I interviewed her and met her again while living in Japan in the 80s. She was just as sweet and gracious as she appears here. Her voice just has a special timbre you don't often hear - both speaking and singing. And she has a musicality one certainly doesn't hear often these days. A real gem.
A gem!! This Lady is so precious. A voice that can't be replicate. It's a must that I join in by saying how uncelebrated she is but if she reads this I just want to her know that she is most cherished by her Fans.

It seems that is true in a lot of cases. I’m American and I have to actively look for what’s going on with the greats from years past but throw away non-talented cookie cutter artists are always getting press and publicity. When they die they’ll play a few songs and pretend they know and appreciate them. Terrible mentality over here.
They dont have them like this anymore. Such simple God-given beauty shining through the lyrics of the songs. And they are real songs. I remember her songs, with that tinge of sweet-soulful-sad used to make me cry even when I knew no lyric line...they still do. And seeing her now, so calm and happy as a child, its just a thing of joy and the world is just a better place just because of people like her.
This woman has one of the most original and unique voices in music! Thanks for the jams Randy you bring back memories of me with my mom who has sinced passed away!!! Miss you mommy!!!
I'm an American, and I've often wondered the same thing. I can only chock it up to be regardless of how wonderful and talented the singer is, if she doesn't have a certain image, she's virtually ignored. Randy is a special case, because she was beautiful and talented., but I guess the shady record company people were too worried about not selling records and making a profit than they were about providing a platform for this lady. and also, I think she's more popular overseas is because the English people have awesome taste in artists and music! ;)
Her voice makes me cry, makes me smile .. She was / is simply Amazing! Her voice is unlike all others. Thanks for this interview. Watching in 2024. The giant Joe Sample has been gone from us ten yrs this year. Love him. Those two created magic!
This a rare treat to me because it's not that often I've seen Randy Crawford interviews, love her, beautiful soul inside and out, and yes she does seem to have more success overseas than here in her home country, but I for one love her and think she is an absolute treasure, she is a jazz legend!!

+Shane Collier Heck yeah. Saw her years ago on the Joan Rivers show (early '90s) and she was just as charming and funny them as she is in this interview. In fact, this is only the second interview I've ever seen her give. Grew up hearing her music (my aunt was a fan, and it's because of her I would up liking the sad, but beautiful Crawford gem "Rio De Janeiro Blues", which,according to my aunt, was only available on cassette at the time (early '90s.) Underrated as a singer to some extent,too---nice to see her getting some love overseas.
My dad used to have some awful cassette tapes in his car, Randys were brilliant, even now she just fills you up inside and makes you feel every emotion she sings. What a wonderful woman.
I've followed Randy Crawford for many years. She is genuinely as lovely as her lyrics. I always thought she was from the islands. I used to listen to her from morning till night in 1982 and here I am again. Same songs taking me there. Thank you Randy Crawford for many years of melodies from the heart.
This lady along with the Cruisaders was so underrated stateside,I had the fortune to watch them in a small theatre in Hastings ,England,just magnificent.
She is beautiful, Black and proud!! Nothing pretentious about her. If you don't like her go checkout something else. Maybe she is too classy for those who have no class. What a gracious lady! What a voice!
I would definitely agree with that.. I met her once upon a time at a charity function here in the UK, and of all the people there that night, everyone wanted to meet Randy Crawford, and bless her heart, she made it her business to get around as many people as she could, but she never stopped smiling all night.. but you couldnt be in her company and not smile with her.. beautiful woman and so underrated in the industry. :-)
Randy, dont know if you will ever ead this BUT you are one of the best R&B Singers we have ever encountered in the UK. Almaz, is such an amazing song that you wrote, love the story that goes with it. You will never know how many pianists i have asked to play it for me. I just wish I could see a really great piano turorial, so I with my limited ability I could follow. i would love to be able to honour your song by playing it. Born in a worls where love survives. Sadly it is so rare, but on the eve of Valentines day I am proud to say I have say my Wife and i have share 52 Valentine Days together. Kindest wishes GU
I think I have to agree with Randy here that Almaz is my favourite or at least one of them. The song is so haunting. I learnt of the song in my teens. It wouldn't be until I was 36 that I met and married the love of my life. ❤
Being Randy Crawford aside, i just want her to be my nanna. It seems that just being in her presence, with that warm smile, would melt my troubles away
