In a shocking twist yesterday, free agent Randy Gregory decided to spurn the Dallas Cowboys for Shannon's Denver Broncos. The pass-rusher had agreed to a five-year, $70 million deal with Dallas before changing his mind and signing a similar deal with Denver just hours later. It doesn’t make sense, because the context is that they are overpaid for that and many many reasons more. They are paid in case they are traded out of nowhere, so they can relocate with no financial impact, so they can hire people to do all their affairs etc etc. It’s nothing to do with a real job were you can hold the perspective Shannon is using. They are not paid all that money because they are worthy on performance and talent alone is for the possibility of inconveniences that come with the world of sports. Ain’t no fans feeling bad for a dude that feels if he does something wrong he will lose money, then just behave properly, if anything it tells you that he doesn’t know if he will be a good player/citizen and he doesn’t want to risk a little he just prefers money period.

i mostly agree that players should definitely go where they want and protect themselves when it comes to contract negotiations. this one here though....*sigh* it stings a bit because i feel that the cowboys looked after Randy all those years he was suspended and STILL believed in him, even gave him a new contract. I don't know the nitty gritty of the details in the contract. i feel like those days are past him and he shouldn't have worried about getting fined but that's just my thought process

@@LeviathontheGreat he is saying that the contract says the cowboys can go after the money he’s already earned on previous years of the contract if he is suspended for drug abuse. That is not what that section states, it says that they are entitled to not pay him his remaining money for that year not the money he’s already earned. Also this language is already in the CBA so you don’t even have to put in in your contracts it is just the rules you get suspended you don’t get paid.

Honestly I can see both. 1 could argue if not for Jerry, randy might not be in the nfl so from a humanity standpoint you wanna have his back cuz he threw you a lifeline. But from Randy’s standpoint it’s simple, if they’re giving me a deal that guaranteed more money then I’m going, it’s not that hard. At the end of the day randy needs to be accountable for his own BS, he’s a grown man he shouldn’t need a babysitter to make sure he’s not breaking rules and honestly the cowboys would be foolish to not have a deal like this setup for him, he’s missed more games than he’s played

Also, Marijuana is legal in Colorado. That removes an entire class of problems around purchase and possession in addition to the NFL’s leniency. Would make total sense to take slightly less and know that he can indulge however he chooses without consequence or issue.

The same language is in the CBA that was already agreed to. Any player that violates the language of the collective bargaining agreement is subject to the exact same discipline outlined in Gregorys contract. His agent is a Denver Broncos fan and that is just a fact. When you hold this situation up to the light you see that there is no difference between the 2 contracts. Simple and plain... The Cowboys putting that language in the contract is, if anything, beneficial for Gregory. Randy is a dynamic player but he is not worth the salary he was offered and ultimately got. I wish him the best and congratulate him on his new contract. Hopefully he will be better at the one ability he has struggled with...availability.

Hello, I have been a die hard Cowboys fans ever since I learned about the NFL when I was 4 or 5, I'm 48 today. So I have followed them through some great years,the Staubach and Aikman years. There had been as many rough years as well White and Bledsoe years Then of course the Blah years under HC Garrett. An event happened back in early 1994. Jerry Jones fired a 2 time(repeat) SB champion coach, Jimmy Johnson. The reason was Jerry's pride and belief he could now keep this team one tract. I thought to myself at that point in time "well we might get one more(SB), the team is to good, but after that....nothing. until Jerry Jones either sells the team or Jerry will have to swallow his pride and keep his hands off the team culture."

What all these 4 lettet networks are ignoring for affiliation reasons is the suspensions resulted in losing bonus and guarantee money. But if being fined can result in these loss of income isnt in every contract and that was the deal breaker for Gregory

Skip should apply his reasoning to his own paycheck. We pay skip 8 million a year for four years. But if skip offends viewership with his takes he has to forfeit all four years of his guarantee.
