Most singers are lucky if they get to work with one iconic guitarist- Ozzy Osbourne's career has been defined by two. Ozzy's collaborations with Randy Rhoads resulted in some of the most iconic and influential guitar riffs ever written, as many musicians have told us over the years.
In this video, you'll see artists like Asking Alexandria's Ben Bruce, Mastodon's Brent Hinds, and Metalocalypse's Brendon Small pay tribute to Ozzy and shred some of Randy's greatest riffs, such as "Crazy Train," "Mr. Crowley," and "Diary of a Madman."

I've always thought that "Believer" is the most crushingly heavy Ozzy riff ever

One of the best off that album for sure. I always invision Godzilla wading through a Japanese city destroying everything in his path! Someone should use that track in a new flick.

Dude I love that slow stomping riff and then when the solo comes it's like an explosive burst of pure Randy energy. Have you checked out the Dimebag cover of it?

Yeah I agree and think SATO is another one that I put in that heavy dark composition with a heavy guitar driven riff and a short but ferocious guitar solo as good as anything ever laid down on vinyl .all Rhoads songs are so far ahead in structures .the level of talet shown in the "Diary Of A Madman" LP is truly LEGENDARY .If you break down these songs and actually listen to how all the sections are completely in sync with each other as far as played in specific keys and notes that carry each sections and hand them off to the next stage and are blended so perfectly .the use of building the music up to climaxes and back down .the flows of the music is the most impressive thing about Randy as a musician and songwriter even over his playing .everyone wants to talk about his playing and try and comparing him to Eddie .but his real brilliance is in the compositions and how they were created from a real concept of music theory thats what carrys a song from start to finish and all points in between .it all mapped out down to the smallest of aspects .

Yeah I'd agree there

Randy Rhodes in my opinion was and still is the best guitarist ever! I love the fact he is still being recognized by the younger generation for his greatness . I watched this more than once...total awesomeness

In my opinion Ozzy Osbourne's Solo Career would NOT have been without Randy Rhoads🎸ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻

I have read Ozzys biography and even in his book Ozzy states that he didnt know if he would have made a comeback without Randy. There is so much history between them they became the best of friends and it damn near killed Ozzy when Randy died. He also has a documentary God Bless Ozzy I highly recommend it

Mr Crowley has two of the greatest solos of all time. Just imagine what he would have become had he not gotten on that plane....people would've been all "Eddie van Who?" RIP Randy 🤘

Lol. Not really. Randy was great, but let's not get crazy.
@bryanation1758

Ur not crazy, evh feared randy because he was SHOWING people how to tap and showing them how to do everything that evh was gatekeeping. Holding techniques from other musicians is not the way of music. Thats just ignorant and childish. as much as i respect what evh did for the change in rocks future, if randy never went up there he wouldve surpassed him. You could hear the arrogance in halens voice when he mocked randys death subtly in an interview while also lying that all randy learned was from him, thats just insane to think. Thats the mentality of a man who was in fear, and afterwards he was more comfortable than ever, randy was his only real competitor
@PickettMusic
@PickettMusic 7 месяцев назад
@@bryanation1758 😄😄😄😄EVH didn't fear RR and RR didn't fear EVH. They were competitors, but had their own things going. If anything, EVH set the bar for everyone.

I agree. Those 2 solos he did live on the "After Hours" New York public access TV studio back in 1981 that is here on RU-vid in my opinion are the greatest heavy metal solos every done .especially live .he played every second of them on feeling alone with his eyes closed the whole time .actually extraordinary a true masterpiece .
@johnhagan582
@johnhagan582 7 месяцев назад
@@PickettMusic Your right Eddie did set the bar high for everyone that followed behind him .which Randy did just 3 short years later .but honestly Randy kinda took it to a new level with his precise note for note flawless soloing .Randy was much more educated on the guitar than Eddie was .Randy read and wrote sheet music mapping out every single aspect of his material something Eddie didn't and couldn't do .Randy was taught to play guitar and so many more instruments where Eddie never took a guitar lesson in his life and was self taught playing outta the seat of his pants .so they both were extremely gifted guitar player .one got to have a 40 year career and the other a 2 and a half year career so there's no doubt Eddie will always be remembered for changing the face of guitar playing single handedly but Ed was a ass that had major ego issues that made other musicians not want to work with him and Randy was the opposite down to earth nice guy that would go out if his way to show and teach anyone that wanted to kno .not turn his back to audiences and hide wat he was playing from everyone

Mr Crowley and Crazy Train are good but they're just so overplayed and too common now. If you want real tasty stuff, the solos to Revelation (Mother Earth) Diary of a Madman and Over the Mountain are ones that grabbed me by the ass and still have not let go. Amazing work

Nobody I have heard can play the solo for Mr. Crowley like Randy did on Blizzard of Oz. His picking and tone on that solo is pure magic. Whenever I listen to it, I am always amazed. Randy was a genius at song writing and blending rock with classical.

To me “Diary…” is the best metal song ever written. Everything about it with the acoustic guitar, powerful electric guitar riffs and the way Lee Kerslake attacked the odd time signatures to the lyrics and Ozzy’s voice.
