They believe he got on the plane because Rachel Youngblood, the other person who died in the crash, who was in her 50s and had a bad heart, wanted to go on, but was too afraid to go alone. And Mr. Randy Rhoads, who was being a gentleman, got on with her, although he himself was terrified to fly.
Me too! As we heard from others , Rhoads hated flying. I am thinking Rachel was extremely terrified and upset when that prick aycock started doing those flies close to the bus and Rhoads started to get at ayecock at the cockpit to stop it. I believe Don Airey witnessed the plane coming at the bus on its last fly by and noticed that in the cockpit window.
He is nonchalantly shredding, arms amd hands effortlessly tuned in to speed mode . Rhoads was gonna take it higher than that had he lived!! Imagine Rhoads vs yngwie? Evh was topped off by 81 fair warning and was scared of yngwie. Too bad he never acknowledged he worshipped Rhoads, I remember someone close to rhoads saying Rhoads told him he was at the back of the record store line buying some classical records and that rhoads saw eddie at the front at the register buying blizzard and diary.
Randy was the nicest & most humble guy you'd ever wanna meet!! We talked about his being voted guitarist of the year & awards he had recently won. I still have the green "Diary of a Mad man" 1982 backstage pass. Of all the people I've met in this business, that one really meant the most to me. Also, hanging out w/ Tommy Aldridge, not knowing being 13 at the time, that I would be filling his old spot in BLACK OAK ARKANSAS just 8 yrs. later!! Life's full of coincidences & curve-balls! Gotta luvit
This was in Beaumont, TX. Fair Park Coliseum was just off of I-10 and hosted many shows/events including Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, rodeos, monster truck shows, etc. It was torn down a few years back and is now the site of a 'housing complex'. I was 16 when this show came through in February of 1982, I was forbidden to go - DAMN IT!
The man was a genius. He died so young just barely hitting his prime. I wonder everyday what guitar would be like with randy rhoads still alive. RIP Randy you are missed
WOW..this is some rare footage. When I first saw the title..I thought it was some bad audio tape someone recorded on cassette tape. Thx for sharing this rare clip of Randy at soundcheck!
randy never really ripped on record like he does in this vid. musical maturity man. he played what was needed 4 the song.he was one of the greatest hands down.
I remember listening to Blizzard and Diary always hearing something new in the mix.Randy was very humble dude,he was always thinking to do riffs better, new things, once VanHalen 1 came out Eddie was wrapped up in a nutshell, still plays the same stuff.Confined by it.
My father promoted this show in Beaumont. I was 13 at the time,& was a "HUGE" Ozzy & Randy fan! I met Randy in their dressing room, as he warmed-up w/ his cream colored Les Paul, a burning cigarette between the strings on the headstock the whole time. That is a moment that I will never forget! He was killed 31 days later. Tommy Aldridge was on drums that tour (formerly of BLACK OAK ARKANSAS). Ironically, I went on to play drums w/ BOA from '90-'96. Small world, huh?
No doubt. So many great guitarists. SRV, Jimi, Randy, etc. I would have loved to hear the stuff these guys would be putting out today. Everyone lost something when these guys died.
Wow...Randy Rhoads played in my home town and I missed it. : ( I was only about 9 years old on this day and didn't know it happened. Thanks for this video.
It is Amazing How Every Moment Counts when you are famous.Shouldn't it be the same for all of us.Yet, this footage means something to me because it is Rare.
i am so jealous of you. i wish i would have been alive to have seen randy play back then, especially when he was in quiet riot. i only hope you know how priveledged you are to have seen him. and i too wish he were alive to have seen what he would have done.
A24Fretman I was living in Baytown Tx, at the time, and I went to this show. Then a couple Nights later saw them again in Houston at the Sam Houston Colosseum. Phenomenal Shows! Funny thing is, I really didn’t realize what I was witnessing. Well, as they say: You don’t know what you have,....... Until it’s gone
I remember waiting outside the Rosemont horizon to get in and could hear Randy doing the sound check. His live sound was mind blowing! You can find 23 minutes of that concert on YT under Ozzy live Rosemont Horizon.
I think Randy played some of the most melodic guitar solos rock music has ever known. He obviously thought about his solos carefully, & didn't just wing it & fall back on cliches like almost all of the rest of us do.
I agree totally. It seems like a lot of guitar players now can play FAST!!!, but it seems like a lot of them sound alike. I think that is what set the players from the 80's-early 90's and before apart. For the most part when you heard a solo you immediately could tell if it was Eddie VH or George Lynch or SRV or Jimi. They had their own style and feel. Now when you hear a solo in a lot of cases it could be many different players. Best wishes, Dr. Ryles
As good and influential as Van Halen and Hendrix are (both legends for sure) I would not cast off Rhoads, ever. He was a true mastermind as well and I think he was as good as Van Halen because his ideas were so different. I also think for who he was he is so under rated and Van Halen gets way too much attention. This man wasn't round for long and look at the influence he had!
I had my Randy little flick on my bedroom wall. It said "10 year's without a reall hero" This was in -92. 28 years now. Same thing without SRV. 20 years... Buddy Holly, Richie Wallens (Valensuela), The Big Bopper! 51 years ago! "You're mine, and we belong toghether"....
If Randy were still around he could have mastered any of the most advanced new styles of shredding from the cream of the crop guitarist of today. With his dedication, technique and shear inventiveness he would still be on top.Eddies style has been mastered the first years after it came out.He still plays the same riffs, slower though. The last thing new he came up with was the old electric drill on the string trick!Sheeesh!!
My biggest inspriration when it comes to guitar, 2nd would be Ace Frehley. Remember buying Dressed To Kill album when it first came out in 1975, I was 9 years old I believe. Damn I'm getting old! In Texas, Randy is still very much alive in spirit and inspiration. We are an entitled to our favs. I don't really care if Randy was on your top 10 list, a lot of people that play recognize his talent including myself. Not to say I'm anywhere near his playing, most people aren't. Cheers!
im from this town and i only wish i was old enough to see this. but thats what i get for being born 8 years after rr's death. why must the best die young
