Thank you for acknowledging the 30 Seconds to Mars self titled! The Bob Ezrin production and space rock vibe of that album is great imo and it’s a real bummer that they (Jared, Shanon kinda seems just there now) never acknowledge it.

I got to see them live when they toured with Chevelle. It was nothing short of electric. Met Jared in an unsurprising way and he was so cool and down to earth. We shared a beer. Idk wtf they are now but it reminds me of apple commercials. The most vapid lyrics imaginable.
@kcjc

I’ve heard nothing but great stuff about their early 2000s gigs. And yeah idk what happened either, vapid is a good word to describe the result though. Jared won his Oscar and things began to slip.

A couple years ago I used to be OBSESSED with PATD but once I got to high school they just didnt hit the same. And no, my problem wasnt the Brendon Urie accusations, but the emotional attatchment I once had to their music just wasnt trally there anymore.

I remember Stand Atlantic and Waterparks first came out with debut albums and you were all for them. I can easily remember those days. I’m not surprised you outgrew them, though. Their new material has been lackluster and somewhat cringe. As for Thirty Seconds to Mars, their self - titled debut still remains as one of my favorites from them. A front to back record.

My favorite 30STM song is the one where he says "it's Morbin time" But in all seriousness, the band I've most outgrown in the past decade is easily Imagine Dragons. Loved their first and second albums as an early teen, and now they're... well, we all know what they are now. Pure grocery store mom rock.

Staind is the number 1 band i outgrew.... i LOVED THEM when i first heard them in 99', i even like the "break the cycle" album, but i remember them coming on the radio back in 2014, and i was like "how in the hell did i ever listen to this?!?"

Artists I have outgrown: Avril Lavigne (Still love Let Go and Under My Skin) Escape The Fate (I still love Dying Is Your Latest Fashion and will defend some of the Craig Mabbitt era albums from This War Is Ours to Hate Me) Stand Atlantic (Skinny Dipping and Pink Elephant still slap. I prefer Yours Truly when it comes to Modern Australian Pop Punk as a person who lives there) Three Days Grace (Still like the Adam Gontier era) Bon Jovi (80s and 90s material still slap) Smash Mouth (I still like Fush Yu Mang, Astro Lounge and the self-titled album. R.I.P Steve Harwell) Papa Roach (I still like their 00s material and some stuff Post Face Everything and Rise) Almost every 00s Pop Rock artist who went Pop in the 2010s Journey (Still like the Steve Perry era and that era is complete legendary)

You know why I love My Chemical Romance so much? Because even after almost a DECADE of not being together, their latest single still slaps. It still feels authentic. It's not whiny emo pop. It's real rock, written from a grown man's perspective.

Plus unlike most of their peers MCR wrote concept albums, didn't whine about about how much their life sucks by writing incel anthems about how much they hate their ex-girlfriends and didn't prey on their younger fans.
@wozaow
@wozaow 8 месяцев назад
If you listen to each member's solo (or non-MCR) projects, they've all been doing very different things. Gerard has done very poppy stuff, Ray doing a lot of production, Mikey doing indie-ish things, and Frank doing all kinds of stuff (digital hardcore, actual hardcore, punk, alternative rock). I think that's a reason why it's so good, they haven't just been regurgitating the same things MCR was doing in the 2000s. They've been doing whatever they feel like making, and they came back very experienced.

It’s funny because I’ve definitely outgrown the music they’re primarily known for, but I’ve had their latest album on repeat. It’s so refreshing to see them not fall into the “legacy act” that so many bands fall into later in their career.

Bands I still follow: Stand Atlantic, Halestorm, Waterparks, Seether Bands I like the early work of: 30 Seconds to Mars, New Found Glory, Simple Plan Bands I jump off at around the mid-point of their discography: Muse, Red, Metallica(?) Bands I dig a handful of songs by but would not call myself big on: Grouplove, The Black Keys Bands I can safely say I outgrew: Good Charlotte The rest of the bands I either have never heard of, don't have a strong opinion on, or never really liked in the first place.

You do get a different taste in music as you grow older. And even if you still love a band, you might just have a few songs still in rotation. Having a whole album is rare, but the few I still do from your list are GC's "Good Morning Revival" and 30STM's "This Is War". Loved the video and I hope we get more like this!

I feel like there's a difference between "growing out of a band" and "not liking their new stuff." I feel like "growing out" conveys that you're not really into any of their work, while you could still say you really like a band, Muse for example, but aren't into their later work. I feel that way about Coldplay, I love Parachutes through X&Y and Viva La Vida is alright. After that their music hasn't done a whole lot for me, but I still say I like Coldplay.

As much as it pains me to admit it, I think Twenty One Pilots are the biggest band that I have musically outgrown. Not that I hate their music now or anything, but as I've grown older their stuff just doesn't quite hit as hard as it did when I was like 16. That and me feeling kinda "meh" on their last album Scaled and Icy really have made me naturally just not really listen to these guys as much anymore. Trench still absolutely slaps though, I will admit.

I can relate to that to some degree. I definitely don’t view it as the pinnacle of art anymore like I did when I was younger, but I still enjoy listening to their albums for the nostalgia, with every album having some songs that I think hold up (like “Trapdoor” on self-titled, “Hometown” on Blurryface, and “Redecorate”). And Trench is obviously still near-perfect as it was then. They peaked with Jumpsuit.

I still actually love Hollywood Undead, but for me it is more due to where I was at in my life at the time, and the great memories contained there. Oh man, you have 311 here... one of my favorite bands. Well you did place them pretty high, and i do get the criticisms if it's not that much your style. I just happen to like that extremely 90s sound so much i can't help but love them, and they have played a huge part in my musical journey through different genres. I just love reggae, funk, rapcore, all that stuff. Even if i'm kind of a diehard, i do think they haven't been that great after Evolver, and i'm not an obsessed fan like i once was. Grassroots and Transistor are still all time classics in my book, and their whole 90s era up to 2001 is top notch.

I recently went to the Offspring/Simple Plan/Sum 41 tour, mostly for Sum 41 who are sadly hanging up their boots. I wasn't a Simple Plan fan going in and I certainly wasn't going out. It was a miserable slog getting through their set (which included the What's New Scooby-Doo theme and covers of All Star, Sk8ter Boi, and Mr. Brightside)

I agree with most of this. Only recently got into NFG from random pop punk playlists on spotify. They had better riffs than I thought and im into covers so it works. I was never into GC or Simple Plan tho. I was more of a Nu metal kid so my favorite pop punk band was Sum 41. If i had to make a small list of bands I outgrew: Slipknot (started learning bass and realized I had no desire to play this kind of music; started to prefer bands with less members) Atreyu (Absolutely loved their first 2 albums; fond memories listening to The Curse and playing Phantasy Star Online 2 with my brother. They were dogshit live tho and I didnt like their direction afterwards) Three Days Grace (Really liked the first album; saw them at 3 different festivals in 06-07; They were bad each time. Was very disappointing) Disturbed. (I loved them in high school. But Believe was my favorite album of theirs and I wasnt as into the followup and got kinda overloaded with Land of Confusion and Sound of Silence being everywhere. Believe is still hella underrated tho.) Blink and Green Day (they have a lot of filler tracks so I barely listened to them since high-school) Tool (not being on streaming services for so long killed my interest) Metallica (same as above)

This could have possibly qualified as "Tears on Tuesday", lol. My opinions on your choices can all be reduced to one of two possibilities: I agree completely, and I've never heard of them. There were two nominees that especially resonated with me, however. 'Load' was the album when I was forced to admit to myself that I didn't like Metallica; ultimately a very freeing experience. I do understand why people like them though. And the explosion of the quirky folk-rock bands around 2010, best illustrated by Mumford and Sons, and The Lumineers. I don't think I have ever consciously chosen to listen to either band's music, but it was the sound of the shopping mall, so there wasn't any need. I think a couple of bands of that era have survived with dignity, though. I'm still very fond of the first Fleet Foxes record, and the first two or three records by Band of Horses.

311 is an interesting band for me, I was aware of them since their debut in the mid 90's and kinda got into them on and off until From Chaos came out and was hooked to them, but never bought anything after that... not even their greatest hits until probably more than a decade later. I always did admire 311 for their mix of punk, alternative, rap, reggae, ska, funk into one style but it's that old saying... jack of all trades, master of none... even during the NU-metal days, they were growing into irrelevancy of the harder styles and they coasted off reggae pop ballad style than their heavier style.

I miss when Stand Atlantic was making pure pop punk, their debut EP and first album were SO good. It seems like maybe their label is taking a bit too much control because the shift in their visual style seems a bit forced, and I have to assume that extends to the music as well. I just hope they can go back to what made them great because their early stuff felt like it was breathing new life back into pop punk, and not just in a way that was following the vapid revival of the last few years

I find Alt-J's The Dream quite good. I listen to that one and An Awesome Wave all the time still.

GROUPLOVE is kinda of sad case for me. I remember hearing some of their earlier songs and really enjoying them. But I listened to their most recent album and was just kinda bored by it. A shame because they had so much potential in the beginning. Even though I’ve mostly grown out of pop punk, I still have a soft spot for New Found Glory’s music. They were one of the first bands to get me into the sub-genre and I’ll always take them over Simple Plan. Never thought they were one of my favorites, but their album Coming Home is easily the best thing they’ve done and I wished they made more records like that.

Ah, you actually got me into Waterparks :'3 And yeah, def agree, love Double Dare, and the new direction just wasn't for me. Which is fine, but also, I feel like Awsten definitely should have taken a long break from twitter at some point.

Wow, i forgot the fall from grace with 30 STM is comparable to that of Maroon 5. Similarly, both bands were pretty damn legit in the mid 00s with their debuts... Not albums i wanted to buy but they had songs i would always gladly listen to if on radio or MTV.

Nothing But Thieves for me. The debut album is a classic and Broken Machine was an excellent follow up. Everything since then has been mostly lackluster with the most recent album being absolute trash disco pop. Nothing left of that incredible atmosphere the first album had.

aw man i think the most recent album is absolutely class. i only got into them when the lead single dropped so maybe it’s recency bias.

I would say Metallica and sadly Florence and the Machine I outgrew myself. I still adore a good deal of their work but don’t listen to them as much anymore. Also artist wise, I would say Harry Styles I grew out of.

I've always been a huge Simple Plan fan and probably always will be BUT I do get very annoyed at their songwriting. So now I go into their music as "is this catchy and fun?" If so, I like it. I can't relate to their lyrics 97% of the time but dammit do I have fun listening to them! They know how to put a hook together and not just for a chorus. They continuously have fun verses also. So I will stick by them but will criticize their lyrics.

Metallica is my all time favorite band. Halestorm fan as well. I can still vibe with Seether but you could say I’ve outgrew them to some extent. The rest of the bands I’ve never been huge on although some have a couple songs I like.

If you asked me my senior year of high school, I would have said Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace were my favorite bands. Phobia and One-X were literally on repeat in my car that year. I realized a few years later that they're really repetitive and never really evolved. I can listen to and enjoy some of their older songs now, but mostly skip the new material, especially for Three Days Grace.
