You could 100% check controller firmware at tournaments. All you need to do is regulate which versions of firmware are allowed at the tournament for each controller type (OEM/Phob/Frame1/B0XX/Goomwave) and have a script that runs on a laptop(s) for check-in's to validate the firmware/code. If your firmware is out of date, or it detects unregulated code, they can ask if you'd like to update your firmware or leave lol.
And no custom controllers ever unless it gets popular enough to start being in that list which it never will because nobody can use them in tournaments?
It's like any other sport. There needs to be regulation on what you use. Tennis for example. You can't just show up with a random custom Tennis racket. It has to follow specific regulations to ensure fairness and consistency in competition. Size/Shape, String Length and Tension, Hitting Surface Size, String Pattern, Material, Technology etc. You can still have "custom" controllers, as long as it fits within the regulations. The issue isn't custom controllers, it's lack of regulations and a governing body.@@jiaan100
Just an important note: there are currently no firmwares available for the frame1 other than what is provided by frame1 directly. That said, the nerf that prevents the peach ledgedash is something you can tweak in DIY firmware, and has been done on some Arduino based controllers. As far as I am aware, this tweak has not yet been performed at scale for pico based controers, but there is nothing explicitly preventing people from performing this tweak.
2:34 WE NEED MORE MELEE PROS TALKING ABOUT THIS. MELEE IS PAY TO WIN BECAUSE UCF IS NOT DOING ITS FULL JOB. GIVE US REMAPING, GIVE US 1.0 CARDINAL. WORK ON A SOFWARE FIX FOR PODE, SNAPBACK, AND CALIBRATION.
@@SKITZ_MONEY When you bring that up people people will say "oh, that should be banned. Any and all remapping is cheating whether it be software or hardware". I think it's a ridiculous opinion, but that's where a ton of people stand on the issue. They literally think that tap jump toggle, z-jump, and tilt-stick are features that will break the game, even though PM/P+ and Ultimate have all of that and it's fine.
@@embly2319 it is already too integrated into the community (I am a b0xx player and if u have been to a local you know how common b0xx players are). The only thing we can do as a community imo is buff the gcc by allowing z jump which is currently allowed but gated behind a paywall/top player privellege.
Kinda wanna hear his opinions on controller legality. I liked where he was going it seemed way more nuanced than Twitter discourse Oh also the editing was goated felt so easy to watch.
my uncle used to own a gamecube and i took his controllers and also he gave me his wii so the first smash i played was brawl and now i play melee and i found out that i have found the most perfect oem ever no literally had no problem except for the stick being insanely responsive because it was loose
Sadly its been like this even in the old days, hording controllers w best dashback etc . It's only worse over time. Always been a problem and sometimes makes me quit the game!
Why does history repeat itself self I remember when people said arcade sticks was cheating in 2012 now in 2022 or 2024 people saying hit boxes are cheating dang
I don't know what any of the controller slang means, but magnets sound really cool. Like imagine you walk up to your friends house and go, yeah *sniffs* my controller has fucking magnets in it. Like what kind of person do you have to be to go that extra mile? Cause I wanna be that kind of person rn
Ah was hoping you’d get into the niche shit with OEMs (Regular T3 vs JP white longevity from fresh, etc). Phobs look so promising though. Godlike video. Loved the editing.
I couldn't agree more when you talked about pay to win. Been using OEM for ages and it's just ridiculous seeing that people can just have a better time because they spent $600 AUD.
after beeing annoyed by controller degrading, the amount of money you have to spend for them and starting hand pain i bought a b0xx and never looked back. best decision of my life
I still don’t get the idea behind imposing hardware limits on controllers. Why do players want to LIMIT other players’ potential? Isn’t the whole point of a competitive game to reach the absolute pinnacle of what is possible?
that's why hax has been saying add perfect wavedash to the game as a software mod. gatekeeping that consistency of a perfect wavedash behind a b0xx or notches is pretty lame
great video. I hate so much how this game has become so geared toward pay to win. Ive been stuck with shitty OEM's my whole melee career and truly feel its holding me back. My current modded OEM controller which I paid $300 for from a known modder and waited months for still has multiple problems and can hardly waveshine or wavedash to the left. Half the time my uptilts don't register, or other moves just don't register then I get punished for it and just die and get taunted in slippi like they think they actually did something lol. I'm super tempted to try out the new phobs with the magnets because sadly when all the super committed players have perfect controllers and mods it makes playing them even harder with a shitty controller. Anyone have any recommendations on best places or person to buy a phob from? and if they have one or if its worth it?
As a B0XX user, I agree with it being goated except for the software it uses. F1 out the box has better angles than the B0XX and does not lock you out of inputs so it makes it harder to mash out. And testing this out, it is true and sucks lmao the only workaround it is to flash the Crane software to remove the changes and keep F1 and B0XX at an even playing field Also, Sanwa casings with Gateron switches sound and feel WAY better than the caps that are used on the F1 lmao
