italian pressed box set of the series which I would love to own. I think I've got some of the recordings on the White Spirituals album on another record. I mainly got it for the recordings of the Alabama Sacred Harp Singers. I'm trying to collect various Sacred Harp recordings, which is not such an easy task in the UK. I love that German Cajun and Zydeco series. I've managed to pick them all up, just a shame they only released them on CD from volume six. Sorry, I've not been very interesting.

Insomnia in Finland in the summertime. I hated waking up at 4am..... Similarly couldn't get up in the winter without about six cups of President or kulta kataarina...... Still beautiful defined seasons you have there. Just the mosquitoes I wasn't a fan of.

Good morning Martin. This was an enjoyable post. I did learn some things that I had no idea about. One of the albums that surprised me because it flew under the radar was the Dave Grohl, Gunnar Graps and Roosid Papale album that they did in Russia. Does it have a name to it? Never knew that Free's axe man Paul Kossoff had a dad that was in the business. Never knew that Pam Anderson posed for the Ween cover. I anticipated each artist that you showed. Thanks for sharing this one. If there is one guy in the VC who knows a ton about album tidbits/rarities or who played on what it would be yourself~ Rob/Boston

Hi Martin. Good idea to get away from vinyl finds occasionally. I for one am struggling to find anything decent, and I'm getting fed up watching other people's finds ... I read 'Naked Lunch' many years ago; not something I'd recommend ... I knew some of these random facts. Some cool records shown too ... Useless fact - Big Jim Sullivan (no relation to the American Jim Sullivan) played guitar for Tom Jones during his Las Vegas years. He also played the wonderful acoustic guitar solo on 'Alone Again (Naturally)' by Gilbert O'Sullivan (no relation to the American Jim Sullivan or Big Jim Sullivan).

Hi Carl, I've done the odd thread or competition over the years I even won one once - a beautiful coffee painted picture of Miles Davis by Diana Bernat in Germany - no longer makes videos but has a record shop somewhere over there. Yeah, naked lunch was extremely odd though at the time I was into more odd things. There used to be more unusual films on at the cinema, now only in arthouse ones. I suppose I should be glad my town still has one. Hedley knew about Big Jim Sullivan too I've only gotten into the (older, more oh brother) type of country in the last year or two though I did like Louvin Brothers and those harmonies on a box cd set I found. You can try to start your own thread you know? VC has changed over the years and videos like Stevie's vinyl cupboard one about the hill in the middle of nowhere are really adventurous and so well made. I don't edit. I probably could but haven't yet. Okey enough of my ramblings thanks for watching again, Martin.

@@Thevinylscavenger I interviewed Big Jim Sullivan many years ago and used that to put together an article for Shindig. They cocked up with the layout and missed out a big chunk in the middle from his sitar playing period! I had to tell them, even though it was obvious, and so they ran the missing bit in a later issue ... You see immaculately edited videos on RU-vid and professional music videos, and still they only get a few views. Cheers, Carl

Funny you mention that, I saw 'Rectified Ramble' in 76 at the lesser free trade hall supporting the Pistols! I also stayed over Leos once, he bought me a curry! I wonder if that was the same town as yours? I bought that Derek n Clive, back in the day, thinking it might be worth something, was wrong. But didn't realise they were major players in the rave scene 🤔 I think your math for Tom Jones is off. Over 55yrs Tom would become less appealing to 'the ladies' and the age factor and indeed varying weather conditions and prevailing winds would mean that over time, knicker count would be in gradual decline. Also aging women are less likely to get their knicker off, maybe your experience is different !! I think the knickers used to be collected by him but after he tried to sell them for charity and failed, they went into landfill near Pontypool.

Hi Martin. One of my many claims to non-fame is that I once occupied a toilet cubicle at a Dr Who convention, and Terry Molloy was ensconced in the next cubicle along from me. All my videos are full of random useless music facts, many of which my viewers then tell me are wrong. I actually once took a video down as I was so tired of people telling me I was wrong about something in it. Great Roger Waters story; unfortunately though it's not likely to be true entirely. Waters had nothing to do with getting the kids onto the record, it was the idea of the producer Bob Ezrin and he sent the engineer Nick Griffiths to the school to liaise with the music teacher Alun Renshaw, while Waters stayed behind at Super Bear Studios in France. Unless your school was called Islington Green by the way, the story is entirely untrue.

I tried to read Naked Lunch but couldn't get through it, as it was too disjointed for me. I used to listen to the Archers until it went over the top with its plot lines. I would have thought it would be more knickers than 50k...I'll trust you though and will resist trying to work it out...I will give this some thought but can't imagine I'll have enough for a video...
