Great video, might be wise to have the transmission fluid / fliter changed yearly, the TQ will thank you for it, all that torque generates a lot of heat, and it can start to boil & burn the fluid, really shortening the life of the bands, solenoids, o ring's.

ZF gearbox doesn’t have bands. It’s a series of clutch packs and planetary gear sets.

I have one of those Range Rovers. The transmission is an 8HP70, which is rated at 700nm torque maximum. I'd be nervous about chipping it when it's already operating at the specified maximum... But the lag is a bit annoying so ditching that would be useful.

The SDV6 has 700nm so why does the V8 only have 40 more?? Surely that should be close to 850nm!!!!

@@ProfessorGearchange Thanks for your reply. You’d think that Land Rover would utilise a stronger trans for the higher end SDV8 powertrains. I love the SDV6 but you cant beat a V8. I drive a 4.2TDI Q7 and that has 760Nm so both surprised in the SDV6 torque figures and disappointed in the SDV8 for being limited by the trans.

@@jkclassy3643 I am guessing the reason. I suppose another reason might be to keep the performance of the Diesel V8 less than the petrol V8 which costs a lot more. There are versions of that 8 speed ZF transmission that will take more torque, so LR could have chosen one of those if they had increased the power output of the engine.

Isnt the idea behind one turbo bigger than the other so that the power delivery is much smoother and linear? If you had two large turbos there'd be a huge amount of turbo lag; two small turbos and it'd run out of boost too early and the power would flat-line. In this case as the small turbo is topping out the larger turbo is taking over

So Tom, or Thomas, (whichever you prefer) what should I do. I’m 21 and have been saving like a madman for years from work and am an Audi fanatic. Should I splash the cash on an 18/19 plate RS3 and get a meh house. Or stick with my first car (polo) and get a decent house?

Dyno Dynamics. Here in America that dyno is known as the😿 heartbreaker. Some dynos fluff the numbers for bragging rights, but this one gives the truest power numbers. Great shop owner aswell.

Andrew Norris there would be no “progress” from the pre-facelift to the new model If car company’s made the best possible car they can with today’s technology, there would be nothing in the “new” cars to come in the future that would be better

Probably they play it safe to consider poor/indifferent servicing, differing regions, differing fuel standards/quality and probably warranty repairs. These tunes require owners to be more diligent about all of this, but does nibble away the built in margins (if any)
