From the 1990s to late 2010s a tractor train, being a carriage hauled by a tractor, took tourists up to the summit of Rangitoto Island, viewing the bare jagged rock land surface with no soil. After walking to the viewing platform to enjoy 360deg panoramic views, the train would carry on down the west side of the island to meet the coast, then carry on back to the start point.
