The communists sounded and looked exactly as you would expect. I really wish they would’ve forced that guy to answer the question about how the government would set prices.
@derekcox6531

Well exactly right. Not just how the government would set prices,but WHO would set the prices,and how are those people going to be kept honest? We know from history that the people setting arbitrary prices in a communist system inevitably suck the life out of the economy …but not for themselves …for everyone else.

I would assume the same as a company trying to make a profit but set their profit margin much lower. The government still needs to cover cost, maintenance and keep some money for development. They just don't need to pay shareholders to make their investment worthwhile

so far EVERYONE I heard talk about welfare usually paint a broad brush and are almost ALWAYS on the outside looking in. i get you'll look at broad numbers and be done but it honestly is dependant on the state and the municipality. welfare isn't a cookie cutter program across the country, so unless people are going to get into the nitty gritty, they need to do a LOT more research. because usually they're missing a LOT of information.

Thankfully my parents and I left the Soviet Union as a baby. So I think that communism has compelling ideas on paper, but it does not work with actual people because people do what is in their best interest. I agree that communism is good for certain professions like artists, writers and athletes because these people get paid a salary for sitting and painting all day (assuming they don't try to create art against the government)

the issue we are facing is - that capitalism aint working well either. It breeds crime and mental health issues, putting people in direct competition with each other, constantly comparing one to another like things will ruin some people. So maybe it is time for peopel to finally realize...extremes are always bad, but a healthy hybrid would be worth a try. Coz lets be real, if we keep capitalism, I dont see how AI wont have higher value as people in a century...they can work more, more efficient, more reliable and probably from some point even more innovative...0 value to human life once that happens and the system will be the same.

Socialism is a hustle, a swindle. It's great marketing, but only fools & selfish narsasists would believe in that system. The reality is that most people don't understand capitalism, thus they don't realize that capitalism/free market is a self regulating system in which people freely exchange their goods and services (value) with others at prices they feel are fair. The more value you bring to society, the more you benefit. Capitalism encourages people to be selfless by adding value to other people's lives to benefit themselves. Socialism relies on selfish people believing they can steal the time, resources, and value of others so they can reap those benefits while not adding much value themselves. Thus, everyone is discouraged from adding more value because they get no benefits. In layman's terms, useless freeloaders think they can contribute little to society while reaping the benefits of those who contribute alot more.... Socialism is retarded

The primary problem with communism or socialism is that no person, or even small group of people, is smart enough nor honest enough to regulate a complex system such as everyone's prosperity. The reason communism and socialism don't work is because the people in charge do not have all the answers, and everyone suffers when they make a mistake (or are dishonest). Freedom to choose is the benefit of capitalism. As many people trying as many different alternatives as possible, with no imperfect being or body overseeing and directing each person's actions. The best ideas are emphazi which leads to prosperity for the most people. Thus, those calling for regulation are wrong. Free markets provide more effective self regulation than any person or small body could
@LibLibertyLibertarian
@LibLibertyLibertarian 9 месяцев назад
💯. The free market is a self-regulating entity. You become wealthier by adding more value to society. Its a system that rewards people not by being selfish but by being selfless. It's a system in which the more people try to be prosperous the more we all benefit.
@LibLibertyLibertarian
@LibLibertyLibertarian 9 месяцев назад
in layman's terms: If your job is heal the sick, the more people you help, the more you get rewarded by payment. Those who create new medicines, for example, can distribute those medicines to more people than any doctor could reach physically. Thus, the doctor who helped more people with their medicine contributed far more value to society than the doctor who was treating people individually even though in the long run its far more work.

Capitalism is far from perfect and needs to be pretty heavily regulated for it to work. But for communism to work even a little, you need absolute authoritarian government... otherwise, the system will just never work as long as humans are part of the workforce because you need an incentive. "Social good" isn't good enough for human nature, it has to be self interest, or in the case of communism since that is removed from the equation, it has to be forceful government control. So I'll take the problems of capitalism any day. It wouldn't even work any other way if you want to maintain our liberal constitutional rights.
@unclestinky6388
@unclestinky6388 9 месяцев назад
Capitalism does not need to be regulated. For the same reason that communism doesn't work - it's the centralization that screws it up. Free markets are self regulating. No one person, or even small group of people is smart enough nor trust worthy enough to craft more effective regulation.

Capitalists need low income workers who don't get sick, don't complain, don't deserve families and maternity / paternity leave, free higher education. This current system relies on poverty or volunteering to provide free labor. Imagine if all these institutions had to pay all the volunteers, the whole system is broken. Volunteers provide free services at the cost of neglecting their own families. The best system is a HYBRID. capitalism combined with socialism that provides for the sick, chronically ill, families, and retirees.

European and western capitalist came into the congo and divided the people via their made up classifications years ago and thru everything into disarray in order to steal those resources while they infight. College and other western institutions, like health systems, set arbitrary prices linked to getting capitalists rich. Capitalism should be allowed, but only with strict taxes the higher u go. Im not speaking on ppl that make 1,200k.. I mean 1mil and up. Once you hit that, we need to go into FDR territory taxwise to bring back the middle class. And force companies to pay their share. Amazon makes a bil, that's $490m in taxes. Also, capitalist turn a blind eye to things because of interconnected interests. The prison industrial complex thrives off this notion

Its very simple - left economics is about representation of the workers within their workplaces. This means, fundamentally, that ownership over how goods are produced (think factories) is not something controlled by one dude or a small group of shareholders. The workers who generate the actual value are the ones who own the company collectively. Capitalism breeds contempt because the owner class wants to pay the workers as little as possible for the most amount of productivity possible, while the workers want to be paid as much as possible for as little work as possible. These goals are in direct conflict and can never be resolved unless the workers are the ones who own the company collectively. The problem with allowing capitalism to run rampant is that there is NO LIMIT to the expectations for constant growth held by the wealthy shareholders. They expect constant improvement and ever-increasing profit margins. This can only be done by tightening the vise of the workers they employ, whether it be from layoffs or stagnating wages, etc. The only logical conclusion of capitalism is the ones in power keep the workers as oppressed as possible without actually sparking them to revolt. None of this is even remotely controversial amongst economists, by the way

The debate you're wanting, is the debate that is usually seen. There'd be no surprises there, literally none. It's also the one of least relevancy going forward too. The over-turn window is favoring the left amokg young people and they aren't just looking at things through a Keynesian economic lens, but it's approaching flirtion with Communist ideals. I'm not even being a fear-mongerer, and maybe it's just a case of zealous progressives expressing disdain at the current situation but still. Make a HH income of only $60,000 per year? Then, at least in my state, you will get enough subsidy from ACA that your net premium for health insurance will be as low as $4.00 per month. Health insurance access is a lie. Make much under $60K with only a married couple, no kids, and you pay $0 for health insurance, less you are going after some Cadillac plan that is gold level with all kinds of added benefits that you will never use (sales tools most of the time for the insurance company).

With just those on top in charge by the time society gets on board and starts making progress, the people at top are gonna be over burdened with all the questions and problems they have to solve. With capitalism, each person/ company is responsible and figuresout the problems themselves, and they work together and make progress much faster than communism would. If you want communism just go to a communistic country and see how it is. Capitalism has it's flaws but it's the best system we have thus far

The truth is that capitalism is a net good for society. Yes it played a huge role in slavery and in ending slavery. I have a job, a home, food, etcetera because of capitalism. I also get mailers every day for 30% interest credit cards. Thats capitalism encouraging me to get into crippling debt. By the way, i have no debt.

The "benefit programs can be lost if you make to much, therefor benefits are bad" idea is a broken argument. That just means that the method of cutting off those benefits is bad, not the benefit program itself... I'm not saying that providing those programs is good or bad, just that the argument she used is kind of dumb...

i hate the idea of nationalising healthy pharma companies. there are so many pharma co that go out of business that could taken by the gov instead of taking successful companies away.

Not a good video… they are not the people I would gather to have this conversation. They gathered stereotypical individuals, not people that have the knowledge to have a deep conversation from where you could have some good insights
@rayr6278
@rayr6278 9 месяцев назад
There is insight in gathering random influencers to have this conversation because it provides insight into how these influencers (who have influence over a large audience) think. I provides them discourse to measure their beliefs in the contest of public opinion. You might not find incredibly educated takes or robust ideas, but any debate is insightful, any discourse provides us a look into what/how they think. Then we decide what is rational, what's belief, what's ignorant, etc.

Well said Graham. Wanting communism or socialism means insanity. I always dream of society where pharmaceutical and housing price are not regulated or capped by state. Really hate it when people blame capitalism instead of their lack in skills or talent. Happy new years, hopes the world in 2024 will be more capitalist and see downfall of socialism! 🎉🎉🎉

You can’t grab a 20 year old communist and have her debate a 40 year old capitalist. Have professor Richard Wolff come and argue about it with another economist who prefers capitalism. Two educated economists, not random people.

Capitalists make some of the really stupid talking points. Crapitalist logic : A moderately prsoperous Socialist country with a strong government control of capital and central economic planning, shouldn't be called Socialist, if it is part of globalized market. The credit should be given to Capitalism. Eg : China But the failure of a Capitalist country without much regulations, and without strong government intervention and without any central economic planning, shouldn't be called Capitalist, and also failure should be blamed on Socialism. Eg : Almost all the third world countries.

China: pretty much all economic metrics improved significantly since they had economic reforms (opened their markets) in 1978. For example: poverty went from 95% in 1980 to 0% now. Call the system like you want it but open markets work (vietnam has a very similar story). 3rd world countries: again you can call them capitalist or whatever you want, but if you look at the degree of economic freedom, they are most likely not economic free. If you want a good case study: singapore. It is currently the most economic free country in the world. Now, I am not arguing for a complete capitalist country. However a base should be a free economy as much as possible with some welfare programs layered on top of it. Switzerland would be a prime example in my opinion

Pink shirt says pharmaceutical companies should be nationalized, but one of the biggest problems with the medical system is so much of it’s already regulated by the government. Over time it is become much more expensive and much less accessible, mostly due to government over regulation. Nationalization would make it far worse. Just look at all the empty hospitals in Cuba, or more recently, the UK not allowing its citizens to go elsewhere for care.

This is why you go to college. Graham, you are very ignorant on what Capitalism and Communism is. There is no such thing as pure capitalism, except in Congo and Somalia at one point. The whole western world is part capitalist part socialist, some more than others but pure capitalism doesn't exist in the developed world.
