Hi Martin. A pretty poor selection I'm afraid. The sort of thing you see regularly for a pound each in a charity shop. I might have considered picking up Middle Of The Road, Kenny, Roy Orbison, Manfred Mann, Glen Campbell, Rod Stewart (I have this one on vinyl and CD), Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson, Houserockin' Music, Francoise Hardy, The Four Seasons, Peter Cook/Jonathan Miller/Spike Milligan/ Peter Sellers, Morris On ( a great album; I have this one), Glitter Band, Rubettes, Chas & Dave, Tony Hancock ( I have this one) and Holst Planets ... It always amazes me that charity shops were full of acts like Max Bygraves, and Ted Heath back in the 80's. Here we are nearly 50 years later and they are still taking up space in their record racks. Take care.

I will be catching up on James Griffiths video too ASAP. Another week here and weather is very changeable like always here. I'm guessing you've been hard at work outside in the sunshine there? I've been playing alot of records this year some 30 years old I'm so glad I kept them all otherwise I'd not remember them to get them again. Highly unlikely to turn up and at a reasonable price too. 90s vinyl is so scarce but more reissues help everyone out. Cheers Rob, Martin.

It was interesting to see the different packaging that US artists got for their UK budget compilations. Wouldn't you think that it would save money to recycle the covers? The Everly Brothers cover portrait was particularly dreadful. Still, I don't think that cutting costs in the art department really created a savings that got passed on to the buyer. That "Crosby Classics" LP is one of my most listened to albums. The music is very dated, but I really like Bing's recordings from the early 1930s. That ASV Living Era Bing Crosby compilation also has good tracks. My copy has a little white sticker that says "Made in England." That Merle Haggard/Willie Nelson record has become an entry-level collectable here in recent years. I usually see it priced at around $20 now. It was a clearance staple before Willie Nelson records got discovered by hipsters. The title track is great. Les Paul and Mary Ford will be worth a listen. Les' guitar playing is a treat for the ears. Bonus Trivia: Les Paul and Bing Crosby were early adopters of German tape-recording technology that was brought back to the USA as plunder. Les used the tape to pioneer multitrack recording. Bing used it to pre-record his radio show broadcasts. That Roy Orbison record has a good collection of hits that will sound great if the album got a good pressing. Cheers, Jacob

@@DallasOpenMicr I'm so sorry I've bunged bing in the bin.There are some truly dreadful illustrations out there (would it be fair to compare to Italian catholic Jesus?). @@Thevinylscavenger Willie and Merle aren't/weren't hipsters, but the hipsters have decided that they were far enough removed from mainstream country music that they are cool. It's hard to tell if the hipsters like the music as much as they like the image. Willie is the only elderly country entertainer who I've seen attract a young crowd at his live shows. Willie's mainstream hits, like "On the Road Again," get a strong reaction from youngest concert attendees. The twentysomethings go wild when they hear the familiar/nostalgic songs. (These are also the few songs that most actually know. They get bored and talk loudly during the deeper cuts.) I would imagine that many of the drunk young ladies who soulfully wave their beer cans in the air while swaying to the music don't actually own a single Willie Nelson album. Cheers, Jacob

Good evening Martin. So good to see you again on this Sunday evening. I saw that James Griffiths posted a new video that I will get to later on. I have to say. That was one of the most unique variety of records that I have seen in a long time. I do not really know what to say about 90% of them. Because I am not really familiar with them. People like Marty Robbins, Peter Ustinov {I thought that he was an actor}, George Hamilton {an actor from here in the US who is always tanned} and Boxcar Willie I am aware of. But not their music. Manfred Mann and Pavarotti were nice finds. It was a longer video but interesting from start to finish Martin. Are you going to give each one of those a listen? That may take you some time to do so. But if so. I hope that some of them are much better than you may have expected. Have a nice week~ Rob/Boston

Hello Mr Scavenger. I swear one of those boxes was full of a bunch of country records I dumped at a charity shop a few years ago. I've got a couple of Jean Redpath records, she's quite a good Scottish folk singer who spent most of her later years in America or Canada. She has a nice voice, but there is a whiff of shortbread about her. I've got that Lewis Family record. Pretty good bluegrass gospel. My parents had that Gary and Vera Aspey album. I think they bought it at one of their gigs. I used to love it, the 8 year old me found the funny songs hilarious. Lots of music there that's become horrifically out of date. Makes one wonder what is the modern equivalent? You can't move for Robbie Williams CDs at the charity shop. Hed

The Paul Barbarin jazz album that you flashed at the end of the video could be a good listen if the sound quality is halfway decent. Barbarin played with some of the top New Orleans jazz bands of the 1920s and stayed around long enough to enjoy the New Orleans jazz revival in the '50s and '60s. His "Bourbon Street Parade" is a standard. Barbarin died drumming in the Mardi Gras parade of 1969. --- If you don't like the record now, save it in your library for another day. It may grow on you. The Coleman Hawkins record might be a pleasing listen. The Verve label didn't push avant-garde jazz. Verve was the jazz senior care home for old guys who still enjoyed playing and recording. It's my favorite jazz label. I enjoy the Modern Jazz Quartet, but some of their experiments don't connect with me. I sampled Lola on RU-vid. The saxophone does make it sound a bit like a Brubeck record. The difference is that the sax playing is shrill rather than sweet and smooth. This one hurt my ears. The Discogs price on the album would make it easy to part with. You could sell it or trade it for a complete collection of Leo Sayer's entire discography. Here's what I do if I need to air out a funky record jacket: 1.) Take the record out of the jacket. 2.) Crumple up a fresh sheet of typing/copy paper and insert the paper ball into the jacket pocket, opening the pocket. 3.) Allow time for fresh air to circulate inside the open jacket pocket. Position the open pocket so that it faces a fan or air purifier. You could also let it air out in the sunshine. (This usually does the trick.) 4.) Store the record jacket in a new plastic sleeve. Store the record in a new inner sleeve in the backside of the outer sleeve. (If some funky odor remains inside the jacket pocket, it won't be strong enough to escape.) ---- Do whatever works best for you on the jacket scrubbing. I'm willing to risk using Clorox wipes when the cover needs to be disinfected. Don't forget to scrub the inside of the jacket. That's the stinky spot! I've never listened to an Iron Maiden album, but the Prisoner is my favorite single-season television program. (It's too long to be a miniseries.) Would I buy an Iron Maiden LP album if it was bargain? Probably. Would I ever listen to it? Not until I get headphones that will work with my amplifier. I did see Michael Schenker play a club show with UFO in 1995. It was a good time. They either ran out of songs that they had rehearsed, or they gave the fans what they wanted by playing "Rock Bottom" twice in the second or third encore. Happy 4th of July, Jacob

@@DallasOpenMicr as thorough an answer as I've come to expect so whatever I write back I feel I've short changed you. The Barbarin not Barbara Ann (arf arf) is scratchy so not salvageable. I'm not sure about alot of jazz including all the bits but the Polish one will definitely be finding a new home. Did you mean what we used to call 'carbon copy' paper like the black stuff? I will probably keep the iron maiden - I have previously been into them. To me as a indie grunge 90s boy I always considered them hair metal and outdated. I too very much like, liked the prisoner, still not been to Portmerrion but it's on my hitlist. 4th July is weirdly our general election here today, have just finished work so will go and vote now. No idea until I get there. It is great to see you back again and doing a new finds update Martin~ Rob/Boston Comment 1 of ?

Hey Rob, yes I've not been so prolific of late because just now so busy with work like your good self. I would like more time but have to concede that it's not possible but I listen to radio when driving about so get a decent fix from that. Never heard of Big Daddy but I'm a sucker for cover versions. Have a great weekend, Martin.

Sean Rowley. Interesting bloke. When I moved back to London in 99 he always used to be DJ ing in these tiny clubs we went in..that would disappear the week after. He used to play lots of charity shop exotica & easy listening, that was having a big revival at the time. He did a great programme on channel four called ‘All Back To Mine’ ., the accompanying compilation album for the TV series was great too.

He seemed a decent enough guy. Guilty Pleasures is his big kahuna now playing non cool 70s records daytime for people our age trying to be cool. I think he is used to people like me by now 😅 that's it, you get in the ('London') door and your in for life. Shall we call them 'hipster influencers'? Milking the cash cow with a certain panache before me or you thought of an idea. There was the sound gallery and in flight albums I have somewhere maybe he did those I'd have to check the sleeve notes. OK mate have a good weekend. Slovakia that footballing giant heavyweight await tomorrow........

Now don't be mad at me.. my team is Liverpool Football Club ! 🧐Really, American football is my thing, and I am a true fan of the San Francisco 49er's 🏈 Good to see you enjoy Nirvana.. For Scotland I like Jesus And Mary Chain & Teenage Fanclub.. Good choice with Simple Minds ! Cheers from Nevada

Hey JT I don't mind you supporting Liverpool they do have American owners Fenway sports group (?) J&MC would've been cooler but think I only have a 12" somewhere. It's only when you show footage of Nevada I realise how different terrain that is there. Cheers, Martin.

Interesting idea Martin and well done on getting so many. Not sure what tonight will bring in terms of style. I'm shattered from watching the real competition that is the T20 world cup and England just scraping through the group stages last night/this morning...
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Месяц назад
Tonight and the group stage is just to qualify even third might do. Southgate will inevitably become more defensive as we progress I reckon. Never thought I'd say we might miss Harry McGuire but I think we are short at the back.

Love that Deodato album.. he is Brazilian but has Italian ancestry. My favourite ever football song/video is the ‘94 World Cup anthem “Far Away In America” by the German team and The Village People.. Klinsmann really brought the energy!

I kinda ballsed up this video but heyho nevermind. Lots of footballers play for countries they weren't born in so let's take that same with musicians and passports. Guess I could've had Boney M in there too.

So good to see you back Martin. Loved your representation to the different countries. Now you must have done some homework choosing what artist/song to represent each location? You certainly have the collection for it. Love the jersey. Always the best seeing you posting again M~ Rob/Boston

Hey Rob I couldn't do them all. Laibach are from Slovenia but I have nothing by them. Few I only have classical ones particularly ex-Yugoslavia where the languages are very important to them but maybe not so known outside of their own areas. Thanks for watching. Summer here so far has been very typical British. One day sunny the next wet and rainy.

@@Thevinylscavenger It seems that no matter how you describe the weather in England Martin. It always sounds like a magical place to live. Are the people out there really that nice and laid back? Or are they angry and always in a rush like they are here in crazy America?

I'm jealous (apart from the mosquitoes) I think England can potentially win it why not? Just it's mentally a struggle because it's been so long time. I'm actually not very patriotic at all but try to do my bit.

My wall chart is already up Martin..still reeling from Southgates' decision to leave Grealish out of the squad..hey ho. Time will tell if that was a bad decision or not. I think England have a tough job on their hands..

Yup agreed we are a little short of defensive cover too. It's Southgate's last tournament so he should go for it last chance saloon.
