I personally LOVED Digimon Survive. Finished it twice, and I'm getting around to a third playthrough maybe when/if the next Survive title comes out. Probably some of the best replay value out of any of the digimon games.
Digimon survive is one of the few games to hook me from story alone. And while it's easily my favorite Digimon game I agree that it's not one I can recommend to anyone new to the series or games.
I'm glad you appreciated the Rumble Arena games and also Digimon World 4. It is a very different game and I feel that it gets a bad rep for coming out too late for people to be nostalgic like they are 1,2, and 3. I think it's honestly a decent game for its genre and the mechanics feel more fun once you learn them IMO. Plus people domt talk about AllStars much. I love Rumble Arena and Rumble Arena 2 is my favorite, but I have a lot of great memories of playing Allstars specifically with my niece and nephew. It was always a fun time and an interesting new take.
My favorite childhood Digimon games were Digimon World, Digimon World 3, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory, Digimon World Next Order, and Digimon Survive.
i don't have nostalgia for digimon 2003, and it really was that good, one of the best older games i've played. although i did find it confusing as someone who had never played a digimon game before. i ended up losing the emulation file for it but will replay it after i finish cyber sleuth
The thing about World 2 is that it starts off fine but eventually the grind hits *hard*. Your mon's level cap is 13 or so, and to raise it you need to dna digivolve with another mon and then your level cap goes up by, like, 2. Combine this with the battles being extremely slow and battles not respawning so they take forever to get into to begin with and the game becomes a chore.
If you play Cyber Sleuth on PC (or any PC game with 3D API) you can use the SpeedHack cheat of Cheat Engine (freeware) to zip through those tedious cut scenes at 20X the speed if you want. Makes those long-winded Japanese games and interminable cut-scenes bearable.
I've only played three Digimon games. Digimon World, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, and Digimon World Re:Digitize. I could not get into Cyber Sleuth. Digimon World 1 has my attention, as a fan of the v-pets, this type of Digimon game is way up my alley as opposed to a more traditional RPG. I haven't beat it yet, I've lost my save a few times, always my own fault. i'm determined to beat it one day, I just wish there was a better way to grind once your digimon dies, because kabuterimon and kuwagamon don't make much difference in my training it feels like. But I enjoy exploring file island and it has a vibe that is unmatched by other games. I would love a remastered version with a new, less nonsensical translation, and some QOL features. Re:code feels like something similar, but the vibe isn't as good thanks to the shiny graphics, lower atmosphere, and the bombastic musical score as opposed to the more ambient music of DW. But I appreciate that it seems a little easier just by way of making health items more affordable.
If you like the V-pet styled games you should likely get Digimon World Next Order as that's pretty much something between World 1 and Re:Digitize and has easier difficulties to cut the grinding a new Digimon part shorter you can chance any time with the Switch and PC versions adding a run button to that too, tho unfortunately only convenient way to "grind" easily in World 1 is to just cheat yourself a ton of stat Chips because the grinding part does not feel refined at all in that game...
My favorite game of all time is Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the second one is Danganronpa so I expect great things from Digimon Survive. I've been enjoying the game so far (10h of gameplay).
Digimon world data squad is fine but it falls victim to the "TV show the game" kind of thing where it's not terribly full of content and because it is a Digimon game there is a lot of grinding if you care about filling out the evolution trees. overall it's not a long game if you are just looking to steamroll through it it'll probably just take a few days and some of the dungeons are a bit obnoxious.
Just bought digimonstory cyber sleuth 1 the 2016 version next up is the 2018 version I'm new to digimon I only have seen a few episodes of the original series when I was a kid plan on watching the anime though lets see how that goes. Any recommendations on which one I should try next I have access to a switch, 3ds, ds, Xbox series x, ps5, PS3,PS2 plan on picking up a dslite to buy GBA games I have all of them the pokemon gba games just sitting around since my childhood ds broke
You already addressed this but CyberSleuth and it’s sequel to me are good games but locked behind some TERRIBLE game design choices. The Models for the Digimon are amazing and the gameplay is great but why on earth is the environments so bland. I understand it’s a “digital world via internal coding” but they are just so blue and boring with squares. Unskippable cutscenes should be considered a war crime because the story is the worst thing about the two games by far. I don’t want to see the same 4 stupid facial expressions that my character makes during dialogue anymore. I finished them on Vita and thought about buying it on the Switch but not been able to skip cutscenes or even fast forward them is a hard no. Digimon World 2003 is an amazing game but it desperately needs modern QOL improvements to be playable today. There’s no journal to track what quest you’ve completed and what your current goal is. No map marker to tell you where to go or what random NPC the game wants you to talk too so you can trigger the next event. You can only save on save points which are usually scattered in towns or random points on the map. You can’t quick save and if you die, you get booted to the main menu so you can easily lose hours of progress. And last issue I have is that the US version doesn’t even have a post game. Please remaster the game Bandai
My young brother and I had played Digimon World, Digimon World 3, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, Digimon World 4, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Digimon World Next Order, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory, and Digimon Survive videogames. But I played Digimon World 2 (the 2nd installment of the Digimon World series that we didn't have back in my childhood years in the early 2000s) for the very first time in my adulthood years...and it's boring and not fun.
Respect for putting Digimon World 1 so low, it is a bad game, just nostalgia, but sometimes when you talk how bad it was, people start regurgitating poop and throwing it.
Idt so much it's nostalgia so much as it was a great concept plagued by poor execution and if they'd worked on perfecting it instead of reinventing the wheel each game we could've gotten a masterpiece like next order much sooner.
@@billythenarwhal1579 we have it in Digimon world 2 then 3 then dusk/dawn then the follow up for DS and finally cyber Sleuth and hackers memory. Can only hope this will be the next one instead of more next order/survival poop makers.
I've only played D world 1 in 2020, no nostalgia at all i never cared about digimon until 2020, so i started playing every game (i haven't played next order or cyber sleuth) and i can safely say that world one is not only the best digimon game I've played but one of the classic ps1 games, a game that i had no idea it was so amazing and unique. Everything after world 1 was downhill, especially world 2, 3, and the ds ones, they are just bad games, no wonder the franchise struggles with the games. So no it's not just nostalgia you just have bad taste 😂, there is a good reason world 1 has a cult following and that's because it is so good.
I think you're right about Cyber Sleuth being a slog to replay and very few people mention it. Tried it whrn the collection came out on Switch and never re-finished it.
The first half of the game is reeeeeeeeally slow, story-wise. Cyber Sleuth is great, probably the best Digimon game imo and the one I'd recommend to anyone wanting to get into Digimon through the games, but I can't deny it that it runs for like twice as long as it needed to.
Yeah easily top 3 digimon game for me, couldnt refinish it. Just takes SO MUCH TIME. Also my biggest issue with the game was it just feels like grinding and evolving isnt worth a damn. I vividly remember finally evolving into alphamon, and my damage went from 210 per hit with grademon, to 225 per hit with alphamon. I almost quit right there i was so mad how week the megas are in comparison with ultimates
Digimon games have always been plagued by mediocrity, it's such a bummer. I love how many genres and different kinds of games digimon has had a chance to explore. But man I'd love a flagship title that could fire on all cylinders.

It's actually not, it's just that I didn't enjoy the game as much now that I'm older and now that games have changed and improved, like I LOVE Digimon World 2003, but it's really slow to load now. Just because you disagree, doesn't mean my opinions are wrong.
Luckily i didnt play the game when i wS growing up. So i went back to play it for the first time last year after beating practically all digimon games except survive, and buddy no waay in HELL yall enjoy that cluster fuck ugly bugged out digimon game.
Digimon world 1 at D really? If this didn't exist the whole digimon gaming would have no existance. One of the best nostalgia games ever. Digimon world 1,2,3 ps1 games were all amazing and unique. My favorite games. Next order would be much better if player had only 1 digimon and not 2. Cybersleuth couldn't finish it, to much story dialoges that gets annoying sadly because i want to play and not press a button and running around to speak to people NON STOP lol. I left it there and i dont think i will ever return to it regreted buying it.
You couldn't even finish DW1 in some regions because of a glitch, it was far too hard without a guide and the internet was hard to come by at the time. I get what you're saying bit it was too hard for a game for kids. I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but only the early parts because I just couldn't get that far into the game.
@LostinTranslationmon that's true the game was super hard I didn't finish it either as a kid. Yeah the glitches are also terrible as if they happen sometimes you can't proceed further at game the agumon-ogremon. Also turtle i think too not sure maybe there was angemon glitch too? All the digimon games were hard mode. I had to become an adult to return to them and finish them with internet help. Dw 3 was easier.
