Ranking My LEAST Favorite NASCAR Paint Schemes of 2023

It's crazy to me how somebody drew these, showed them to everyone required to approve a scheme, and nobody said no

I like the Out of the Groove scheme it just reminds me of a summer sunset

As someone who works in graphic arts (even interned with RCR), I've had to do my fair share of horrible artwork for customers who don't know the first thing about art. It sucks when you spend time on artwork that looks awesome only to have the customer ask you to shoehorn some other crap that looks horrible. That's the design they usually go with too. I imagine sponsors are subject to the same... lapses in aesthetic judgement. Especially when there are more than one being prominently featured.

Next time a race is going to fall on April the first, can we get a race where every team designs and runs the ugliest scheme possible? I'm not even sure advertisers would hate the idea. It'd certainly be talked about

Frankly McDonald's these days is all about modernization, which unfortunately involves making most of their restaurants grey buildings

The Phoenix 2 version of split DeWalt/Rheem was worse because they kept added in the red on the side making it less cohesive

The Stealth Bomber McDonald’s scheme eventually grew up but I definitely agree it was a step down from last year’s scheme. Hopefully next year’s design is able to capture some of the magic of the 2022 scheme.

Bottom of the heap this year for me would be... 3. William Byron's HP Z scheme from the Roval; 2. Bubba Wallace's McDonald's scheme; 1. the LMC No.42 Sunseeker Resorts scheme driven by Noah Gragson. All have one thing in common - drab, ugly, lifeless, CORPORATE grey. Also, nice reference to one of my favorite SpongeBob episodes!

Maybe I'm biased as a Truex fan, but I loved the Reser's scheme he dominated and won Loudon in. Definitely pain to see it make this list

Geez.. i completely disagree with 9 AND 10. I liked both of those schemes 💀 Bubba's looked modern, and Bell's looked futuristic

I'm kinda shocked that Byron's Z HP sponsored car wasn't in this list. I feel like that scheme was much worse than the hamburglar car.

I had this same issue. Actually waiting on the belt to arrive. I take the dryer apart every year to vacuum it and clean all the lint out and then replace my vent tubing too so when mine just clicked I disassembled it and bam, no belt. I’m glad it was simple to fix.

Most of these schemes you mentioned did end up on my least favorite paint schemes list because of how hideous they look, but one scheme that you mentioned that I don’t mind that made it to my favorites this year is Chase Briscoe’s MVP car. Some of the rest I didn’t include since it’s only 1 per number/driver, but I do agree with one of the poor designs and questionable stuff on the car like Ryan Preece’s car with the QR code. 😂

The McDonald’s isn’t too bad, it just looks like the inspiration went from happy meals to are y’all hiring I will say this though, as you went through the list, I’ve come to the realization that bad schemes in the next gen era isn’t even close as bad as the gen 6 and before. A bad scheme from truex in the next gen is no where as bad as a bad scheme from 2021 and before. Something I’ve notice the last 2 years

Stenhouse Jr's paint schemes always disappoint every year. Like can Stenhouse and his team do something to stop making it to the top 10 worst paint schemes.

Briscoe and Blaney's dishonorable mentions I actually kind of liked. I like that Dewalt and McPuke scheme too in 9th and 10th.

@ericestepp I thought of the out of the groove car in Darlington was good looking one because I got my name on the car 2 I seen it in person it was one the best schemes at Darlington not the best scheme but for me it’s a top 3 for sure

My least favorite paint scheme this year was easily Almirola's #10 at Bristol. The one where the front half was Smithfield and the back half was IHOP. It looks like they had two separate wraps, cut them in half and Frankensteined them together right down the middle. Ick!

To be fair, Food 4 Less is pretty strict about their branding, (worked with them for a charity event,) and it is NOT Velveeta yellow. They would never have allowed it to be adjusted to match

I agreed with #9 Bubba. But should have been higher. It’s like hey the front and hood look awesome, let’s go home. Perhaps the guys that designed Bubba’s front and hood should get with the #47 Valveeda guys and work together on a car.

Honestly, you showed a clip last week how kyle busch had 15 schemes this year. So with JTG, you gotta like the creativity. Cause they run almost a different scheme every week. So they bound to have a few off ones. JTG has some dedicated partners and the gonna do what they can to make sure all of them represented.

I do like the idea Abba Coliseum type race for the class I wouldn't be opposed to one of the tracks that are not used today in NASCAR such as Rockingham but I do like the idea of them building a track inside a colosseum no matter which Colosseum it is and take it everywhere where there's not a track already

So, the 47's hood FOOD4LESS is an actual store. That's why the hood number and roof number match but aren't the same as the Velveeta.

I find it funny how there tends to be a Willy B scheme in both lists every year.

I respect your opinion on the Hamburglar paint scheme, and I have to agree with the McDonald’s primary scheme, it should be red, white and yellow, not gray. That scheme does not make me want to get a Big Mac, it makes me want to go eat something else.

I was worried when I saw the title of this one as a Bowman fan, he did not make your Top 10 so I was worried here, and was happy he did not make this list. It's kind of how I feel about his schemes, kind of middle of the road. I liked them but did not love them (Although yes I did order both die casts, LOL) I also so badly want a signed current die cast of Bubba Wallace but I cant bring myself to do the McDonalds grimace one, I think it sucks. I just dont like it, so I will wait for something else.

William Byron’s last two Axalta schemes deserve dishonorable mentions. Just change the paint scheme if you want to modify it. Taking stuff off of it just makes it look incomplete.
