Hello Ben. I had exactly the same smokey surprise when I had just purchased my VW Multivan 2.5 HiLine which has Webasto heater. Scared the shit out of me, the first time I drove it on a cold day. BTW, I live about one and a half hours drive west of you, near Cognac. I found your channel because I was searching for Range Rover L322 3.6 in France. I’m currently searching for a low mileage 3.6 without much luck so far. May have to import from Germany. Good luck to you. Enjoying the channel.

We used to live over that way (Baignes-Sainte-Radegonde). Yes low mileage ones are hard to find and when you do find one they are pretty expensive here in France.

Originally I only wanted the EGR's deleting, but it was the same price for a re-map and delete, and I figured I don't drive the car hard so wasn't too worried about putting extra strain on the gearbox or drive train. It made a massive improvement to it's drive-ability.

I'm interested to know if there's a French equivalent to the annual mot and if so, do they carry out any form of emissions test.. would your EGR work affect this in any way both in France or here in the U.K.? What happened to the lettering on the bonnet? Chris

Second person to notice the bonnet letters! It didn’t have them when we bought the car but I do plan to replace them. Yes we have a control technique (French mot) which is every two years. I don’t think that the egr valves will make much difference when it comes to emissions.

I’ve not worked out the exact mpg but the range that it shows for a full tank of fuel has gone from 550-600kms to 850kms. I know that’s not accurate but we don’t do enough mileage in it to do a proper check.

hi ben. Ive got a 4.4 tdv8 2012 .. nay i ask does deleting the egr not mess up the dpf as ive had mine remapped and not noticed any difference also i still get loads of lag when pressing the pedal ??.. keep all the great vids coming ive learned alot cheers

I’ve heard that it’s best not to delete the egr if the car has a dpf. If you have noticed no difference after a remap, something isn’t right. Mine was night and day different.

@@Bensgarage yea mate thats what i figured so ill leave that part alone as for remap sadly zero change. Just watched your vid on changing the intercooler pipes again..lol..so think ill go check them and see if any issues there. If not no idea thanks again ben appreciate your reply cheers

Hi, mines in for the ERG delete and remap in December. Just wondering what difference the remap has made to your average MPG?

Can easily achieve 30mpg with normal driving. Drops a bit if you get the boot in.

Robert Colliver they quoted €300 to delete the egrs and then it was the same price for a remap as well. Definitely runs a lot better, revs more freely and has plenty of punch when needed. Hoping for better fuel economy when the novelty has worn off.

Blanking kit was from eBay and the remap and egr delete was from a local garage that do reaps for quantum tuning.

There isn't road tax as such, you pay when you first register your car and depending on the CO2 depends the amount you pay. The higher the co2 the more you pay. For our TDV8 when we bought it it cost about €900, but that is registration costs and the tax for higher emissions car. Having said that it is a one off payment, some newer cars will incur a charge of about €160 a year for emissions tax if emissions are high. I am exempt from the yearly tax (€160) due to being disabled.

did you delete the dpf also or are you planning to replace the engine when they get blocked ?. egr needs cleaning like in every diesel its not a problem you just clean it

Mine doesn’t have a dpf so don’t have to worry about that.

All vehicle manufacturers had completely complied with the legislation on new car designs by the end of 2010, although some legacy vehicles using engines designed prior to DPF’s becoming mandatory were allowed to continue to fit them on some production runs until 2011. It seems I have one of those weird in between cars. It’s a 2010, still with the 3.6 TDV8 and the one year that didn’t get brembo brakes. But I’ll take the hit on the brakes as it doesn’t have a dpf which would more than likely cause more problems.

Not sure about gains, as we had the car remapped at the same time, so any gains might have come from that. But it runs clean, went straight through the emissions test with hardly any smoke.

Iv just got one and found oil around the intake to the frottle body doing a good clean and new pipe but what would cause that. Egr valve?

Yes it has, before we would get an average of around 25-26mpg on a run and driven normally, now we can get just over 30mpg on a run. Just have to be careful not to excercise the extra horses as it’s easy to do and will affect mpg the other way.

Yes, a big improvement, on a run I can get between 31-35mpg, goes down a bit in traffic etc.

The garage that did it charged 430€ for the remap and egr delete and also the pyshical blanking of the egrs.

why do you need to know mpg ? YOU FILL AT THE PUMP IN LITERS AND DRIVE KILOMETERS , you drive 100km with a number of liters used for those 100km , its simple

Yes being metric we use ltrs/km but it just seems that most people understand mpg and can’t get their heads around the metric way.

Yes I really don’t understand why they hate the metric system. Even NASA use metric as it’s more accurate.
