In this video, we're going to be ranking and reviewing every DBZ fight! Starting from the beginning, we're going to go through each fight, rating them according to how important they are in the Dragon Ball Z storyline.
Once we've finished ranking all the fights, we'll be able to create a tier list that will help you understand which fights are the best and which fights are the worst. This video is a must-watch for any Dragon Ball Z fan, and it will help you to rank all the fights in the series correctly!

That charge up in front of Captain Ginyu is a legendary moment one of my favs tbh. This was still the era when the power levels were starting to get high but not ridiculously high. Also when Goku screams and blows them all back due to his immense power is an underrated moment for sure.

Frank Sinatra's "Balls in Yo Jaws" used to play at my uncle's house all the time when I was young! I remember him picking me up in his van after t-ball practice, it was cool because it always had candy! He always had a warm popsicle in his pants too, cream-filled I think? One of the most visually impressive fights, that was animated in a style that captures the full intensity and of the power of the fight. Goku VS Cell. Especially the beginning of the 3 episode of the fight. Starting with them fighting at an incredible speed then going blow for blow. With Jimmy Firecracker commenting that Goku appears to be blocking Cell's punches with his face. And the Instant Kamehameha.

@@SSJFutureGohan62093 Yeah the Gohan fight is quite boring. A huge build up. Awesome transformation. Good start dispatching the Cell Juniors. Then pose, rhetoric, pose, hit, pose, charging, still charging, attack, fail, pose, fear, owned, damage, owned, spew, fear, teleport, explode. Return, Vegeta go AHH!, Cell goes Na. Vegeta get bitch slapped. Brief moment of despair. Begin longest beam duel in the entire series. Best part is Cell's overwhelming confidence being completely shattered the moment he gets hit by Vegeta's blast, staggering him as he looks back in shock. Then panic sets in hearing Gohan scream and when he turns back to Gohan, he is overwhelmed by dread. Because he knows what's about to happen next. And just like that he's dead.

Not to mention in the Goku and Nappa fight, Goku gets a lick in for every fallen friend by name, and just embarrasses Nappa the whole way through to really break his pride. Not only that, but the Goku and Vegeta Saiyan Saga fight, as shown in the footage used, also let's Goku realize he killed Grandpa Gohan in his Oozaru form, yet he never gets to fully have this sink in because he caught between an Oozaru and a cliff face. Tue goons Gohan and Krillin beat when first arriving on Namek are named Banan and Sui, and I adore their designs as well as many other Frieza Force soldier and Elite designs, and alien designs in general. Vegeta is a menace on Namek. The first mention of a Super Saiyan was in regards to Gohan's insane potential as a hybrid, but took on a different meaning on Namek where it was regarded as some sort of vague limit break that Vegeta was unsure of how to quantify.

9:34 Well not really When Vegeta and Nappa were in the pods in the beginning of the saiyan saga Vegeta talks about Gohan's high potential and Nappa asks if he could be a super saiyan. The concept of a super saiyan appeard even earlier.

Yajirobe doesn't get enough credit. He saved Goku and then he saved Gohan. They would've had to revive Goku on Namek and he wouldn't end up as powerful if he was wished there. Gohan was such a badass on Namek, he may have been the first Saiyan to ever harm Frieza.

Goku vs Vegeta round 1 is probably my favorite fight in all of Dragon Ball. Definitely deserved it’s own tier. We’ll never see another fight like that in anime. Like you said, everyone had a role in it, and everyone was so trashed at the end. You could feel the desperation from each side. Only other fights that can compare are Goku vs Piccolo Jr (which is from Dragon Ball) and Goku vs Cell. Also, Dodoria vs Namekians not being memorable? Bruh, I’ll never forget that neck snap and his hand through the one dude’s chest.

9:35 not sure if it's in all versions, but it the version of the manga I read, Nappa mentions the term "Super Saiyan" in his and Vegeta's first appearance, while discussing what Gohan did to Raditz, but it wasn't regarding the legend. He just casually said "The kid is a super saiyan, huh? Maybe we should make a few, then?" But Vegeta pretty much immediately shoots the idea down because it "doesn't benefit them in the least"

That's true and the first official mention of super Saiyan in the sense We know it now comes from the Grand elder. When krillin mentions that Kami died The Grand elder remarks the one that killed him must have been a super Saiyan.

Rewatching the original Z anime, I just passed this scene, it was handled differently between the original Japanese and English Dub (I have a dvd and could check them both at the same time). In the original Japanese, the scene plays out exactly the same, however, in the English Dub, Gohan is never mentioned, and instead Funimation chose to have Vegeta reveal his wish here instead of prior like in the Japanese version, and Vegeta says that he and Nappa will become Super Saiyans by gaining immortality. Given the fact that Funimation possibly had foreknowledge of what it would eventually be when they scripted this scene and possibly were trying to foreshadow it, this interpretation is in the realm of what we know the transformation as nowadays, however it is still not quite there.

Captain Ginyu deserved better. From what we see, Ginyu's fighting style is uniquely entertaining, and fitting for the leader of the Ginyu Force. It would have been nice to see more of it to demonstrate why Ginyu is worthy of being Frieza's second-in-command. It was also cool that he believes in a fair fight, releasing Goku when Jeice helps him gain the upper hand. He also demonstrates a level of integrity by deciding to handle Goku on his own, even when he realizes he's outmatched, rather than get Frieza or pledge to betray Frieza, the way Frieza's other henchmen did. It shows that Ginyu serves Frieza in earnest. I feel like the Ginyu portion of the story was rushed overall and too one-sided once Goku shows up. We should have gotten more time with the Ginyu Force and their Captain.

I would put Goku & Piccolo v. Raditz in S tier. Though not as iconic as the Z Fighters v. The Saiyans, it was very nice to see Piccolo and Goku team up and take desperate lengths to beat Raditz to the point where Goku makes the ultimate sacrifice. The ending was great when Raditz reveals that there is more than just him in space.

Vegeta vs Final Frieza is unforgettable. Vegeta’s opening power up is pretty unique, and it tricks you into thinking he’s about to transform right before our eyes. I’ll never forget Vegeta’s body writhing in agony as Frieza uses it as a punching back. Sick, and utterly awesome. All to end with Vegeta spilling his heart and Frieza’s past. I wish Vegeta got one good punch in..

That’s interesting about the freeze third form, as Toriyama in the Managua was quoted saying that he drew inspiration from the films he watched as a child and, since alien was released in 1979 and dbz freeze arc was in 1991, it would align time wise

Grading the Goku vs Frieza fight has always been tricky for me. On one hand, tons of iconic moments happen that define what the series would become. On the other, it's loaded with tons of filler that make rewatching it a total drag. Also, Vegeta vs Recoome is easily at least A tier. It's short, but the animation and art direction in that episode is some of the best in the entire series.

Cool video! looking forward to the conclusion, though in truth i would add a god tier and Goku vs Frieza should be in that tier as it shouldn't be surrounded by other fights that were not nearly as iconic as the the first time Goku went Super Saiyan, the only other fight I might think could make it into god tier for Z would be Gohan vs Cell when he goes Super Saiyan 2 cause that was also just spectacular

No disrespect but I strongly disagree with dodoria versus the namekians. It sets the stage for our warriors that they are on a different planet, there are some really bad things happening and they can’t do anything about it, because they are out matched. And every time they over come one thing, another thing happens rinse and repeat. We don’t even get to see Goku successfully leave namek, we’re left to think he’s dead too. It shook Z and that all started with the brutality of dodoria.

Z-Fighters vs Vegeta is THE anime fight , just too good of a fight , from a competitive 1v1 between Goku and Vegeta to an even more competitive 4v1 battle , Vegeta took insane beating from everyone and didn't fall, Goku was paralyzed , Gohan went ape , Krillin got Krillin-ed and Yajirobe got ground and pound TKO'd. Saiyan Saga was a masterpiece , it's like Toriyama accidentally dropped the plot armor on the saiyans.

After going back and reviewing the saga in depth, I've found The PL given are completely unreliable and don't at all match what we say in the fights. Nappa, for example, uses so many massive moves that there's no way he was less than 11 or 12k. In the end, it looks like the official DB guidebook and numbers were thrown out there without much consideration as a way to sell product to kids at the time. Toriyama famously has little regard for PL's and as a result, it ends up all being pretty contradictory when you watch with certain numbers in mind

I would rate Vegeta vs recoom way higher. It appears that you rate battles based on narrative vs actually quality of the animation and choreography. The Vegeta vs recoom fight is one the best drawn fights of dbz. No fight matches the manga panel art as accurately. Maybe if you watched it with the Japanese audio it will have way more impact vs the America soundtrack. Meanwhile the z fighters vs Saiyan fight I was expecting a f. The animation is mostly filler quality and they needed to add saibaman to pad for run time. The saibamans really ruin the fight for me because they aren't even the main enemies. They are just npc spawns.

I have to disagree with Goku vs. Frieza, it can only be S, at best. My reason is that it suffered of a lot of bad dubisms: Frieza threatening Gohan's life (what actually caused Goku to turn SSJ) was cut and Goku's "I am" speech is so out-of-character for him, he sounds more like Superman.

I like to imagine how impactful and emotionally heavy it was for fans of DB in Japan to have to go through that. Probably an epic moment whcih made Goku's Nappa beat down even better for fans
