Yes an owner of a company can pay themselves one dollar a year salary and be richer than people who make a large salary if their equity in the company is worth something

@@almgaming186 especially in this guys case the business is just a fake entity to limit his personal liability and to play tax games as he is with his low salary. The business can lease his car, rent his home, give him a company credit card for expenses etc etc. Also liquid assets are an illusion

Interesting you mention the difference in salary being less than the US, I think the U.K. is more condensed as you say and we don’t have vast ranges in salaries like you do in the US, unless you’re like a business owner or influencer

It doesn't matter how much you make. What matters how you manage and invest your money. Some people can make $500k and still be broke.

Simply put its not how much you make but how much you keep. The lowest guy knows hes building equity, less taxes to pay. If he delays gratification he will be set for life in a few years.

The only people I know who have an apple watch paid stupid money that they didn't really have in order to look like they have more. Everyone I know with money have classic/investment watches and those in tech prefer other kinds of smart watches

Not all Apple Watch cost a lot. You have some beginning at $200 something. And depending on the period of the year, you can have them at a very low price (promotion). And even the most expensive one ($749) can be afforded by regular people especially with credit cards.

UK doesnt pay "alot" less. Living, when all factors considered, is cheaper in the UK. Plus remember 35k GBP is like 55k USD.

What am I missing here? A software engineer that makes 40K, A doctor making $55? These salaries would be 4x or more in the states. Also the guy making 17k is the wealthy one with a bakery netting over a mill. All they demonstrated with this is that university is useless, and you should get out and hustle.

What you are missing is that this is the UK, not the US. Here, salaries are a lot lower than US, that’s just the way it is and always has been. But generally the cost of living in the UK is cheaper than the cost of living in the US (unless you live in London). It’s insane how much y’all housing and groceries cost, ours is a lot lower. Ironically, I live in London which is ‘really expensive’ but I visited LA and it’s still outrageously more expensive than here. It’s quite difficult to compare cause of the different COL and currency difference, our tax system is also quite different and we have free healthcare which is part of what our taxes pay for. As a SWE, you can defo make really good money here and as a speciality doctor (basically not a junior doctor) with experience, you can also make really good money. So I wouldn’t say uni is useless. A med degree could never be useless. You just need to know how to make money and use your degree. Hope this provides some context 💕

@@leahmcdermott4189 Yes this is helpful TY. But no, a University degree really is useless, unless it is just a field that you are passionate about. If you took the same $x you spent on your degree, and just invested it in the S&P you would have more money than what the expected income would get you from the degree. Anything that requires years of you life to obtain and has a lower ROI that something that take no time at all(S&P), is financially worthless. LA is very pricy and not a true reflection of cost of living in the states. Lets take a city like Phoenix for example. You can buy a starter family house for $400-$500k, and the average household income is around $120k a year. How does that compare to the UK?

I had a very successful career in media, but it was because of the connections I made, the internships and work experience I had with the College being a launching pad for my career while i was in school. Don't think of university as just the books and classes. It is so much more and well worth it. I graduated with a .nothing who remembers, but I was very sought after for what I learned with the connections I got from being there. Look at the big picture.😎

this is Europe Graham... $ 50k / year is considered a good wage. $ 100k / year is top dog. $ 1 million / year is extremly rare... Don't forget that European don't calculate the same way because of retained earnings by the employer. So a $100k gross costs $ 130k total to the employer... then you have income taxes and might be left with $ 45k in hand Belgium has a 52% income taxes on anything above $ 45k / year...

Graham, the Uk usually pays the same amount for the same profession. For example, a car mechanic will get paid about the same if he's not good and the same if he is pretty good. Employers will pay about the same across the board.

welcome to the UK Graham! .. it's worth pointing out salaries in UK are quite different. Average here is about £35k, whereas I hear it's more like $60-70k in the US.

Well 35k pounds is like 45-50k USD. And actually the national avg in USA income is much lower than 60-70.... That might be closer to the number for a HOUSEHOLD

If I’m not mistaken it has to do with saving money on taxes.. for example, Jeff Bezos only pays himself around $80k/year because it’s a “reasonable salary”. I don’t know much on it but I agree, I’d love to learn more on that aspect of business.

£18k is a weird number to pay yourself. You would usually expect £12,570 and everything else is dividends, directors pension contributions and benefits like electric cars.

@@mrscreamer379 yes its 12570, but thats after deductions, so lets say he pays 500 a month into pension (of which the business can also match for a tax deduction), thats 12k, then 1k a month no tax to pay and a well funded pension.

80k for a software engineer sucks. I know some do it, but i never would. I make 176k. Some i know of make 300k+. Just gotta find the right company.

Comparing US to the UK is like comparing apples to oranges. It would be very difficult to get 300k as a SWE in Europe. Something in the 200k range would already be considered high.
