I did some digging on this one and found that an awful lot of my favourite bands really hit their stride on album 3. However in regards to this video six come to mind for me: 1: Candy-O from the Cars 2: Doolittle from the Pixies 3: Talk Talk Talk from the Psychedelic Furs 4: Reckoning from R.E.M. 5: Toulouse Street from The Doobie Brothers 6: Electric Version from the New Pornographers

Laura Nyro - Eli & the 13th Confession, Doors - Strange Days, My Bloody Valentine - Loveless, Radiohead - The Bends, Motorhead - Overkill, VU - White Light/White Heat, Midnight Oil - Head Injuries, Concrete Blonde - Free, PJ Harvey - Rid of Me, Fairport Convention - What We Did On Our Holidays.

"Give 'Em Enough Rope" is actually my favorite Clash album. It is so underrated. Bridges the gap between the straight-forward punk of the debut and the wide-ranging London Calling. And "More Songs About Buildings And Food" is my favorite Talking Heads album. Huh, I guess that means... something, haha. "Bayou Country" is great, but freakin' "Graveyard Train" just DRAGS, haha. I laughed when you mentioned that. My father and I are also big fans of "Keep On Chooglin'" and "Ramble Tamble."

I wouldn't be able to rank all of these albums, but here's my top 5 of these: 5) CCR - Bayou Country 4) Paul McCartney - Ram 3) Black Sabbath - Paranoid 2) Elvis Costello - This Year's Model 1) Led Zeppelin - II As far as disappointing albums, the biggest disappointing 2nd album I ever heard was the Stone Roses 2nd album, "Second Coming." I disliked it so much at the time, it felt like betrayal. But that album was released in a time when a lot of albums disappointed me, like U2's "Zooropa" and "Pop," Elvis Costello's "Kojak Variety," Nirvana's "In Utero," and REM's "Monster."

I do believe that is Paul Simon’s 3rd solo album. 1965 The Paul Simon Songbook then self titled in 1972! 😳

The Moody Blues - Days of Future Past, With The Beatles, America - Home Coming, Blackfield 2 and Bread - On The Waters are all great 2nd albums.

Great video and good ranking. The Grand funk red album is better than the first album but as you say and I agree that never the lest it's very good also. Being a bass player and looking up to Mel as being very influential and I find he really stands out on the red album. 😎👍

Ram''s a great album Larry,possibly number one or two for me and definitely top five,a super underrated album. Bob

Yes yes yeeesss RAM ❤ The second best of all that exist ( for me) After Venus and Mars It's a truly amazing masterpiece ( again , for me)

I think Paul’s Ram is his best solo album overall

Yeah Led Zeppelin II, Black Sabbath’s Paranoid, Paul Simon’s There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, The Clash’s Give ‘Em Enough Rope, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Bayou Country, Queen II, The Doors’ Strange Days, and Paul McCartney’s Ram are all great. Ram is definitely my favorite album by Paul. 👍

Adam and the Ants "Kings of the Wold Frontier". A totally different band from the debut album.

Cool subject. Enjoyed the video. As Always. I also gave this a thought and came up with this: Night Ranger "Midnight Madness" beats their debut "Dawn Patrol". "Touch of Madness" is awesome! Judas Priest "Sad Wings Of Destiny" clearly wins over "Rocka Rolla". Aerosmith "Get Your Wings" is pretty good, much better than their self titled debut. It's very even between Ozzy Osbourne´s "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman" but the later one is definitely a killer! Finally I want to mention Bad Company "Straight Shooter". An album loaded with classic tracks. The self titled debut released one year earlier wasn't nearly as good.

Hard to beat those first few Blue Oyster, sabbath, zeppelin and Ccr albums!

I really enjoy Transformer from Lou Reed. But it’s actually my least favorite of his first 4 albums.

My favourite second album of all time is Jethro Tull - Stand Up. Good on you for always praising BOC. As brilliant as Tyranny & Mutation is, it still wouldn't make my top 5 Blue Oyster Cult albums. In fact and this will make you feel good, I would also put Ram at number 1. Paul McCartney really is THE G.O.A.T.

When I first saw the title Queen II immediately came to mind. Queen II is not a tad better than Queen, it's light years better. Arguably it's Queen's best album, although I would put Night at the Opera ahead of Queen II. Queen II should be number one on your list IMHO. A couple of other strong sophomore efforts; Van Halen II, Cars - Candy O, Foreigner- Double Vision. Ram is so overrated. it's weaker than both Band on the Run and Venus and Mars and I would put McCartney over Ram.

Disappointing second albums? Difficult. Never liked Fleetwood Mac's Mr. Wonderful, between the debut and Then Play On, it's on the weak side. That's the only one I can think of.
