@@opiniyon "the mortal instruments" is basically the most known book, tv series and movie of the trope I was wondering why you didn't mention it. Turns out you didn't know
@@opiniyonwe also can't foget about the even more problematic parrent and kid troupe. Fx. How the mother in back to the future, developed a crush on her time traveling future son. Or in gossip girl when lord Marcus and his stepmother countress Cathrine beaton had an affair.
The French tv show dix pour cent (call my agent, in English) also has it for some reason, it’s the worse experience thinking you like a show/book and suddenly they pull that shit
It usually tanks for me, since in too many cases it's a "fantasy amnesia" that works nothing like actual amnesia. And even in fantasy settings, it's often attributed to head trauma but doesn't work like it. I can believe in dragons but not in the "hit your head again to undo" amnesia.
i usually like the redemption trope but like u said sometimes they just forget about the character actions like chuck bass in gg getting a happy ending after sexually assulting a minor in s1 😐
I disagree. I prefer when it’s simple. As long as a media has complicated aspects, I don’t mind it being paired with a simple romance. As long as it doesn’t ruin platonic relationships
I 100% agree with you on the POC and white person couple trope. I want to see more variety of couples in shows and movies like an Asian (whether East Asian, South East Asian, South Asian or Middle Eastern) ending up with a Black/African person or a Hispanic/Latino.
the secret/evil twin I would say it's the same as amnesia: works for telenovelas & soaps, but not in general mainstream fiction (prime ex: Riverdale and Sherlock, enough with the secret siblings I beg you!)
me personally im neutral about enemies to lovers, half of the time they arent 'enemies', they just dislike each other or it just ends up being a complete miscommunication in the first place, unless we are trying to kill each other i dont particularly care for it unless its very well written 😭😭
Great video! I respect your views but enemies to lovers will always be my personal fave. I forget if you covered this but what about the “Second Chance” trope?
Great video! If you are looking for a recommendation with a great found family, let me offer Lockwood and Co! There's ghost fighting, British humor, found family of course, beautiful cinematography, and more! (also, no love triangle!)
Yessss, I binged it in one day and literally the next day they announced it wasn’t gonna get renewed and I was like, y’all this is one of the few of y’all’s show that is actually good plus I needed answers
friends to lovers is kinda cringe. I don't want friends getting mixed signals. anemones to lovers i actually feel neutral about, I don't love or hate it, i also don't find it realistic....
Hateeeee love triangles essentially all the time (most of the time it’s not even a triangle 👀), it’s just 99% of the time done wrong, it’s especially worse when they just keep making two female characters fight over one male character constantly orrrrrr when it’s siblings, like TSITP needs to sit downnnnn
11:06 omg thats why o stopped watching elite by seasons 3 cuz why were all the friends just sleeping with each other So jarring randomly, almost ooc , like the writers were just throwing characters together
I am most of the times pretty annoyed by the black cat& golden retriever tropes because it seems so unrealistic too me that a person is either this or that And my other thought was that I love how Jane the virgin includes all the tropes I hate but it’s still one of my favorites And btw I really love your content, best wishes from Vienna🇦🇹
a love triangle i really like to talk about is jackie, hyde, and kelso from the later seasons of that 70s show, because in the end like kelso and hyde were both really shitty to jackie and while the show doesn’t acknowledge it enough it’s still interesting for the viewer to notice it all. justice for jackie🤞🤞
4:25 Love Triangles are fun except when they start pitting women characters OR randomly introduce conflict out of nowhere. I liked ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ and ‘Past Lives’ with what they did with the trope.
Heavy on the femme fatale trope, love a gaslight gatekeep girlboss, but no one seems to know how to write it properly which is incredibly annoying, especially in the marvel universe, the weird over sexualisation of Natasha was so??? Like the girl has such an interesting storyline but for 10+ years marvel just did absolutely nothing with it and then decided to do something with it AFTER she died was such a bullshit way to go about it, it’s also the fact that the movie isn’t even really centred on Natasha aswell it’s so heavily focused on the other characters around her, not to mention the poorly done writing about her “dad” and how she and yelena just forgave him pretty quickly about what he did to them, like wtf???
I just hate something predictable, like if I can tell you a loose idea of the plot its predictable, like the trope cant be too tropey, its needs like a twist and turn
About the friend group where everyone's dated each other... I think it's realistic to a certain point, like my friend group has a lot of people who used to date, or crush on, or be attracted by each other (and most of us have at least kissed at some point). But we're pretty queer, and also mostly chill about it, it doesn't involve half of all the drama in these shows. Also it's pretty well known that in lesbian circles everyone has dated everyone else, it's common for lesbins to introduce their exes to each other (in portuguese we call that rebuceteio). So I'm conflicted about it; maybe i think the opposite of what you said actually, that if it was portrayed as more normal, and if it was done more maturely (with less misunderstandings and more respect between people) it could be cool. Also more queer people doing it because that's where this actually happens i feel like. ...even if this kinda contrdicts one of my other beliefs, that they should let more friends stay platonic, and not pair up everyone by the end. But that also bothers me mostly when it's a men and a woman that suddenly fall in love for no reason, so maybe the solution is still to queer it up lol
I do like a good redemption arc but Dan Scott… nahhh never. Truly unforgiveable what he did and I HATE that they tried to give him redemption for it and tried to make me care for him
i hate love triangles they are sooooo dumb i like when the two people meet and they are DESTINED to be together and there is no other person creating an Issue !!!
10:24 Fun Fact: Bengali Detective Novels positioned Widows as villains because they gained power and wealth due to legislation. (Source: The Swaddle) P.S. Horror Movies can’t have enough anxieties about women and children.
wait why do you think devi and ben are problematic /gen i haven’t finished never have i ever so i dunno 🙀 is it cos it’s the whole white love interest over the poc whos more compatible trope?
3:45 I HAVE CONFLICTING THOUGHTS. Of course we should aim for diverse love interests but Indian media somehow forgets non-white people as potential love interests.
I feel like the only example I’ve seen of a closeted gay bully that was handled appropriately, was Heartstopper. (Spoiler alert) Because, Charlie doesn’t forgive Ben and he essentially gets what he deserves even though he says he’s dealing with his sexuality.
