Ranking ALL 3D MVs in Project Sekai (3rd Anniversary) 

Howdy! I've gotten a couple people asking about my thoughts on the new versions of some old MVs we got with the 3rd Anniversary. And I figured it'd be easiest to just make my thoughts the pinned comment here! The new lights were exciting, but honestly I preferred the original versions for most of them. ID smile was nice, but the most exciting part was seeing Meiko in her actual Sekai outfit fully modeled. For Tondemo Wonderz and If the lights were too bright and were blown out. Cinema was good just because they weren't in the bad outfits anymore lol. And Deep Sea Lily was nice enough but I was distracted with how the girls' faces weren't allowed to have shadows on them apparently, so it looked kinda weird.

Ahhhh, In the 3dmv Luka is also used as a representation of her mother. When Mafuyu reaches out towards Kanade and Mizuki, Luka allows her. Mizuki representing running away (which is what Mafuyu does, which ties in to the scissors in Mizuki's three star jackpot card, the same being the ones Mafuyu holds in her Engeki card.) Kanade represents being complacent, and Luka comes between Ena and Mafuyu as Ena represents just fully defying her mother. Another thing is that at the very end of the song, Snow falls around the girls. Mafuyu's Nightcord name is Yuki which means snow.

I adore the idea of Emu and Rui buying a green screen and just going nuts with the visuals. Ngl that thought makes me love the mv. Loved the video!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CHILDISH WAR PLACING OMG I hear so many people hating on this song that it’s kind of daunting for me to even say that I like the MV. It’s such a fun, energetic 3DMV that evokes the original MV while also doing some really cool things as well with the inclusion of Nene and Tsukasa creating two duos of siblings. Everyone’s interactions with one another are so in-line with the song, and it all just feels so cohesive. Also Engeki and Kashika at the top is so real, thank you for your service. Also, I’ll be the first person to say that I hate a lot of things about All I Need Are Things I Like, but the part where the UFO appears above them and spirits them into space is just so funny that it makes me burst into laughter every time. Even some of the “worst” MVs do have enjoyable, fun parts to them, I’d say.

I think this all the time, but they should try putting each girl in the center for Leo/Need. Yes, Ichika is the main singer, but come on. Honami playing the drums in the middle while the others play surrounding her?? Mwah perfection. Something Cowbow mouth does since the lead singer is also the drummer. Having Saki actually center for the music she sings, imagine like how they do Ikanaide. Shiho has great freaking focus songs. I am still upset that [1] didnt get a 3dmv but whatever but Voices??? Shiho is great in it for sure but if she had centered I'm 100% convinced they could've done more with the mv. Anyways rant over for leo/need.

I feel like we need some individual MVs with each of the kids like with the VS I just need an Ultimate Senpai cover from wondasho for Tsukasa give me it goddammit

I love how high Nightcord choreos are. I find myself coming back to watching their newer 3DMVs instead of just listening to the music, because of how much they pack into the dances, they really stepped up with them.

“Okay, you agree with me on Engeki, so what the hell did you put in the top- oh, no, actually, you’re right. Yeah, you’re right.” I didn’t even realize most of the things you mentioned about Kashika. But you’re right about all of it.

11:50, I'm pretty sure Saki and Airi are friends! They met during the second valentine's day event, operation secret valentine, but I'm pretty sure that that's not what it's referencing. Maybe it's meant to be Minori?

30:28 for non-breath oblige id like to note that when they sing the "our complexes" part they all do a pose reflecting their story so kanade holds her ears like headphones ena holds her hand up like she is painting mafuyu hold her hands out like handcuffs and mizuki hugs themselves embracing their identity

If Twiins keeps talking about vocaloid groups I'll probably someday remember their names. For now I just enjoy hearing someone speak about something they are passionate about. also 6:23 goodness the Tv series of DHMIS was funny. "I made it myself.... on the COMPUTER" That intonation of the Duck just fills me with joy.

I don't play Project Sekai, I cant play any rhythm game to save my life, but I think that the LeoNEED 3D videos could be improved if they focused on how they play their instraments. To clarify i mean i want to see close ups of how these girls see strum their guitars, and the emotions that they feel when they go off so to speak. Basically what I'm saying is that it would help if they infused the performances with the same life that the dancers have.

OH MY GODDDDD YOU ARE SO BASED FOR PUTTING KASHIKA FIRST!!! THE FIRST TIME I WATCHED THE MV I LITERALLY STARTED TEARING UP, LIKE ITS SO EMOTION PROVOKING. I FREAKING LOVE THE LIGHTING AND REPRESENTATION SO MUCH IN AKITO’S STORY AND THE DANCE MOVES AND EVERYTHING I COULD NOT STOPP BLABBING TO MY FRIENDS ABOUT ITTT. ok stopping with the all caps now but it’s amazing how you’re so observant?? I’m pretty observant myself but it’s so cool how you manage to catch some of the smaller details that I also relate to cherishing. I also agree so much that the nightcord mvs DEFINITELY improved (not that I didn’t love them already) but pjsk overall has come very far in their use of special effects and productions of their music videos. I think the only ranking comment I have addresses Hakoniwa no coral, I can see why you put it lower, the motion is a bit awkward but that doesn’t bring it down too much for me. To me, I enjoy how the music video kind of takes its time and has all the members giving all their emotions, as well as the final spotlight’s representation (this is my theory), as it shows nene reminiscing on her experiences with the troupe and how much she grew and improved in herself. Maybe it’s just a bias lol, but watching the mv and the movements pulled on my heartstrings with how they matched the vocals. I love project sekai dearly, as a fan for 1 3/4 yrs, and the music videos and characters are just one of the aspects I adore. I understand that they won’t make everyone happy and some things that I think are amazing may not be seen the same way by others, but I truly find so much happiness and enjoyment in this game. Just want to end this by saying I love your content, your commentary is genuinely well written, your editing style is great and the way you explain and pace everything is fantastic too. Your opinions are based and thank you for the in depth video ^-^ that’s all I have to say for now

The upload made me so happy, I didn't expect anything like this in the slightest. I agreed with most of your takes, maybe I would just put Garden's Coral highest, just for the transision to the other stage they did with Nene pointing towards the sky, that suddenly changes into a celiing when it's least expected. The top 3 should be arranged a bit differently in my opinion, being: 1 - Engeki, 2 - Karakuri Pierrot, 3 - Kashika, but it probably is just personal preference, which figures. Girl, don't listen to people who hate on your pronunciation - even though it has some flaws it's so good you try your best and it just sounds so adorable Thank you so much for updating the tier list, can't wait for the next year's verison.

The way that Akito and Touya join in the girls dancing after a few moments just hooked me in immediately. I could listen to you ranting about this god damn mv for hours, not gonna lie

i actually really like the ‘all i need are things i like’ MV a lot because i think it perfectly captures the silliness of the Emu and Rui pairing. Yes, it looks like they just gave them a video editing software and green screen, but that’s what makes it fun. I like to think Rui gave Emu his computer and video editing software and Emu just went ham on it. Yes, there may be a lot going on, but in my opinion, the song and MV matches their personalities well and i am looking forward to more duets with them in the future. (I may be biased because they are my favorites but shhh)

It’s so interesting just how different my list ended up being and I think it really goes to show just how good the MVs have been this year. My number 1 was actually zamsa. While you mentioned kaito being a conductor there’s also such a big emphasis on how….disruptive he is in the MV. He doesn’t show up with the rest of the cast, we have a close up shot of kanade since she’s the focus and it’s centred around her emotions and then BOOM. Kaito. Which really reflects the story so much as he comes into the story pissed as hell, insults everyone even if it’s for their own sake’s and then leaves. I think on a technical aspect is was also the first MV where I cared about the background effects as the white background turning into cubes and then into the background set was really interesting.

kashika is my very favorite song in the game, and as the video progressed, i was starting to think maybe you'd forgotten to put it in because i never really see people appreciate the song or the mv very much and i figured it wouldn't be ranked super high-- so i was super surprised and excited to see you'd ranked it #1! it's nice to know someone else loves it as much as i do :D

amazing video as always! i love your take on engeki and kashika and i agree they're just soooososo good aaaah!!! to add a lil comment but personally i would rank kaisei higher, because it had such a 2000s rock MV vibe with the camera shifting from location to location while showing the characters playing their instruments and i think the song was trying to go for that kind of feel and it's my favorite orangestar cover for prsk to date!! and also zamza too! i think it belongs in the top 10 because of how incredibly well done the choreo and storytelling is done in that song, from the music to the dancing but i'm happy that it's right behind non-breath oblige and engeki! 25ji had such a banger year and i'm glad to see them ranking high this time

Hi this is me rewatching this video for like what the third time because I have a hyperfixation :D Just wanted to put it out there right now: if you're gonna be doing another video like this this year then I can't wait to hear what you think of Regulus because that just might be my favorite Leo/need MV since it's so different from what we usually get: the positions are rearranged, they made Honami the only stale one in the center and allowed Saki to move, there was a bunch of personality with small moments from the girls and it's also the first time they're playing with Kaito too!! While it's still not perfect I'm just curious to know what you think about it :D it really feels like they listened to your rankings and just went "okay, then how about we make a REALLY GOOD Leo/need 3DMV?" aaaaa i really like Regulus

Love the video, as always :D Big fan of the in-between clips. The DHMS clip was utter gold. Maybe you could make a full video of just clips like that one day, I personally would absolutely watch it again and again and never get tired of it lol I've never heard the song be called "Miniature garden's coral" before. I always thought it was "coral in a box"? K I just looked it up and idk anymore, I don't think the fandom has decided on a certain translation :') YESSS KASHIKAAA I swear everyone forgot about it but I love it so much, so happy it's ranked so high. Same for Theatre, love them both so so much. Want to add something to Kashika here. It translates to "Suspended Animation", which is a process used during surgeries to prevent blood loss by rapidly cooling down the brain to prevent blood loss. Once the operation is complete, they are warmed back up to normal temperature. This is shown with the switch in lighting and effects, from more desaturated colours (cold) to the fire effects (warming up). I love it, it's so cool. It just makes the song so much better than it already is. Also, just want to say sorry again about my previous comment. I don't know if you saw my reply since I think you deleted the comment, but I just want to apologise again for hurting your feelings. It wasn't my intention whatsoever, I had thought at the time that it would simply be a lighthearted joke, but it clearly didn't come off as that and I'm sorry for that. I won't be poking any fun like that again.

Ah! I was super excited for this! Your video for the 2nd anniversary made me really get into the game! I only knew some of the older Vocaloid stuff, so the list helped me revisit/explore all the bangers and the groups covering them! Fell in love with the characters and I've been neck deep in the fandom since lol. This was great and funny af like always!

I personally love all I need are things I like, but I understand the criticism. I think that the chaotic green screen with absolutely no sense to it, ironically, makes sense considering the characters doing it (I can see Emu and Miku throwing as many effects as possible into the video while Rui watches, thinking its hilarious). They are the most chaotic members of the group, so it makes sense that their MV is precisely that. Also I fucking love the part where they turn around and go up into the UFO I burst into laughter or at least chuckle every time. But this being said, it could've definitely been better. I mentioned that it fits the characters in terms of the chaos and how I can see emu and miku throwing it together, with rui watching with a smile on his face, but it definitely could've used more control- rui is supposed to be the stage director- he would've noticed these effects were a little too much. I personally enjoy it, but I may have gotten my love of the characters into my head too much, and can agree that its. A little too chaotic with the effects. Then there's love ka? I'm.. honestly so disappointed in love ka. The mv, as you said, feels like it was supposed to be heading somewhere but got lost on the way. And the songs themselves aren't really supposed to be a part of the ranking, but I'm disappointed in that too. Rui and Tsukasa's lack lines. Rui at least has maybe three lines but tsukasa has. One. I think the boys' deeper voices could've sounded so nice with the song. Hell, I think the girls could've sounded nice with deeper voices for the song (they're always singing in the high register). I had so many expectations for love ka? When I saw it would be for wxs and was so. Sad when it actually came out. I wanted more from the boys. I wanted to see a wxs song that felt dark. And then we got this.

I have to disagree and place All I Need are Things I Like way high, the chaos and space vibes fit Emu and Rui's dynamic really well, and the effects being thrown at the wall remind me of Emu asking Rui what he can do and him complying happily to all her wacky ideas and overall i may have very big wxs bias but this was so silly and dear to me

I'm Mine's MV is so good, they all feel so professional compared to the sekai OCs dancing which they absolutely should, theyre all professional musicians!!!!

Kashika's MV has always struck me as different, though i could never really pin point what it was. And as such was my favorite in the game because its differences really made it stand out effectively. Your explanation clarified so much how its different. Best MV in the game for real.

Just found your videos and they're really interesting! I've never thought too much into what goes into the mvs and makes some stand out from the others, and the way you explain everything rlly gives me a new appreciation for them. Like, I just went back an watched a lot of the 3Dmvs talked about and it was really cool to actually see all the stuff you mentioned. Also, now I'm curious about your thoughts on the Filament Fever mv which came out more recently, because it's one of my current favorites, if not favorite WxS 3Dmv, and looking at it again it definitely plays into that theatre and acting aspect you talked about, like how at the beginning it seems like before the show where they're doing last minute prep, and then there's the part towards the end where they're fumbling when the stage lights shut off but are able to recover recover to close off the show. (Actually, I wonder if that's related to the event story, I haven't seen it yet). Sorry for rambling in ur comment section lmao and thanks for making the video!

I agree w most of ur takes here except for the placing of Kaisei because it's EVERYTHING TO ME -- like the backgrounds, lighting, camera angles, everything just fits the song and the lyrics of it so well (the cloud angle was kind of ugly but shhh). then again im a massive leo/need fan so theres that lmao

Kashika is so good, so happy to see it topping your list. Childish War was another of my favorites. The way Nene pushes Tsukasa back before doing that cheeky little bow during "hai hai hai hai onii-sama" is probably my top project sekai moments of year. I'm also not personally a big fan of the "kids dancing in front of a green screen" genre of wxs videos... as excited as I was to see Rui and Emu get a song together (in general I'm excited to see them start to break out of their strict girl/boy split for the co-ed groups and I hope they do that for vbs too), the MV itself was a pretty big disappointment for me. at least Childish War managed to be so good I can forgive it

I feel like leo/need comms 3dmvs could be like do not go and hello builder, they can put the focus character in the center and give their respective instruments to the vocaloids and make them express themselves via movement instead of making it look like a casual l/n mv. I know theyre not dancers but ichika isnt breakdancing in do not go, you can tell the story with light movements, and i feel like they can be way more interesting than the casual l/n 3dmv

I think an MV that could most definitely make its way to S tier is MMJ Kiss the Villain it makes not into references to the main story but the way Kiss the Villain uses the spotlight is BEAUTIFUL.

I literally got chills when I watched the Kashika MV for the first time. The emotion is so raw and palpable and personal. Like, VBS has consistently been my least favorite unit in the game. I've been in the business of putting on shows/events/etc, so their story feels closer to my struggles at work than anything fantastical for me. Plus, I guess I'm not as into guys in my idol genre. Kashika changed all of that. I actually care about these kids now and want them to succeed, thanks to this MV. That's how powerful it is.

After watching this, I now feel the obligation to watch your other videos

Im sure somebody else has mentioned these but theres a couple litle details in starry sky orchestra and samsa that i thought id point out cause thyere pretty cool. In starry sky orchestra theres a bit in the chorus where they mimic different instruments (i cant remember all of them exactly but ik emu mimics symbols and im pretty sure luka mimics the conductor and somebody mimics a triangle) and in samsa during the line "The light is there , at 25:00 (1am)" (i could be wrong with the exact translation since i got it from the wiki) and when ena says it shes standing in the posistion of where 1:00 would be on a clock. Anyways im sure somebody else said this and i could be wrong but i thought id point it out :3. I really enjoy these videos btw and while i do disagree with some placements i enjoy seeing them and hearing your thoughts!

Some of your 'songs that should get 3dmvs' is already played in their live concerts (all of mmjs has been performed iirc), they already got the mocap/choreos just need to edit camera works and effects if they would ever put them as 3dmvs in the game. Also a lil bit fun fact, Irony hasn't been like... Performed by the niigo characters in their concert but it is performed by the niigo VAs for the anniversary thanks concert

Have you seen any of the newer bandori 3D MVs? They’re still in their infancy overall as there’s only 19 right now, but I’d be interested in seeing what you think of those considering your consistent issues with L/N being boring. I’d also shout out the older song MVs from things like the film lives, but that feels like cheating since those aren’t actually in game and have far more creative freedom

15:31 hiya so this part of the mv isn’t railroads in fact its lines of morse code that translates to “MORE MORE JUMP” but I can agree that it does look like a railroad and how you interpreted it makes a lot of sense.
