Randy Travis has such a great voice that he could sing the phone book and it would be enjoyable. And when the song and story is this great it's pure magic!

I was badly burned in Dec of 2010 and realized how life can change in an instant for anyone, anywhere. I try and spread positiveness to people I meet, whether online or real life. We can only create good in our own little corners of our lives and hope it spreads. Thanks for this song. I had heard it before, but forgot about it.

The hooker's redemption is what the preacher leaves behind him when he went. As he was dying, so near to passing on that he could already see the promised land, he put his bible in her hands. Between this moment and the fact that her life was spared, she turns her life around, and eventually has a son, who she raises with faith, reading to him from the preacher's bible, which inspires him to become a preacher himself when he grows up. Thus, why the chorus goes from "Why there's not four of them, heaven only knows" to "Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know" once the tale of the narrator's pastor is made clear. There's not four because she was spared in order to be redeemed and raise a son to carry on the preacher's legacy. (So eventually, that will be part of what she leaves behind as her own legacy. That fateful midnight bus ride changed the course of her life at the same time as it ended the other three.)

All across here in Canada there are many wooden Crosses along the Trans Canada highway for people who have died in car crashes, bus crashes, motorcycls and etc.

The farmer left his harvest. The teacher left her wisdom. The preacher left his bible for the hooker who survived. The preacher who is narrating the whole story says that his mother was the hooker who survived.

Lj Lj The preacher wasn't narrating the story. It was one of the congregation. "That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday as he held that Bible up for all of us to see."

If you liked this song by Randy Travis you should listen to Randy Travis's "Angel's". A word of warning, I'm a singer and every time I've performed precise his song I've seen some of the strongest, toughest men I've ever known break down in tears!

Yes! Great song great video. Wanted to make sure everyone understands, 3 crosses bc 3 died. ‘Heaven only knows’ and ‘I guess we know’ are bc it reveals the hooker did not die. The preacher gave her his blood stained Bible right before he died. (He left behind) She, the hooker, read that Bible to her son who is now a preacher

Can you do a Tammy Wynette gospel song review? She released an album of traditional Christian hymns titled "Inspiration" in April 1969 (I have a copy of the vinyl album that I bought on Amazon a couple years ago). She sings in the traditional, simple country style of that era, with an incredible youthful, silvery tone to her voice, and it really brings you back to the 60's to understand how the singing was done back then in the age before all the technology that we have today. In America she is considered one of the best female country singers ever. She passed away in 1998.
