Range Rover P38 # 056 - EAS Programming / Reading Codes

I've mentioned this software several times before, but I thought I'd give you guys a quick intro to what I use it for. Today I'll reprogram my green P38s height levels. Especially this "high" mode seems a bit too high and can potentially pop the airbags. This did happen to one of my rear ones during the test drive. Though the airbag was a few years old and a bit worn.
You can read and clear ccdes from the EAS (Electronic Air Suspension) CPU which is very handy for troubleshooting issues with the system.
Reprogramming all the four height settings are possible too.
You can also run the compressor (pump) manually and read each individual airbag sensor height as well as adjust it up and down in increments. The latter is useful for finding the correct values when setting the correct heights to be programmed.
I recommend you read the manual and guides from RSW for full details as I don't recall what all the features do and should be used.

Great video. Always like your work. I used to live in Nessodden so love your narration... I am just about to use this software to try and diagnose an intermittent (but regular) EAS fault where rear rises to wade height and the front drops to access/bump stops. There are no codes when the fault is not present. No leaks and have changed valve block. Will this software clear codes and allow a reset? If not any thoughts on other problem areas? Great video as always! I suspect have issues with one of my front height sensors, as it goes up/down randomly, its level is out of sync with the rest of the wheels and when I use this software to 'Get Heights', its value is usually 20% higher than the rest. Should I get the same values when reading heights, or this difference confirms my suspicion of the faulty sensor?

Hi, I'm helping my friend with his school project about remotely controlled air suspension height and I would like to ask you if you could share some of your knowledge and tell me what codes are you sending to OBDII to set the specific height (access, normal). What I see it's just simple serial communication through COM port? Thanks a lot.
@WorkOnP38
@WorkOnP38 4 года назад
Hi Rene. It is a serial communcation and if I recall correctly a 2 byte command is sent and a 2 byte response will be received. The exact details I don't have at hand, but if you study the Windows software (I believe the source code is available on github) you should be able to determine all the commands and responses you are looking for. The download is in the description. This link may also be of help: sourceforge.net/projects/easunlock/ Thanks for watching and good luck with the project!

Hi, if status is No Idle, What could be the problem? The cable it’s tested and is ok, but on rx the value is 80, if I read, for example, the heights, I see them, but with each reading, they change, and because of Rx? Thanks

Thanks for a great video. Would you know if an OBD2 to USB cable would work, or should it be OBD2 to RS232 and then RS232 to USB? :)

I bought the original cable with USB dangle and software I faced problem in good idle after I get green idle but when I write new values I get eas fualt slow to 55 kph. The fualt is "target hight incorrect". Now eas system totally not working. When I go to read the values again I find it changed to higher numbers.

Hi, thanks for watching. Glad you like the videos and that they can help someone. Yes, I'm from Norway. Nice to hear from Denmark. Been a while since I was there, but really like it. I might not be able to do the door switch fix before after the summer vacation.

Hi i have installed the software and it works great, i just want to know where to check the fault codes ie: fa 255, fc 17 etc.. Is there any list that tells you what these codes mean?
@WorkOnP38
@WorkOnP38 6 лет назад
Hi Joseph and thanks for watching. If you watch @3:40 and out you'll see how to check for faults. @5:20 you can see an error that has occured. The program will list the errors so don't worry about the F8, F9, FA, FB and FC code values, just check the list below for the actual errors. Good luck

@@WorkOnP38 i cant start thanking you for the help you are providing, i am addicted to and enjoy fixing my rr the same as you are, i recently changed my thermostat ( my rr is 4.6 thor bosch 99) the engine temp. on the old one was was dropping while driving downhill, the temp on the new one is stable but higher then the middle of the gauge (old thermostat stock, new is bearmach) is this normal or the new thermostat is faulty. Can i contact u over your email? In the future, i can offer help as well since i can offer guidance with p38 fixes if u require
@WorkOnP38
@WorkOnP38 6 лет назад
Hi Joseph. It depends on what the opening temperature of the thermostat is. I'm guessing the new one might be rated a bit higher temperature before opening. Maybe perhaps not 100% the correct one for your Thor. It at least sounds like the old one was stuck open from the symptoms. My email contact is in the description of all the videos, so feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching!

Hi, First of all, i would like to thank you about all detailed videos. They are perfect for rr owners. I download the software and made a cable but although tx is flooding, rx is just flood 10 digits below as not FF and stopped. As i checked cable is ok because when plug in and start the software lights on dash get normal. Dashboard lights turn to normal but idle is not appear on software... Any suggestions for it?

Supe videoer. Hilsen Per

@WorkOnP38 5 лет назад
Hello Tayyab. From what I understand it seems you probably have a petrol powered P38. I've not worked on those so I cannot provide much help I'm afraid. Mine are diesels. However the firing order should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 according to the workshop manual for both the 4.0 and 4.6. Left bank being 1-3-5-7, and the right bank 2-4-6-8. I assume you have the workshop manual so this is probably not news to you. Have you check the crank signal and so on to make sure all sensors are giving the ECU the correct signals to enable it to start? Thanks for watching. Sounds like an interesting project!

Hi, did find the problem, one time my 2001 range rover won't started and was the crank shaft position sensor, and another time, it was reading a missing fire on cylinder 2 ...and was one of the ignition coil, now, my odometer cluster is not reading noting in the mileage spot only...everything else it is reading fine,
