In this video, we'll be ranking every Death Battle episode from season 2. Or at least the first half of it. How is Death Battle season 2 ranked by today's standards? Does it still hold up? Let's find out.
Season 2 of Death Battle is home to some of the best and worst episodes of the entire series. Due to the volatile production of this season, each episode had constant shifts in quality. Death Battle season 2 has some of the best and worst episodes in the entire show, with its reception matching that perfectly.

That being said, Death Battle season 2 is a massive improvement when compared to season 1. When ranking every Death Battle episode, it's worth noting that season 2 has a much better repertoire of episodes. Many people consider episodes from season 2 to be the gold standard of Death Battle episodes. However, I do not believe its weaker episodes are as easy to overlook as others may seem.

To celebrate Death Battle season 10 I have decided to rank every Death Battle episode within its first 10 seasons. Death Battle has always been one of the most well-known shows on the internet. Whether it's praised for its amazing fights are criticized for its poor research, Death Battle episodes have marked their place in internet culture. As someone who grew up with this series, I felt that ranking every Death Battle episode would be the best way to celebrate season 10.

I think Yang vs Tifa deserves credit for being very accurate to the source material. The main character of the show is unintentionally made to look like a completely unlikeable scumbag and we're supposed to think they're awesome for it. Blake vs Mikasa was exactly the same in that regard. Good job, guys, you thoroughly understand the source material of the company you work for! :)

Plus This episode was released way before Final Fantasy 7 Remake. I mean Personally they could've used Tifa's Dissdia Model instead of this. And I highly doubt they would even do a rematch anyway due to RoosterTeeth nowadays.

As someone who is a huge fan of Blazblue and Guilty Gear and always wanted a Sol vs Ragna ever since I discovered the series and was super hyped when I saw it announced, I just want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for that rant. It was really satisfying for me. When I first saw the episode back when it first come out, I can’t tell you how disappointed I felt. I honestly hate the episode. My personal least favorite episode in all of Death Battle. Now yes, I will admit, there are technically worse episodes out there, but as someone who loves these two characters, as someone who loves these two series, Blazblue and Guilty Gear being my all time favorite fighting games of all time, I can’t help but feel insulted by the episode. As much as I would love a remake of this episode since I know for a fact that they know better and probably would make a better episode now, I can understand why people wouldn’t want that, but personally, I would love to see a much better version of this match up. I want this match up done justice… or maybe other Blazblue vs Guilty Gear match up but make it a better episode like Tager vs Potemkin, Chipp vs Bang, Nagoriyuki vs Hakumen, or Kagura vs Leo… though if you want a Guilty Gear match up that doesn’t have Blazblue, then maybe May vs Amy Rose or Hong Meiling vs Jam, and for the reverse, Terumi vs Michael Roa, which is probably one of my favorite match ups that might never happen. Also, I find it ironic that my favorite Death Battle of all time, Snake vs Sam, is in the same season as my most hated Death Battle.

I can understand the “only one capsule left” scene, yeah there were others on the ground but he was tryna play it off like Dan hid them in his robe, so if Hercule went to pick one of the ones on the ground someone could see and he’d get exposed, I think the scene was trying to convey “I only got one capsule left that nobody knows about”

As a Blazblue fan who doesn't know everything about the lore and isn't in the fandom, particularly for it, this was still too 'triggering' for me to keep watching. I can understand if I got a few facts wrong (especially if it doesn't involve the character's abilities), but not knowing the currency part still ended me. Anyway, I love a good rant from a passionate fan. That aside, I like the Death Battle reviews. It opens up new perspectives on old things I used to enjoy (or hate). Much appreciation for you to put so much work into those ranking videos!

Small correction, but just like with Stormsoflight's video, we should clarify that fever is not a disease, it is a symptom. Also, Biff Weed also acknowledged that Ragna's analysis was disrespectful to Blazeblue and described it as an "entertaining dumbster fire" in his updated season 2 ranking (although he seemed to describe the "no one knows" running gag as unironically good) and Nemesis did procceed to point out several inaccuracies in terms of how Blazeblue lore was presented in Ragna's analysis in his "100 Death Battles mistakes" video (although why he didn't focus a bit more on that in his review of the episode is beyond me) and considering that Nicj actually got to explain himself in RTX, I'd argue that a good chunk of the fanbase did pick on how badly Blazeblue was treated in Ragna's analysis, at least a little bit. Also, am I the only one who likes the Sol Badguy silluette in the climax of the fight? Like, silluettes are just fucking cool.

Great review of the second half of the season. Overall the episodes that are REALLY good REALLY do carry this season, but even a season like Season 4, I'd rank higher than this one overall, even with the spectacular first half. Still, it contains enough peak DB to warrant a comfy re-watch now and then.

@@JonathanFrostathan speaking as someone who’s main fandom he’s in be Pokémon, I can say that I didn’t like the line as it feels as if they just didn’t care about Pokémon. It has been shown a good amount of times that people in the show or games that treat Pokémon as just slaves are outright just bad people in those cases and even the villains (Team Rocket) actively hate those people the villains of the show even being villains love their Pokémon and care for them. And in the anime at least mega evolution is not just stone but also the trainer and their Pokémon must have a special bond to be able to mega evolve. So yeah the line very much so is just horrible

To be fair, with the Ragna sword thing Blood Scythe IS an alternate name for Ragna’s weapon, most likely being how it was localized in America. But considering in this exact season Boomstick corrected the fact that Babidi was Bibidi’s clone instead of his son, which was a mistranslation, I’m not holding my breath for this.

Taking in consideration how the DB community tends to act as a sort of hivemind with the exact same opinions and thoughts (aka: most of the time they just copy the ones from Biff and Nem) it's really refreshing to see new and somewhat hot takes such as yours

I like that you find my takes refreshing, I wouldn't exactly say that the DB community is a hivemind. If you look into other Discord servers, the opinions on Death Battle episodes do vary more than you'd think. For instance, Biff and Nem love Omniman vs Homelander and Charizard vs Agumon, but I've talked with a lot of people who actively dislike those episodes. Plus, there are people who hate Hulk vs Broly despite Biff and Nem still enjoying it in spite of its issues in sound design. I do understand why you think this, though, as Biff and Nem, who are arguably the biggest Death Battle content creators (at least in terms of people who make Death Battle reviews), do share the same opinion on most episodes.

No one has ever put into words exactly why I hate Goku vs Superman 2 so much until now. It feels so apologetic for its own existence yet still somehow insults everyone involved. I remember feeling a bit odd about the first one cause both are a little more aggressive than I'd like them to be. But the second one seems to have forgotten to have Goku or Superman in it at all. And since it spends so much time talking about the context of the matchup instead of the match itself it feels like they forgot to have any death battle in it too. It's just such a nasty episode. If it wasn't for the fact Beiber vs Black was...well beiber vs black I'd say it was easily the most mean spirited and uncomfortable episode of the show.

Ok so 1. I got bragging rights woooooooooo 2.epic vid bro 3. Regarding Ragna vs Sol (sorry) there are 2 other characters with awful treatment that Imo are about as bad as Ragna. Esdeath and Ryuko. Ryuko because she got her episode 1 characterization and kinda just got fed to Shadow. And Esdeath because she got a big fat nothing of an analysis, a fight that showed none of her strategy, bad writing and voice directing that made her sound like a little rich girl instead of a confident general, and some general stupidity. But the thing that puts her over the edge is the obscurity aspect you complained about people complaining about. Akame Ga Kill is much less known than even Blazblue, so for many people, the annoying rich girl is all Esdeath is. That included me before I talked to some actual Esdeath fans. And that sucks. So… yeah. Again, great vid. Can’t wait for the season 3 vid, and for one episode from it in particular. If you know, you know… (Bowser Vs Ganon AAAAAAA)

24:18 *Talking about Edward Elric* "Both of their series are niche or at least less popular than the more mainstream shows of their mediums." Um, I'm sorry, did you just say FMA was niche? Fullmetal Alchemist... Which has Brotherhood considered one of THE best anime of all time by the community, ranking 2 overall currently on MAL in general and 1 on MAL for most favorited and 33 on most popular, and ranking 8, 15, and 20 for the same categories for manga. Considering there are around 20,000 anime on MAL's rankings, I would HARDLY call FMA anything even remotely close to niche or "less popular" considering it beats out Dragon Ball, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, One Piece, and MANY more in the largest anime community ranking ever.

Like Blake VS Mikasa after it, I have this unconditional love for Yang VS Tifa. It’s the reason I even know what RWBY is. With that said, it wasn’t what got me into it. Hell, in the years following the episode, I didn’t know Blake could be a girl’s name. That should tell you something. Anyway, I like the battle itself fine enough, but the conclusion I’ve hated since I was a kid. That said, I'd probably rank it way higher than it deserves, but whatever.

I'll have a real comment later I swear, I actually have a lot of mixed feelings brewing about the Ragna Vs Sol section as someone who, even with the caveat of it actually not being that hard to understand if you're willing to give a bit of your time to it, actively dislikes Blazblue's narrative regardless (i dont know what this adds or how you'll potentially feel about it but, I'd like to mention that I'm indifferent with Guilty Gear as a narrative and it doesn't really matter anyways as unless your name is Post-MKA Mortal Kombat, story in fighting games don't really factor in to my enjoyment of them overall) yeah....... I need to sit to think about whether or not I actually want to talk about it or just talk about how I'm enjoying the rest of this series, cant wait for the next part!

k, i've re-watched the ragsol segment, long story slightly less long, I didn't like it, I think I understood where you were coming from and if this comes off as me trying to invalidate your passion, just know that it is absolutely not my intention and I apologize for any stupid shit I might be about to say, but I found myself kinda... super annoyed at you explaining inricate stuff about GG and especially BB that you yourself admit (or at least imply) is kinda convoluted and is undeniably a lot for someone who isn't already a fan to take in, when you could've just said "they were noticeably more disrespectful to the character/series than they usually are" and leave it at that I understand that you're passionate about at least one of the series involved and I know from experience that talking about something you love sort of naturally leads to long tangents and info-dumps, but you gotta understand that there's only so much time we have on this earth, we can't (and sometimes shouldn't) familiarize with and give all of ourselves to everything, and sometimes a series like Blazblue unfortunately falls through the cracks and some people aren't patient enough to deal with it's..... I'm struggling to find the words here....... eccentricities? is that too insulting? And what you may find simple to understand, someone else may struggle with for a multitude of reasons, Is it fair? Oh FRRUUUUCCK no it isn't, but that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes, you could say "well it's easy to understand if you took the time to" but if you think about it, doesn't that apply to literally anything? Baking a cake? Calculus? Riding a bike? Trying to figure out just who let the dogs out? (kidding) Maybe it's not that simple? I am however willing to admit that this may just be me not being a fan of Blazblue (at least not as a narrative) and being naturally dismissive of it despite my attempt at empathy, and when you did get to the point, you did somewhat convince me that ragsol was more disrespectful than previous episodes so I don't necessarily disagree with the thesis statement, more so unable to relate to the lead up to it I understand if you don't want to read this, but if you do, I'm only sharing this because I found myself invested and enjoying the rest of the video, and want to share my thoughts, I hope you understand where I'm coming from

I don't see how repeatedly calling something confusing is trashing it. I hear that all the time about Kingdom Hearts from devoted fans of the series. Same with Metal Gear--the density of the lore is often a source of consternation for even big fans. I'm a big Pokémon fan and honestly some of the lore is completely incomprehensible to me (Ultimate weapon? Mega timeline? Parallel universes some of which are completely different and others are nearly identical to the present one?). And on that subject! Regarding Tai vs Red, "weapons designed to fight dragons" yeah no. They've never been shown to affect anything but Digimon classified as dragons, not any non-digital dragons. Insisting that this was the linchpin for Tai's victory is hot bullshit because it makes every sort of assumption. Greymon is just flat out stronger. That's all there is to it. And they fundamentally misunderstood the entire concept of Pokémon trainers!

This is definitely not an attack on your opinions because everyone is different but I find it weird that you love BlazBlue’s story but dislike Mortal Kombat’s. As someone who is a MK fan, I do agree that the story can be a bit stupid but I don’t think a person can say I don’t like this game’s story when BlazBlue’s is honestly WAY more frustrating and convoluted than Mortal Kombat’s. I actually have the opposite view you do. I cannot stand BlazBlue’s story, it actually gives me a headache.
