Top 10 Worst NASCAR Paint Schemes of 2021

In defense of #1, I like the three-stripes slanting down the side, and the Hendrick #24 works well against it. That color honestly does not look so bad to me against black either. I'll concede the sponsor font and the hood are dumb. But I can't see this higher than the Tide Ride, which, let's be real, should be the true #1. Don't put gradients in your paint schemes!!

Honestly, almost every scheme from JTG this year should be on the top 10, they did this thing that had other companies sponsor the back-half of their cars...and it usually doesn't look good at ALL.

The silence after revealing number 1 killed me. The only thing I like about that Byron scheme is the white hood/nose. It shows the rubber marks a lot better. But that’s it.

I’ve been designing custom NASCAR paint schemes for my friends with their choice of number and sponsors. Someone asked for a Ben & Jerry’s paint scheme and it ended up looking an awful lot like the Reser’s scheme we got this year. I now think my designs need work after seeing that scheme in this video.

My favourite drivers are Truex and Blaney, and yet… I can very much agree with those first two picks 😅

The 47 "throwback" is so bad

Personally I love that 18 light green scheme, feels like a “soft friendly” Kyle Busch candy ride. And I literally just picked up the 1/64 diecast of it 😂

i honestly really liked that Kyle Busch's paint scheme. the mint bluish color contrasts well with the rest of the car and the text font looks fancy and kinda what I'd expect from a food company. i think one of the most original schemes I've seen. very well done

that 23 columbia paint scheme is my 2nd favorite of the entire season…

Byron definitely doesn’t deserve top spot on this this. Could’ve been done better yes. But there was definitely worse out there.

Honestly I'm not a Byron/Hendrick fan by any means, but I honestly think that green color just looks awesome. I'd love to see a whole car painted that color.

10: I like it, don't remember it at all, but I think it works for me. 9: The two yellows never really bothered me. 8: Yeah, that was inevitable, can't wait for the 2022 scheme to be the exact same despite the new number placement! 7: I think it works, black I think works well with pretty much any color. 6: That one was probably the 23 I hated the least. Still not good, if that was the best the scheme designer can do, they need a new one ASAP. 5: I think it works with the gourmet candy theme, may not be the Kyle brand, but it works on its own. I kind of think the cacti kind of takes away from it. 4: Same, just completely forgettable, would've been #10 for me out of the schemes here. 3: Vomit inducing, should've been higher. 2: If the rest of the scheme was modeled after a hot dog bun, I think it could've been great or at least interesting. 1: Eh, I don't think it's that bad, I'm not as turned off by green and I kind of like the green shade here. Probably remove the white from the hood and make the hood area the green and the logo black, or if you want the logo to be green make the hood black.

I'm so happy someone finally realised that the Byron Green Axalta car of 2021 was atrocious.

I like that Byron paint scheme better than his primary Axalta scheme.

I like that Kyle Busch paint scheme as its a more classy approach then his usual bright snacky candy type cars,

I honestly really like that byron scheme I’m not biased (too much at least) but I actually like it, it grew on me

Fun fact jtg Daugherty racing had to disable the comments on the Instagram post for the Darlington car because it was so bad and they were getting so much hate for it

I actually like the Byron car. The white hood and nose with black rear end pop even more with the baby food green. I think the white 24 is nice change and reminds me of the old white Budweiser 25 and shines off the green. The green could be a different shade but I overall like this car.

This is going to be my attempt at defending William Byron’s paint scheme. 1. I’m color blind so that yellow doesn’t look that bad 2. Those lines going up the side of the car actually look cool. 3. That’s pretty much it nothing else.

I personally really liked Byron’s paint scheme. Except some of the font. But it is one of his worst paint schemes

Looking back on this I wonder what Eric thinks of Byron's new Raptor schemes

The only ones of these that made my my list were #2 & #3. I liked most of these at least somewhat

I am actually fine with the Cromax scheme, personally, the Oscar Meyer one or the Stenhouse throwback attempt should be first. I am also fine with the Columbia and the Kyle Busch schemes. The reason that I'm ok with the Byron one is because the color is unique with me and the scheme is clean, i like the geometric shapes and lines. But I loved the way you offended it, it made me laugh lol.

See Cutster's 41 scheme is related. The AutoDesk software is what they design to use the CNC machines. I agree could have been integrated better but definitely related.

don't flame me for this, but I'd argue byron's color of the year scheme should be number 3 on this list. I don't think the color is that bad, and it at least has some sort of pattern or design on the car unlike the tide throwback and oscar meyer car.

I think the Pennzoil paint scheme could've been better off with Yellow as primary color, black stripes on the bottom, then put the white part on the back as well as the Menards branding+logo on the back as well. Kinda "plagiarize" the Pennzoil Zexel JGTC Skyline paint scheme, but it was a bit better off to me.

The tide and the oscar myer cars look like the old Pre-Season Thunder paints...

That first Bubba Wallace is honestly pretty cool, but ever still you need sponsor logos to show up on a car. Maybe come back to that next year

Numbers 9, 3, and 1 are my top least favorites out of the ones shown. 9 because the different yellow just bother me a lot, 3 because the lack of anything on the side makes it so bland, and for 1 I won’t wind it at all if they made the front white area black to mach the rest of the car and that would go good with the green, but I very much agree that the white and green don’t go together well.

When did Newman even run that scheme? I cannot recall ever seeing that one before this video. Although, most of Newman's tv time this year was of him going sideways so...

I have to wonder if the Newman car was a backup that they had to quickly re-paint. Does anyone know if he wrecked that particular car? Did he run it at a race that had practice or qualifying and wrecked?

I always look forward to this video, because know 2 of my favorite paint schemes, Blaney's Pennzoil/Menards and the 38 speedy cash is always on the list 😂

I went to the Pocono race weekend excited to see Byron's bright colorful schemes, and they had me see this scheme in person....

Oh my God your explanation explanation of how bad that 24 car is had me rolling laughing lol That was absolutely hilarious and the 24 is 1 of my favorites. But yeah that paint scheme was pretty damn bad lol

On the Custer Haas Tooling/AutoDesk Fusion scheme, the ironic part is that they are kinda related sponsors, with AutoDesk offering platforms to design parts that can be CNC machined on Haas equipment. But totally agree on the Byron scheme.

Honestly I feel the Willy B scheme isn’t the worst because at least it’s not cluttered or Mixed-Matched Colors

The 24 car green is fine, but the design is awful. And the 47 is terrible with the lack of door space and for them trying to pass it as a throwback

I was at Pocono where he ran that scheme and it wasn’t that bad in person. I will say the tenders before the race made it look awful. Funny enough I was also at Daytona where they had that scheme on the old Chevy body it looked way worse on that thing haha

I'm biased for Black-White-Green color combos so I can't really hate #1. I WILL say that it could definitely be improved. The Axalta logo on the hood could've used an outline or some kind of black streak in order for it to stand out, and they could've gotten more creative with the color patterns and streaks on the side panels, but it's not too bad overall.. And yeah nothing could help that Cromax XP logo aside from a complete font-change. This all coming from someone who really isn't a Byron fan either. I think #3 and #2 are definitively worse, but hey, that's all opinions.

Haha I wouldnt say Byron's was the worst on the list design wise but true that color was terrible. It could have been worse though if that color was used on some of those designs I think. Great video though.

In my opinion the Ricky Stenhouse Jr Kroger/Nature Valley paint scheme was the worse. The blue and white with the yellow and green made me want to vomit.

Damn I actually thought Byron's car was really clean. Maybe the green is worse in person but I do love the simple design. That design in red, black, and blue would be a banger too. I'm not a Kyle Busch fan either but something about that pastel green really felt like a throwback to when a majority of production cars rolled out of the factory in some sort of pastel color. I'm surprised you didn't put Truex's really really reallyyy plain matte black with teal accented car on the list. Someone wanted to give the design team a week off I guess. Great video!

I actually kind of liked the color of the year. I thought it was tame and chill, and for the colors they had to work with I think they did a pretty good job. I had it as an honorable mention in my willy b paint scheme video.

The Tide ride was miles away the worst one. The Bryon one was bad, but you said it yourself, different colors on those strips would make that scheme good. There is no color combination that would make that Kroger/ tide work with all the empty space on it. It is terrible

All they had to do on the Cromax was make the base all black and it would've been way better, at least farther up in the list if not off of it. Change the white to black. Who decided to transition to white. Ghastly. (Edit: typo)

If the white was black or another dark color it would work for Byron

2021 did have some bad paint schemes and then 2022 said "Hold my beer".

I honestly do really like the Byron scheme. Electrolyte green is a cool color. I especially like how it contrasts against the black and white. I don’t have a very “in depth” explanation as to why I like it..but I just do. I can see hating the scheme though if you hate the color to begin with. I agree with you on most the other ones. the byron one wasn’t that bad. yes the hood was terrible because of the white but that color with black was decent. I think they got it right with the Raptor car. I’m surprised Chase’s Llumar scheme didn’t make the list. and Stenhouse’s tide car has me worried about the numbers in 2022 just because of all that blank space. can we really expect more funding for teams that struggle with sponsorship?

Larson's car belongs on this list. I've been a fan since he started in Xfinity, but that old, dull, outdated blue scheme is terrible.

I agree with alot of your choices accept the Bubba Wallace one. The point of the scheme is that the two colors represent the scales and color of the fish, similar to how cotton candy is blue and pink. The logo I mean is in black so maybe change it to white, but I still feel like it would be a but of a blur speeding around the track.

I like the hot dog in a bun scheme, but I can understand why it’s in the silver medal spot. Very bland, & boring. More condiments, & maybe it would’ve worked.
