"Windsors" is not a real thing though. The current King Charles III is actually of the House of Glucksburg, a Danish royal family line. (which in turn is from a much older German family the House of Oldenberg) The closest dynasties to the Targaryens are the Tudors, the earlier Yorks and Lancasters, the Plantagenets.... as well as a little inspiration from both the Romanovs and the Byzantine royal dynasties (in particular, the Macedonian dynasty) George has admitted to being only knowledgeable about the history of Britain. So while some of history in ASOIAF/F&B resembles other areas, it is only by coincidence.

Of course the Windsors are a thing. Charles III has the last name Windsors because Queen Elizabeth proclaimed it that he has her last name no matter from wich House his Father comes from. His children will have the name Windsors, so it is fairly unimportant that his Father came from the House of Glucksburg.

Matarys and Valarr are the sons of Baelor Breakspear and are very briefly heirs to the Throne before dying of the plague. Aelor & Aelora are the twins of Prince Rhaegel. They married each other. Aelora killed Aelor accidentally and Aelora was briefly heir to the throne before being murdered. Daenaera was the younger sister to Aelor and Aelora. She married Aerion Brightflame and they’re the parents of Maegor.

Aside from my outrage, as a Conqueror stan, at Aegon I Targaryen not being the absolute pinnacle of iconic where he belongs, this a great video. Also fascinating how plotting out any group accros a scale always leaves the bulk of them squarely in the middle. Also good job leaving Aegon The Unworthy at the very bottom of disgusting, can't argue with that one. Can't wait to see his reign, and those of Daeron And Baelor, explored in-depth in Fire And Blood 2, which I think will likely come out before Winds (assuming anything ever comes out)

Halaena and her children were really dealt a horrible hand. From Halaena having to choose which of her children to die, to Maelor being killed by a mob on his way to Oldtown. My opinion, the sadest Targaryens dealing with things beyond their control Second note: Alyssa did love riding her dragon but thats not the only thing she loved to ride *wink* *wink*

Not Elaena (daughter of Aegon III) in "idk her" tier!!! She's one of my favorite Targaryens and would easily lead the goods if not be one of the greats!! We may not know much but what we do know is pretty bad ass! Whether it's chopping off her trademark "crowning glory" braid to try and free herself from detainment, performing the duties of 'Master of Coin' for her husband so well that King Daeron greatly respected and entrusted her with many important matters of state, having her 3rd husband's effigy carved to reflect his true nature that gave him joy (a musician) rather than what society would've expected (a depiction of his knighthood), or anything in between, Elaena was amazing. There's also something quite gratifying about her being known as the ugly daughter in her youth but aging so well that she was "more beautiful at 70 than 17"- particularly because she never cared about being beautiful in the first place, as evidenced by her willingly sacrificing the one beautiful feature she had when she chopped off her braid. Something about that is just really cool.

Shouldn't the Conqueror be at the top of iconic? I mean, the entire history of Targaryen dynasty started with him. Heck, the entirety of the realm counts TIME using Aegon's conquest as the benchmark.

Mine is very similar, one of the major differences is that I’d personally switch Aegon III and Viserys II, not that Aegon was a better ruler but he’s my fave Targ character. His PTSD mixed with his care for the kingdom makes him absolutely fascinating

Her story is interesting and she is at least better than Viserys but she was not a good ruler at all and her actions led to the dragons going instinct after she fumbled dealing with the Shepard and the storming of the Dragonpit. Also giving Rosby and Stokeworth to the males instead of the firstborn females.

I love the Elaena from the Maidenvault (who was sadly placed in idk her). She cut off her hair in hopes that removing her beauty would convince Baelor to release her. She had a dragon egg that matched her hair which was her prized possession. She functionally became Master of Coin using her husband as a cover. She's also the origin of the Valyrian blood in house Plumm.

Good Queen Alysanne definitely belonged at the top because of all the nobility in Westerosi history, he's the first non-Stark that had the respect of the Night's Watch. Granted all she needed to do was finance the renovations of a castle and convince Jaehaerys to double the lands tithed to the NW with the New Gift, but it was more than any Kings in the North had done in a long time.

Daella is the daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne, wife of Lord Rodrik Arryn, mother of Queen Aemma Arryn, and maternal grandmother of Rhaenyra Targaryen. She died of childbed fever at 18, after giving birth to her only child, Aemma. Afterwards, Queen Alysanne denied Rodrik's request to have Daella interred at the Eyrie, and instead had her daughter cremated at Dragonstone. It was Daella's early marriage and death that started the rift between Jaehaerys and Alysanne, because Alysanne was against her marrying so young.

Thank you for the video. I quite like them, but I would like to make a respectful critique: It would be better to be more clear about the factors that you are evaluating the characters, because, as it is o this video it is not consistent at all. Sometime you say that it is the inherent goodness or likability, others you say that is the entertainment value, some times you say that is the deeds, some times you say the importance to the dynasty oy the realm, etc. I think you would be able to be much more clear and coherent on the arguments of why of each ranking if you set the factors that you will evaluate beforehand, maybe with a simple grading system. I hope that I could be off help. ✌

Personally would have put Viserra in the good category (at least in the lower part of good). I always thought she was a bit of a tragic character when you really delve into her perspective, as if you really think about it her character that basically got unfairly compared and unfairly treated by Jaehaerys and others in her family because of her similarities and close age to Saera. It led to her lashing out when she got then sent away to the North (and thus unlikely to cause problems like Saera) and thus a tragic death during one last attempt at freedom.

Hearing all the Targaryen names made me think of John's Targaryen name. We know it won't be Aegon or Rhaenys and likely not related to Viserys or Daenys. The only option that makes sense is Jaehaerys, or something deriving of that. There are only 2 Jaehaeryses, making him some sort of third head of the dragon. It also fits his character, since John is a uniting figure making historical decisions. Not only that, but it answers the unasked question to why he's called John, of all names. Possibly his name would be closer to something like Johaenys or Jaenys, but that's a speculative stretch.

You predicted it and are correct. Aeny's weakness nearly destroyed the dynasty, to where only Maegor's brutality was strong enough to salvage it, then Joe's wisdom is what repaired it. Maegor belongs in the "Meh" tier, which really says something given he literally saved the dynasty.

I've only just started the video, but if my boy Baelor Breakspear is not in the either 'Great' or 'Iconic' tier... I'm going to be very angry. Also, I'd argue that Alysanne forcing her daughter to marry a fat guy old enough to be her grandfather is a real shitty move coming from a queen that was said to be a defender of women's rights, so... Edit: I just saw the video, and Baelor being placed behind Aegon III is a travesty.

Great vid except for the Rhaegar placement. I get it, there are two sides to the fandom when it comes to Rhaegar, the side that just believes Robert completely and simplify his character to a plot point and a prophecy. I am in the other camp that see one of the single best characters in the entire series. I have talked to enough people on both sides to know Rhaegar haters will never back down on it. The lack of nuance in the ranking is what ticks me more than anything I guess, and this is more of an extension I have with the wider community who despise Rhaegar. For as deeply as Quinn and others think about the series, they take everything said about Rhaegar at face value. I am sure Quinn has deeper thoughts on Rhaegar, but I haven't heard it from him yet. Me personally, I love Rhaegar. I think how he haunts the story and how shrouded in mystery he is, despite how close to the main series he is, is just so fun to think about. Ned's thoughts on Rhaegar are just one aspect of this that many people have written about online.

24:20 Daeron (Egg's son) was gay, and he was the one that was supposed to marry Olenna Tyrell, but the marriage didn't take place. I don't remember if she claims to have gotten it stopped in the books, or only in the show. But Daeron was killed by three dudes wearing animal masks IIRC, some weird story that we don't know anything about yet until F&B 2.

My thing is, it never mattered if Rheneyra’s kids don’t have white hair. At least it wouldn’t matter if both of their supposed parents didn’t also have white hair. The fact they are bastards doesn’t take away that they are still Targaryen, since their mom is a Targaryen. So based on that of course they can be born without white hair. The only reason it’s a problem is strictly because of who their parents are supposed to be. Neither of which has black hair. Although, if Rheneys had black hair it could skip a generation. But it would be highly doubtful thatv3 of her kids would be born with black hair

I really like Daeron I for trying to honor his ancestors and completing the conquest. And he basically accomplished that WITHOUT DRAGONS. The only reason he lost was because the Dornish broke the rules of engagement, killing the king under a peace banner.

Poor Viserys just wanted to have his hobbies and let someone else rule, which is an interesting parallel to Aegon II, because he also didn't want to rule, although Aegon was definitely far worse because while Viserys' pastimes included miniatures and model cities, while Aegon's hobbies included making children kill each other and assaulting servant girls...

I was all set to watch, but then I saw they left out Aegon I and Visenya from the Iconic tier? That's just ridiculous! Even Maegor deserves a spot there. Sure, he was crazy and a terrible king, but let's not forget, thanks to him, the Targaryen dynasty survived. For generations, everyone's been talking about Aegon the Conqueror, Visenya the Warrior Queen, and even Maegor the Cruel, good or bad, they're all iconic figures.
