In this Range Report I get to shoot and review the Tavor X95 bullpup rifle from Israel Weapons Industries. This is the civilian version of the standard infantry rifle of the IDF. Like many bullpups this rifle has pros and cons that go along with the design. This is a firearm designed for harsh conditions and is supposed to be very reliable. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this firearm. Yours may vary.

you really have to add the geissele lightning bow trigger at a minimum. it changes the entire shooting experience. adding the sabra trigger pack is the chef's kiss. the mag release has been the only failure point for me

I have the previous version, SAR 16, I like its mag release better.

A very fair review! I have one and like it. IF someone is thoroughly used to conventional rifles, there will be issues. One factor for the length of pull is that the overall length is set by law, plus the space required for the rifle to function. That is why it has that thick buttpad--a feature for American rifles that keeps the rifle from being an SBR. You are likely getting gassed by leakage from around the ejection port cover on the left side; which would be the ejection port in a left-hand configuration. There are aftermarket covers that seal the gaps, or you can squeeze some sort of goop in there and the rear end of the 1913 rail. The perceived recoil is most likely due to the relatively massive long-stroke bolt carrier combined with the rearward weight of the gun. That rear balance probably contributes to the widely scattered pattern of your rapid shots--little barrel weight to hold the muzzle on target. Try fast pairs sometime, just for grins. I really like my X95, but like you if I had to bail with ONE rifle, it would most likely be an AR.

I don't have problem with gasses but I plan to use silicone sealant to seal the gun. One negative I found is it unintuitive how to clear a malfunction.

The x95 is an ambi gun. The ejection port can be switched. probably the reason for the gassy-ness

A friend of mine has one and had a Geissele trigger installed in it. I haven’t shot it but I did get to dry fire it and was very impressed with how nice the trigger break and reset was. It’s unfortunate the gun is gassy. So much for running it suppressed.

Bah, not seeing my original comment anymore. I dislike YT's algorithm list of "dirty words" that cause comments to be auto deleted! Just wanted to say thanks for another bullpup review even though you don't like them 😂I think with regular training most disliked issues can be easily overcome since it's just muscle memory that needs to be worked in like in most platforms. I've been using bullpups off/on since 2010 and have never had or heard of a safety issue and regard it as more internet lore than reality. With that said, ARs are still overall king but bullpups have their place too.

If the original Tavor was gassy there was something not right about it. Even suppressed my Tavor SAR has no gas in my face at all. I can only think that the seal for the gas block wasn't oiled or seated properly in whatever Tavor SAR you shot.

As soon as you realize the trigger is less like a rifle and more like a pistol, most people's impression of the trigger changes.

@@thetexasgunvault Also, as far as the bolt catch/release, I think you're mistaking "ergonomic" at 11:19 with comfortable. We as Americans have trained extensively in the manual of arms of the AR platform. You even mention that in order to release the bolt you have to remove your hand from the firearm... which IS true, but I think you're forgetting context. WHY would you need release the bolt? If you're operating an AR, the bolt release is right there by the magazine well. SAME THING with the Tavor. Shooting hand releases the mag, left hand puts in new mag/releases the bolt as the release is right there. Sure the manual of arms is a little different on the x95, but it's similar to the AR in areas that matter most, and it's more so similar than other bullpups.
