Grubby theres a creator that Im sure you are aware of called winter for starcraft 2. He has a series called the low apm challenge where shows how to play each race as a complete beginner. He specifically talks about what you should do as a beginner and what you should not even worry about even if it is important and commonly done by better players. I don't know if you would have fun making something like that but its what got me to actually play PvP starcraft. Maybe it would be a good idea for a series of videos. Edit He starts a smurf accout and plays against people but he measures and trys to use as little apm as possible to show how a new player would go about trying to win
There are others in sc2 who do that like PiG, but I think all of them have a lot of experience with coahcing low level and beginer players, experience that are neccesary and I don't think grubby has. Also there just isn't enough audience for that, the wc3 playerbase is soooooo much smaller, it is not comperable and there are very few new players coming in, so it just wouldn't worth it
Grubby has brought meaning to this game for me, to me WC3 was just building and training every unit and going to huge battles with them, and also the storyline, but all these layers of micro and macro skills make it all so interesting, and the combination of troops and heroes. I'll revisit the game for sure
Would love a vid that dives into when each race can set the pace. You mentioned here that as Orc that you can only really set the pace against Undead, and effectively that Human and Night Elves set the pace against Orc. A vid covering that, maybe with a chart for a visual would be really interesting and useful.
I loved the Orc vs Orc mirror discussion, that was 10 minutes of pure gold. As well as the 37:20-42:00 bit about your history with the Orc vs HU, HU vs Orc thing. Honestly, I wish you could do a whole hour storytime about just one of these matchups in minute detail, prepared Day9 lecture style!
After playing RoC campaigns back in early 2003, before TFT was out yet, I want to play online and was like: "Wait, what do I play?". There's a peon portrait on my profile and was like: "Oh, that'll do".
Your editor is awesome. The black and white cutscene with the death knight and siege tanks and necropolis was so unnecessary but made the video so much better 😂
that number 1 spot, i kinda knew that would happen here, but it was still fun to listen to everything you said and your perspective on the games match ups :)
Bit of an out there question, could you make a quick analysis in the how the meta for Reign of Chaos was? No tavern, no shop aside from the neutral ones, and even armor advantages being switched around sounds insane, but I don't know to what extent it affected people's plays, as well as lacking the knowledge we have about that version in 2024. I think it would make for a very interesting video. I love your content, keep it up!
Orc is probably m yfavorite to play but I love the atmosphere of playing UD. Kind of reminds me of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 necromancer play where you feel like you're growing power every battle like a point gaining system. Of course the campaign where you start raising liches with the artifact. In HOMM3 necromancer is broken though so when you play competitive you take a huge nerf to play them.
100% agree about the importance of the best mirror matchup consideration. I loved playing Terran in sc2 because even tvt has tons of cool big moments with tanks blowing up infantry. ❤
undead vs. undead sucks even on a casual level. I remember one time where I was playing one of the warchiefs campaign scenarios and there was that beautiful, extremely fun and engagin moment where I was basically watching 2 undead armies on a blight whale at each other for 10 minutes straight without either army making any progress, like ... *at all* . I eventually ended up winning because ... well ... its the campaign, lol. But it is honestly hilarious how two undead armies are literally incabable of killing each other through the healing of blight + DK + statues, the constant summoning of skeletons and every friggin unit having at least one other ability that can help them stay alive (ghouls and abominations can eat, fiends can burrow, gargoyles can just casually fly away and heal up in statue form, ... and every single time something actually dies, thats another two skeletons in your face)
Yeah I personally am also not a big fan of mirrors, most of the time they're not nearly as interesting as other matchups, no matter the game/genre. Since I was a kid the thought of a mirror matchup has given me the "bored" debuff.
So for undead versus undead matchup It's a mirror match in a mirror match up so both sides use the same heros and units where in other mirror there will be different unit and hero openings
True that, I dislike mirrors in general because it's a sort of self-reflection, no pun intended. And I'm not always ready to see how crappy I am with the race/faction the other guy is also using. lol Can't cope and blame the faction differences in this case.
So cool that it is based ob your enjoyment of the matchups and not the balance! Tho the balance still play a huge role in enjoyment 😁 How about WC3 “Era’s” tierlist? Like when you enjoyed WC3 the most and the least, like 2000’s 2010’s 2020’s and maybe devided by patches or esports eras? 🤔
I tried playing WC3 I'm just awful it looks easy when I watch you play but my execution is just terrible I lost to silvermoon undead campaign mission. :(
I don't know why people don't like mirrors, I always been a huge mirror fan. My favorite match ups where (both when it came to playing and watching): #1 Human vs Humans #2 Humans vs Orc #3 Human vs Undead #4 Undead vs Undead #5 Orc vs Orc #6 Orc vs Undead
Recently there's been a SC2 mod that adds in the SC1 races. Do you think theres a place for a similar mod for WC3, adding WC2 / WC1 humans and orcs? Or even another SC2 mod that (somehow) adds in WC3 races and mechanics? Now that'd be real silly.
Today, Grubby: 4 races, so it's 16 matchups. Tomorrow, Blizzard: we make a hard decigion, implement to a game balance from map called "23 races" Grubby: ok, so it's 529 matchups, prepare for a long video.
@@theMichaelFFF Because your logic to wanting it to simply is exactly what brought people to think there were 10 matchups in chat. Randomly throwing formulas only works if you understand the situation and I guarantee that your 4by4 will always get counterargumented by one of those guys
@@Luca48882 no, lol. Those people who get 10 understand situation superior to yours. They just missundestand Grabby about "A vs B" and "B vs A' counts as different matchups.
@@theMichaelFFF Jesus. It's funny when you pretend like you're smarter but you fail so hard to understand the situation that you're wrong, just like the guys who said 10 were. Random highschool formulas don't work if you're so full of yourself. The fact they misunderstood means they randomly threw a formula thinking they're right without considering and they did it because they thought they were smarter just by knowing such a common idea. But they were wrong. So no, they were wrong. Fullstop. And so you are. You're saying that you, like them, are not wrong but you only are because of x. That's not how logic works
I came back to this came not too long ago, I'm still pretty bad at it. However I decided to play NE because I like Panda and Panda goes well with NE lol
I had an idea that is genius or trash, you should take an iconic match from WC3 history, and have the first half of the video be watching the replay and the second half be the top 10 most important decisions made by the players according to Grubby, its basically infinite tier lists if you think about it
same, I played both starcrafts and warcraft3 and there wasn't a single mirror I liked in any of them. They are (almost) always boring, one dimensional and very snowbally
Love the videos! Going to use this to prep my matchups. Small bit of feedback for the editor - the slow zoom is very distracting. Should be very minor or no transition at all to a full face shot, look at Ludwig videos as reference.
I despise the mirror so much that I've been a 2v2 player since 2003, just to lower the chances to have a perfect mirror. Still, 2 undead vs 2 undead can happen. But still better than 1v1 ud to my taste.
I also have a hard time believing that OvN is enjoyable 🤣🤣🤣 but that's because i tapped out of following WAR3 for like 10+ years. All I remember is Talons vs Walkers where NE has like no damage beside the DH and Samuro is perma spinning. The only thing that actually move healthbars is Cairne wave.
can you do a video where you tell us what we should be doing in the game? like my biggest issue is I am out on the map, but there is no point to what I am doing. or i am doing minimal damage
Do you also enjoy if you get a mental edge over the other player with trash talk and the oppo gets tilted that way? Or is it more satisfying via gameplay? For me it is definetly the second one
Hey grub, i had an idea while watching this - is it possible to Spirit Link peons in your main base while simultaneously fighting on a different front to soak damage mapwide?
@@The-jy3yq Practical use could be - a spirit Boi pops out of the lodge, links the workers, then heads towards the main army/engagement, effectively adding over 1k hp to the soaking pool
