You resurrect S. Truett Cathey, he'd try to burn down every CFA in Las Vegas! I swear the shovels that buried his casket broke the ground on the first Vegas location!
There was a local fast food non-franchise place without a drive-thru where I grew up called Beef Burger. For their kid meals, you got to go to the toy wall and pick your toy. They had actual real toys. Hula hoops were on the wall. You could get a Hula hoop! Sadly, COVID ended that business. Being shut down that long, the owner just decided to end it. Also, the owner won the lottery 3 times in 2 years. He's a legend. Over $1 million worth of winnings in 2 years.
1. Which one of y'all stole the fries or tots from the Sonic Wacky Pack? 2. If Arby's is going to have kids meals, they oughta do it right: Get some characters on your bag. For Arby's, make the lead a cowboy and call him R.B. the Kid, make his sidekick a cowgirl named Curly with curls the color of their curly fries under her hat, and add some other characters.
Kind of a good idea actually. Their horses could be called Gyro (pronounced either "hero" or "jyro") and Reuben. And they could herd stock for Bacon & Cheddar Ranch.
I was drinking yogurt at the part with the chicken booger and laughed so hard it shot out through my nose. Great job Matt. This is a classic BYR! Thanks again for another fun episode
As a kid my dad never got us happy meals. He would just get nuggets and fries from McDonald’s. Eventually we just started to call them sad meals. That name just stuck 😂😂
Sad meals 🐔 🍟 😂 😂 😂 😂 you have a funny memory at least 😂 I hope you get to make a kid sad, too but just for fun! I don’t think my grandson would notice the no toy or 🥤 bc it takes him a half hour to eat nuggets & fries 😂
Glad they brought back the happy meal box. They went to a bag for awhile and even though I was already an adult. It was so disappointing to see. I still have fond memories of the boxes used with the toys. They would either have puzzles or cutouts for the box to become a racetrack, fort, house, creativity at its peak.
Your daughter is as fiesty as my granddaughter and I love it. Plus, the “eat the chicken nugget, see what happens,” made me laugh so hard. Thanks Matt.
I may have to hand in my southern card for this, but when I'm traveling Culver's kid's meal is the bomb (when you get the burger). A normal sized burger, an actual small size of cheese curds/ a.k.a fried cheese (not a shot size), and a coupon you can redeem immediately for ice cream, all in a fun bag. Now there's no toy, but like Matt said in Chick-fil-A's case, who wouldn't opt for the ice cream over a bad toy/book?
My wife and I live a mile down the road from a Culver's, and whenever we go there we both always get the kid's meal. Sounds goofy to order it as an adult, but you get a solid amount of food plus dessert for a pretty good price.
2 things, 1. Culvers is in Texas, so it does show up in the South. 2. in addition to free frozen custard (with FLAVORS, different each day!) the bags also have points on them, and those points can be saved for a) free kid's meals (what we do) or b) at some stores REAL toys, like full sized soccer balls, decks of cards, t-shirts, footballs, bobble heads if you really need the cheap plastic, etc.
Matt, in defense of not just the company I work for (McDonald's) but other's. The quality standard for fries is that they are good for only 7 minutes, and that's under heat lamps. Your Fries are always going to be sub-par if your not eating them in your car.
McDonald's fries are the best thing in the world for the first 90 seconds out of the fryer. After that, they quickly become wet cardboard. I can never finish them before they completely deteriorate.
@@rtrichar I got ‘demoted’ 50 years ago from cooking fries to cooking fish fillets because I refused to add the amount of salt they wanted on the fries.
I kinda love the idea of movie rental for kids and the booklets for making up stories with your kids. I like it much better than the idea of a toy that breaks in 10 minutes from McDonald's.
Would have loved that as a kid tbh. But some people - even kids- don’t like TV as much and I could imagine parents with super hyper kids would be dismayed by almost all of Chick-fil-A’s educational toys since 2010. At least your kids could rock out to or make fun of (depends on age) the kids bop cd’s back then. Definitely a step up from the paper puzzle bs I got after they stopped the kids bop though
My sons and I loved this video. And thanks for the free Vudu rental! Really thought someone else would have snagged this already. Bless you Bless Your Rank!!
I remember when the Happy Meal boxes had games, puzzles, jokes, punch outs. The box was themed towards the toy, the toys were of a higher quality back then.
Wendy’s actually usually has good toys. Once my girls got a pack where you built a snap together car and it had stickers to decorate it. It was the size of an adults hand to. They played with those for a week before we couldn’t find any of the wheels anymore.
When I was little we used to go to Wendy's every Sunday with my grandmother and the toys were awesome. I had a pickle pen I loved. I of course lost it back then and then was reminiscing about it with my sister recently. Well guess who has herself a retro pickle pen from Ebay now!?!
@@cordelianoelle3644 It’s because kids kept choking on the gum because it’s harder than plastic 😂 kids now adays couldn’t handle it and ruined it for everyone
Matt is hilarious and whoever is editing these videos makes it 100 times funnier! Y'all are awesome! Whenever I need a laugh, It's a Southern Thing never disappoints!
I work at McD so allow me to expert for a second. 1, They ran out of Sonic toys and were forced to use the store's stash of surplus toys. 2, At least once a year Mcd "Cleans House" on surplus toys and there's about 2 weeks to a month where stores are directed to use overstock before a new run of themed toys is implemented. Toys can clog up a storage area. 3, The toy itself is part of a Disney themed train set. It should connect to 10 or so similar toys. 4, If you're one of those people who MUST HAVE every single toy of a run, we don't like you. You're automatically a butthole. There are very few exceptions where we'll willingly hold toys for you if you request it and usually we'll only do it for 2 or 3 people. Generally we'll do it if you're a super nice "regular" who's not too pushy about it. You probably will have to pay for them. You're supposed to, but honestly it depends on who you're dealing with. You could get a "connection", like a family member/family friend who works in the store to grab them for you, but calling the store or talking to a manager to hold them for you for a few days, we do not do it for everyone. If you're a turd about it, we'll find an excuse to not do it at all. We have hundreds of people to wait on and sending someone "off the floor" to look for a toy that may or may not even be in the store, becomes a problem.
😁 I also used to work at McDonalds (Crew Trainer for 2 and a half years), and when I saw the toy Matt got, I immediately thought "surplus toy". 😅 By the way, I was the "family connection". My niece (who was 4 to 5 at the time) liked me a lot, because every time she visited, I would pull out the big box stuffed full McDonalds toys (had a lot of completed runs), and would tell her to pick one to play with for the day and take home. 😐 As for people asking for specific toys, I normally didn't mind, and we were never requested to hold anything (probably because it was a small town next to a highway, so the majority of our customers were travelers). However, there was one time that I remember getting really annoyed, which was when we were doing Beanie Babies and EVERYBODY wanted the freakin' snowman, which we hadn't even gotten yet. Being petty and wanting some form of revenge, once we did get the shipment, I went ahead and bought a snowman for myself. To this day, I still have him sitting there on my deskshelf, and everytime I look at him, I chuckle like a madwoman. 😶 As for the BK nuggets, my manager once said that she wouldn't even feed them to her dog.
The editing on this was incredible, major props to everyone worked on this! Its such a shame that burger king clearly gave you food that had been sitting out, their nuggets and fries are usually pretty good. But man, I had no idea about Wendy's! Came right out of left field!
Awww your daughters little southern accent is adorable! Also I used to get a happy meal before work like every week and I would leave the little toys in the back room haha
Just saying I love Chick-fil-A "toys" I remember when I was little they gave out Adventure in Odyssey CDs and it made me fall in love with the audio series and they had CDs for the Magic Treehouse. Sorry Matt can't agree🤷🏻♀️ love y'all's channel though!
And their food is the best! Their chicken tastes the same if you microwave it leftover. In McDonald’s nuggets, the chicken disappears in the fridge and you’re left with just the breading 😳 That’s just not right lol
Chick-fil-A used to have toys. I worked there for 6 years in the early 2000s and they used to have VeggieTales keychains and Cow Dental accessories. They pride themselves on their educational toys.
Yeah, for a while it was kids bop CDs, but then it got worse and some Karen in corporate snagged control over the toys and it just was disappointment from there for toys at Chick-fil-A 🥲- but they had a play ground and made up for it with the free ice cream! Going up to what I thought back then were adults- asking for the free ice cream was like the coolest thing as a kid.
Culver’s has a great kids meal but no toy. Instead you get a coupon for a cup of chocolate or vanilla custard and one topping like butterfinger, sprinkles, cookie dough, reeese’s or whatever. It’s comes with milk as the drink but you can substitute any drink like sweet tea. It’s a decent meal for an adult and maybe $7 or so.
Oh those Mickey toys are from over a year ago! I actually collected those because I’m a Disney fan those are not recent toys! I wonder if they ran out of sonic ones and just started digging in the store room for what was left!
5:48 Am I the only one that thought the glasses made Matt look kinda like Macho Man Randy Savage?? :) Would have loved to see Matt's daughter in more of the video.
I went to Chick-fil-a a lot as a kid, and Chick-fil-a used to let you trade in the toy for a small ice cream cone. I don't know if they still do that, but it was awesome.
I work at CFA and I gotta be honest - I’ve no clue why people think we have small cones. We just have one size (which can vary drastically depending on who makes your cone). Pro tip: ask for a large cone and they might give you one. If someone specifically requests a large cone, I will give them a heckin massive cone.
@@joshuabenson2600 how long have you worked there? Because I’m fairly certain that in our market at least we had at one point (could have been more than a decade ago) a kids size and a regular size. I do know (caveat again at the two stores own but the same manager in my town) that if you got a cone in place of a toy it was one size but if you ordered one it was like twice the size. It didn’t matter what time or which store you were at, so that had to have been trained b/c it was super consistent
Regarding Matt's story about trading a book for ice cream, I was a kid who LOVED to read. I devoured books like it was my job. Scholastic Book Fair day was my favorite day at school. If you gave me as a child the choice between book or ice cream, _I would still choose ice cream!_ Book is for personal time! Meal time means I get a sweet treat for dessert and THAT MEANS ICE CREAM! Dinner time is not reading time!
I remember working at Chick-fil-A for three years, and I get so bad putting books inside kids meal bags in the drive thru. I knew those kids didn’t want that garbage 😂
I'd have preferred books with a kid's meal when I was a kid - just at a higher reading level. Something like the text of the Constitution or about sports. Do you remember those McDonald's History of the Super Bowl magazines? Something like those. McDonald's gave them away with something. I read the crap out of those things.
@@cisium1184 I was the unfortunate kid who had a leave 13 reading score in like 4th grade. So i was put into advanced classes, summer reading programs, made to read US Flag code while kids my age were reading captain underpants and Harry Potter. The last thing I wanted as a surprise was something else to read 😂😂
@@MrRkaperak Shakespeare and Lloyd Alexander were they only ways I could escape back then. I'd happily take the discarded books when my younger siblings got them while I ate my $1 menu sandwich and drank my water.
@@MrRkaperak I read at the highest level in third grade, above college level, and no one ever made me read Flag Code! WhAaT even is that?! I hope life has improved for you in adulthood
When Matt stated that the USA did not have kings or queens I had to state: what about high school Prom King and Queens, Miss America, Miss USA, Madi Gras King, etc.
I'd say Arby's doesn't really have a kids meal, just some kid sized food items for sale. Also, I love how Matt hated all of the Wendy's food but gave the kid's meal 2nd place just because of the Crayola bag & toy. I think that makes Crayola 2nd place, not Wendy's ;)
I remember when Burger King gave out Star Wars toys and watches when Revenge of the Sith came out. One Christmas, my mama got me a bunch of the collectables. I still have them somewhere. Good times.
@@michellebarnhill5130 I'm STILL using the Jungle Book plastic glass I got when they had the Disney Classics cross promotion. My sister lost her Beauty and the Beast one. Last time They had glasses was the Star Trek 09 promotion. Real glass. So all 4 of those have stayed in the box. BK used to sell INVESTMENTS.
It's sad what has happened to burger King. My first job when I was 16 was BK way back in 95 and back the food was delicious, we stayed so busy we never had less then 10-12 people on crew at a time, and didn't have those weird king Jr. Meals. Now the food is terrible, you're lucky if there is 2 people working, the kids meals are a joke, and all but 2 of ours have gone out of business.
The child who gets the kids meal Matt just had from Burger King is going to probably cry at the sight of the “nuggets”. And will learn how to go demand new ones from that BK manager. Because whoever bought the meal should be doing that!
@@SamanthaGCox - yes, I figured. My kids are grown and I’ve dealt with far worse kid meals! Matt’s commentary as a comedic adult does make you wonder how a child would react though. And I would ask for new nuggets if they looked like this. 🤷🏼♀️
This is the best "Bless Your Rank," yet! Matt's jokes had me rolling, nonstop for the whole video! 🤣🤣🤣 I agree with Matt; Burger King used to be really good. I loved the BK Kids' Club comics! It is really sad that so many fast food restaurants have lowered their standards in the quality of the food for the kid's meals. 🤔 Then again, this is fast food that we are talking about, so.... Fun Story: Jack-in-the-Box used to be one of our favorites growing up. They used to have kid's meals. My brother loved it so much that he wanted Jack to come to our house for his 5th birthday. He wrote a letter to Jack and my mom sent it off. Jack, being a cool guy, responded to my brother saying that he was sorry he couldn't make it to the party. But he sent a bunch of Jack toys, a signed birthday card and some gift certificates for free food! My brother was so happy! Those were the good ol' days (of the 90's, haha) when restaurants cared about customers! Anyway, I was most surprised that Matt put WENDY'S in second place!! Did not see that ranking so high on the list! This just proves that, yes, Matt is a big kid and, like most kids, he will pick a favorite because of how much he likes the toy! 🤣🤣🤣
BK seems really hit and miss depending on the store. Our local one is awesome and has a great staff, but others.. not so much. I will say that it's hard for most fast food places to touch a good double Whopper. Plus their breakfast sandwiches are on point, so kudos for that.
