Wanna share this with you: In 1988 I saw RT in Cincinnati, Ohio. We got backstage, and waited as Randy finished his encore. As he came backstage, my cousin asked for his autograph. He reached for the pen and paper, but his many body guards wouldn't let him. As they rushed him out, I yelled, "can we at least shake your hand?" desperately. He stopped, turned and waited for all four of us and took time to shake all our hands. A magical moment.
My Dad played his guitar and sang all Randy’s songs coming up. While I miss hearing my Dads voice still love listening to Randy Travis all these years later.
Randy Travis is another wonderful singer, who has such a unique style voice, so easy to listen to ,absolutely amazing gentleman. Randy has some great songs in his Portfolio. LOVE his husky voice .REGARDS ELIZABETH SCOTLAND ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Country songs today still have meaning, and they actually do the classics a service, you know how I got here, I listened to a country rock song, It Ain't my Fault by Brothers Osborne, which led down a list of Toby Keith songs, I Ain't as Good as I Once Was, How Do You Like Me Now, Hope on the Rocks (which has an amazing meaning) and then That's Country Bro, the last one I wasn't exactly a fan of, but it mentioned Diggin' up Bones, a name that caught my eye in the long list of classic country artists and western actors, I then listened to Diggin' up bones, liked it and came here, wether you like it or not, these songs still get attention because of them, but I recommend you give 'em a chance, I recommend Toby Keith, a few of his songs, I think, are close to classic country, but it's all country. Country is a genre that strip away some of the bullshit and tells a story, country rock has more of it's genes in rock with a little country influence from my experience, and pop country is just a different style of classic country, "pop" country and classic country both tell stories, and who are you to decide that one man's story is less country than another, you can prefer one style to another, but don't go around saying one doesn't have meaning.
The dieing breed. I miss my Lisa❤❤❤ women just are not the same. God bless from West Virginia. I love you Lisa , I know you're in heaven , but can I have this dance? Love and miss you Lisa. Ronnie ❤❤❤
Seems like just last week. I was a kid , and this was playing outta my dads pickup. Miss those days. And i never thought country music would become so bad as it has today. WOW. At least we still got stuff like this.
Thank you so much for being a true fan of my music, those lovely comments of yours went straight to my heart❤️. Well I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤️, thank you
Then BOOM Randy and "Storms of Life" entered our lives and changed things for the better. This Randy Travis guy, this newcomer opened the doors for Alan Jackson, George Strait, The Kentucky Headhunters. All of a sudden traditional was cool again. So Randy if you ever read this I love ya. Millions of us love ya and pray that you get better. The good lord has enough singers for now I want to keep you here a whole lot longer.
Why I love Randy Travis - This is a longish story… When I was a young Cadet at the Virginia Military Institute I had a wonderful opportunity to march in George H. W. Bush’s inaugural parade (Millard Fillmore Here!). We were still in uniform later that evening at the inaugural ball and some of us were asked to help with security. I drew one of two peach assignments of standing bodyguard for the talent just before they went on stage. There were two entries and two exits on each side of the stage. While one act was performing, the other following act would wait at the opposite entry. Some of the stars that waited with me were very nice and cordial to the fans, and some were not. Perhaps the biggest star on the ticket turned out to be a complete jerk to the fans. I was one of his biggest fans until that evening. I was able to meet and briefly chat with half of the stars as they waited their turn to go on stage. The other half passed in front of me as they exited, but none of them did anything more than wave at the crowd as they made a hasty exit. Randy Travis entered on the opposite side of the stage, and was one of the stars that passed in front of me as he exited. Unlike the other stars, he seemed happy to pause and shake hands with people lining the exit tunnel. A woman leaned over the railing when he was literally halfway down the tunnel and shouted “We Love You Randy!” At that point he turned around came back up the tunnel to make sure he told that woman face to face that he loved her too and stood several minutes talking with her and other fans. It was just a few minutes, but that woman almost certainly has never forgotten the “hour or two” that she spent talking with Randy Travis. He was so down to earth and genuinely kind in his comments to her and the other fans. I shook hands with him (his hands are HUGE!!) but didn’t think to get a picture. I am an African American male who had ZERO interest in country music at a time when Rap music was king and New Jack Swing was just coming into its own. Hard to believe, but I have listened to Randy Travis for all of my adult life now…and I am nearing 50. I hope someday to meet Randy Travis again in person to thank him for a life changing experience. There are a lot of people out there (Black and White) who like me dismissed country music and country music fans as throwbacks to a darker time in American history. One man’s kindness to a fan at an event where other “stars” were carrying themselves like petulant children forced me to see an important truth about people - who you are as a person on the inside will always show through the glitter on the outside - who you truly are trumps everything else whether you like it or not - and there is nothing you can do about it except stay who you are or work to become a better person. I am not White, I am not conservative, but I am a proud Randy Travis fan!!!
fdc4k That's an awesome story man. He defiantly is a class act and a class musician. He was the beginning of the end of classical country music. My Dad loved him as did i.
I know you posted this a long time ago but thank you so much for sharing your story. So nice to know that Randy is such a kind person. And Bless You for opening your heart to all kinds of music. I'm glad that you got to see who was real and who wasn't. What is that old saying "Who you are is what you do and how you act when you think no one is looking. '"Something similar to that. You sure got to see that up close. Thanks again.
+Vickie Taylor My sister recently had an embolism, we're told, and didn't fare as well as Randy. I say this only because thank heavens, he's still alive. As far as a vocal recovery goes - I'm in no position to offer a useful opinion. But of course, I will anyway: One must first consider what the human voice is and what it does. Is it not (and I don't claim that this is a perfect definition of either) a device that produces sounds because air from the lungs is forced to pass through the vocal chords on its way through the resonant cavities dynamically shaped in the spaces above - and ultimately articulated with the tongue to create the necessary sustained vowels (and occasionally consonants) required for singing? If not, then you needn't burden yourself by reading further: But if you're still with me, I can only hope (but not pray) that we can agree on that, there is no reason why Randy can't sing again. I think it must be true that Randy's brain must tell his chords (in particular) what to do. They know how to do their job because they were born to do it. Only Randy (like all of us) can say this. So therefore, I believe that some day, in at least some way, Randy will chime again, like a bell. It's Randy's gift. And he knows it. The first time he knew it, must have been thrilling. Can you imagine? To realize that you're a damn fine singer (and with that range) and my God - one day you might even be recognized as one of the best country singers of all time? Tone and range! I can see why he may have wanted a drink (but I don't recommend too many, to too many people) to steady his nerves when he realized this. And the fortunes and the happiness to come. And the fact that he deserved finally to be recognized as one of the greatest.
On one hand I count the reasons I could stay with you And hold you close to me, all night long. So many lover's games I could play with you And on that hand I see no reason why it's wrong But on the other hand, There's a golden band To remind of someone who would not understand On one hand I could stay and be your loving man But the reason I must go is on the other hand In your arms I feel the passion, I thought had died When I looked into your eyes I found myself When I first kissed your lips I felt so alive I've got to hand it to you girl, you're something else But on the other hand, There's a golden band To remind of someone who would not understand On one hand I could stay and be your loving man But the reason I must go is on the other hand
I’m 15 years old and hearing this in 2021 . Grew up waking up with grand dad at 4 in the morning to go fishing . Randy Travis and hank were always on repeat . I miss grandad and I miss this kind of music , sad to see my generation leave this behind .

Randy, you are the man, this how country music should sound, not pop/dance music without real feeling, give me this style of country any day, keep it country!
I have never been a country fan - but this man's voice is exceptional. Still not a great fan of country music but absolutely a fan of this man and his golden voice.
My boyfriend use to sing that song to me it means a lot to me. And also played it on his 🎸 for me 👌 he's in heaven singing it when I met him back 23 years ago pretty song it has memory that I can not forget
When I first heard this song back in '86, I assumed it was song by some old guy like George Jones. I was shocked to learn it was some new guy in his 20s! He has the voice of old time country.

When the giants of country are mentioned, Haggard, Jones, Williams, Texas Playboys, etc, why is THIS MAN ALWAYS LEFT OUT?? The guy shat hits for the entire 80's.
My little sister loves this song. She has Down Syndrome so doesn't like new things. She only listens to songs she already knows and doesn't like to listen to new ones but I had this playing in the car and she didn't want to like it but she started to nod and dance along and pretty soon was singing along. She says it's a good one and she likes it a lot!❤

I love his voice, his passion for bringing to light real life situation. His songs bring up so many emotional moments in life both good and bad. I pray for his health and strength. We need his truth in this world today. God bless you

To those saying this is real country music, you realize that before the golden age of the 80s, people thought the same about him. The 80s was a huge change in country music towards where it is now. Music evolves and changes with every generation.

I have pretty much lost my wife of 18 years at this point and I can definitely relate... Not really sure of myself.... but I'm out looking for songs like this right now
All respect to the late, great Keith Whitley, here. Don't get me wrong. Keith might've come out with his version just a little bit before Randy's, and his was really good. But, Randy owned this song! Nobody ever did it better!
Randy has always made me self-evaluate. You know your a good artist when people not only enjoy your music, but also that you evoke an emotion in them that causes them to take an action. Cheers.
Randy Travis as been one of my favorite country singer for so many years ,I saw him in Montreal, canada many years ago and he's better as he gets older. We love you Randy
A great voice, a great singer, I wish you a speedy and full recovery RT, thank you for all of your great music. When RT recorded this song, country music was still great, sadly, very sadly, it is now run by committees, and corporations who only want to profit from selling another product. Brings a tear to my eye.
Many artists covered this authentic country tune Written by Travis . Among them features The great g.Jones .there is an other countrysong of the same title by C. Louving. Thanks for sharing ...F
Randys voice always reminds me of playing around out in my grandpas pole barn. Since before I was born he always had a little radio out in the barn that was on 24/7. Always had country on. Such a great voice.
Tintamar5678 It reminds me of my Daddy's house, the big tree right next to the railroad tracks, and driving around in his old green Chevy truck. And wow, your comment made me tear up a little. Thank you. Music is more than just songs, isn't it? It's certain feelings, intangible and indescribable and sometimes all-encompassing, and it's memories and smells and feelings and even essences. It's amazing what hearing one song can do to a person.
+schradeya My dad used to listen to a radio station privately owned by a guy who played music from his collection of music cassettes and CDs. That music ranged from all the way back to the 1920s up to the 1970s. The station is dubbed "The Memories Station" because much of the music brought back many memories of my dad's time. It was very rare to hear an 80s tune on the station, but if you're lucky, it would be a country tune. Randy's tune "Forever and Ever Amen" was one of those tunes. It was one of the few times I enjoyed listening to music on the radio

This song has a lot of meaning to me. I just heard to played on WSM and it really spoke to my heart. BTW, WSM over the air and online is where real country music lives.
Thank you so much for being a true fan of my music, those lovely comments of yours went straight to my heart❤️. Well I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music 🎶❤️
I saw Randy in Savannah Ga when this was his hit back in the 80's, . He is such a talented singer with grace and glory. I pumped many a dimes in the juke box to hear this song. I loved him then and I love him now. We all have our evils - don't judge unless you want to be judged.
I usually don't say a lot about my emotions and I am a very private person, but I will make an exception in this case. Anyway, back in 2012 my wife walked out on me (long story) so obviously I was crushed because I am still talking about it to this day in 2020. Well there has not been one single day since then that I haven't thought about her a lot and how she is doing, nor has there been one day that has passed that I have not loved her. This song is a big reminder of where we are now because she has remarried and has children, but somehow it sooths me to listen to it over and over and over again. I only want her to be happy but I do miss her terribly and although I don't really feel like we will ever be together again; I have to hold on to that hope and our memories together because that's all I have left of us. Anyway my point is that this a great song just like most classic country, because they actually say something and are not just a snazzy beat with not much meaning like today's so called "country". Great song!!! Great singer!!!
i'm from the generation of so called new country which in my opinion has no right to be called country music its a total disgrace to all the great real country artists. George Jones said whos gonna fill their shoes well if i was him now id be turnin in my grave to the answer of that question . This is good REAL country!!! lets start a movement people bring back real Country!!!!!!
the promblem is the luke bryan flordia georlia line think they r rappers n call thier self country mfers burns my ass up not sure how old you are but glad to see im not the only one who thinks the same
The way this song starts --- just Randy's voice, acoustic guitar and bass, is just perfect. It would be a great song with an acoustic guitar as the only instrument.
am not sure this man's voice is a normal voiçe because his voice is extremely unbelievable and i have no a word to subscribe his voice maybe he's an alien not a human, his songs are also the most beautiful song you could ever listen... Mr Travis hope you're doing well
