Ranking the JOHTO Cities and Towns! 

Azalea Town’s music is the official theme of hiding under the sheets and playing games when you should be sleeping. It gets an S-Tier for that.

I'm with you for 95% of the ranking but I'll admit I'm probably the only person in the world who ranks Cherrygrove City as the best Johto town. It's beautiful, quiet, near home, and on the beach! Plus it has my favorite town tune and my other favorite tune (the tour/tutorial theme). With my headphones in it was my preferred spot to fish or just sit and pretend to be in the Pokémon world. That, and I was always returning to rematch Youngster Joey and his top percentage Rattata!

I love New Bark Town so much it‘s just the coziest little hometown. Where your real home is and the atmosphere is just so adorable

Love Azalea because of the music! But Goldenrod is a close second because of all the features. Great tier list!

I love Azelea Town as well but I don’t see a reason to return to it, yet it was ranked in S while other towns that had limited return value were ranked lower

I think I like Ecruteak the most. Classical style buildings, Kimono Girls adding to it, history of the towers and Bellchime trail super pretty 🍂🍁🍂

I love this! Tier rankings in-between the massive Region videos is not only likely a great break for yourself, but helps bridge the gap between your behemoth videos! I would personally love a Tier list of each Region's Pokémon too since its always fascinating to see how much each individual person's list varies. You could even go through Gym Leaders/E4 in terms of team composition/difficulty/enjoyment if you wanted 👀 Lovely seeing more Sabrina content before the Hoenn dissertation haha 😁

While I love Azalea Town the most for it's atmosphere and music, I'd probably live in Ecruteak. It's quiet and peaceful, yet centrally located, making travel easy if needed. Plus the history, the theatre, and being home to the first gym of my favorite type, all big bonuses in the "best" column.

The 3 best cities for me are definitely Goldenrod, Ecruteak and Olivine City. Goldenrod City a classic with the changed bike music, the underground and Whitney as the gym leader. Then in the later game also the finale with Team Rocket. In Gen 4 I also like that you have to wear a Team Rocket outfit to sneak into the radio tower. Ecruteak City is the best city from the lore. All legendary Pokemon except Celebi are thematised and also has the most story points of all cities in Gen 2. With Suicune and Ho-Oh 2 legendary Pokemon battles. The music is great and the kimono girls have cool fights with the Eevee's. Especially in Gen 4 also a good challenge. And Olivine City has the best music of all the cities in Gen 2 for me. Jasmine is my favorite gym leader in this Gen. Also with the story in the lighthouse. Was really happy to see her in Platinum. But there are also a few cities that I don't like so much. Mahogany Town in particular seems so boring to me. Of course it has the Team Rocket quarter , but I would have found it better if they had stuck with the beta idea where the place was connected to the Lake of Rage. Cianwood City is not the biggest highlight after cities like Goldenrod or Olivine City. It does have a Suicune spot and in Gen 4 also the entrance to get to the Safari Zone, but I never found the city itself that crazy. But the region definitely has more highlights than trash.

If you are an Azalea town fan, look up Braxton Burks' version of the Azelea town theme. And then looks up the rest of his Johto album. And then look up everything he has.

Yeah I think I'd rate them pretty similar. Goldenrod and Ekruteak for sure for S tier. Goldenrod has probably my favorite tune in Gen 2, plus like you said there is SO MUCH to do there. Ekruteak, I love the old Japanese aesthetics and the story with the two towers. And I agree the Bellchime Trail in Gen 4, beautiful, easily the best redesign in the entire game

Johto isnt my favorite region, but Ecruteak City is probably the city od MOST want to live in out of ANY regions cities!

Personally, whenever I rank locations in the Pokémon series, I love to compare them to the real-life locations that they're based on as part of the consideration. Some fit really well in this regard, and others not so much. For some of the ones that really work, there are actually many Japanese Pokémon fans who refer to where they live as cities from the games, such as people from Osaka saying they live in Goldenrod. A good fit can really make a difference, although a really imaginative take on an obscure, dull, or non-existent location like Azalea town can also be really cool. I think that the Johto region is the most inconsistent of the pre-gen5 regions in terms of representing the real-life locations, as there are way too many that don't fit, and many locations that would seem obvious to include, but are conspicuously missing. The only ones that really work in Johto are Goldenrod (Ōsaka), Ecruteak (Kyōto), and Olivine (Kōbe). The Hoenn region is much better with this, although I'm not quite as experienced with Kyūshū, but I'm very familiar with Hokkaidō, and Sinnoh is pure perfection. With all that said, Cherrygrove is worthy of a Bullhonky rank from me simply on the basis of how personally offended I am that Nagoya was done so dirty.

The best regions all have towns and cities that define them. For me Ecruteak, Goldenrod, and Azalea are that for the Johto region. They're the sort of places that just leap to mind whenever the region is mentioned. They don't have just a marker that stands out, but the entire cities are basically a vibe all of their own. They all deserve S tier. And Gen 4 really did flesh out the region so much more. Those tiny details go a long way.

This is the channel that keeps on giving, Goldenrod to me would be useful to have nearby but to live at directly would be too busy.

Totally agree with the rankings. Ecruteak is also the best base of operations when chasing down Rikku and Entai (and Suicune in Gold and Silver) since you can easily get to so many routes.

Ecrupeak is a marvel of a city, based S tier pick. I think I would move each Mahogany up a tier. There's not much reason to revisit it but the vibes are immaculate. It's the kind of place that I would vacation at for a few days. Something about it haha idk
