In this video, we will be ranking the last 10 Best Picture winners, recognizing the films that have left a lasting impact on audiences and the film industry. These films have been praised for their exceptional storytelling, direction, and performances, making them some of the most memorable films of recent years. We have movies such as "The Shape of Water," a fantasy drama directed by Guillermo del Toro, about a janitor who falls in love with a humanoid amphibian creature. The film's stunning visuals and captivating performances make it a unique and unforgettable cinematic experience. "Green Book," a biographical drama directed by Peter Farrelly, which follows an African-American pianist on a concert tour through the segregated Deep South in the 1960s. The film's poignant themes of racial prejudice and friendship make it a timely and moving story. As we move up the list, we encounter such notable films as "Moonlight," a coming-of-age drama directed by Barry Jenkins that explores themes of race, sexuality, and identity; and "Parasite," a dark comedy directed by Bong Joon-ho that delves into the class divide in South Korea.
Ultimately, our top-ranked film is a masterpiece that will forever be remembered as a landmark achievement in cinema. To find out which film earned the top spot, be sure to watch the video to the end!

My vote definitely goes to Parasite as well. It's a special film that made me, the viewer, look at the world a little differently, specifically when it comes to the people I meet. It's a film that provokes discussion in which you'll never get the same answer (ex: who is in the right, who is in the wrong, etc.), and to top it all off, the film is thrilling, sad, and also funny. A masterpiece on every level.

The birdman script is an original as it gets bouncing from on stage performance to not on stage, about halfway through you genuinely have no idea where the next scene is going, the script plays into its self as unpredictable , it is so unique in my opinion, I can't think of another movie with a remotely similar script

You said something very important about an impactful film, "....It's not a movie I really want to go back and ever watch again but that's because it did it's job." That applies to Parasite, it's like having a fantastic teacher, so precise it's method of teaching, you never need to back to that class again because we were paying very close attention to each lesson.

If any one is interested: Chiwetel Ejiofor, from 12-Years a Slave, also was the lead in a phenomenal 2022 Sci-fi TV series called "The Man Who Fell To Earth." Highly underrated series that, like 12 Years, highlights the downfall and beautiful aspects of what it means to be human from a literal aliens perspective. Season 1 is on Showtime - 9 episodes. Even if you're not into sci-fi, it's incredible.

Birdman (Prefer Whiplash and Budapest Hotel) 6. Spotlight (Every nominee of that year except for Bridge of Spies is more memorable in my opinion) 7. Green Book (Except for Vice, the other movies were better) 8. CODA (A pretty weak year to be honest, West Side Story and Dune were the best) 9. I was actually quite happy to hear that Birdman won Best Picture in 2014😂, so I disagree with what you said about it not holding a candle to Whiplash 😂. But for me the more objective pick would've been Interstellar(which wasn't nominated); because looking back on it, that was a monumental film that achieved some great things with its filmmaking, the thing that amazes me the most is that it was a Sci-fi film that contributed to actual scientific research and gave back to the scientific community. The 2014 nominees were certainly good, but I don't think they're touching Interstellar.

There were better films from 2017 and better films that Guillermo del Toro should've won those Oscars for, but I would rate The Shape of Water higher. An amazing challenging film and a lot of the emotional aspects did work for me. It attempts this unique vision with many underlining messages, the equivalent of a dark authentic adult fairy tale, and a group of misfits with issues putting all of their energy into this one creature, and I think it does so excellently. The entire cast is fantastic and every filmmaking aspect is so vibrant and so memorable that it almost feels like it's ripped straight from a painting. I definitely prefer it over films such as CODA and Green Book. As for Get Out, I wouldn't give it Best Picture either, and I personally don't understand the masterpiece praise it gets nowadays. While an excellent film, I didn't think it was executed amazingly with the pacing, camera work, music, etc, sort of like how The Witch didn't do everything perfectly as it could've with Robert Eggers still getting the hang of film adapting with it being his directorial debut too. There wasn't anything in the film that made me scream masterpiece, Best Picture worthy, or something all that unique and never seen before. Deserved the nomination, but I didn't think it deserved to win. I honestly enjoyed Nope a lot more than Get Out. What I would give Best Picture to that year is something such as Phantom Thread or Blade Runner 2049. Nonetheless, you can't go too wrong with any choice you make in 2017, because that was one of the strongest years in films for me. When flicks such as Logan Lucky are considered near the bottom of people's lists, with how many exceptional films were in the 8/10 and above section, then you know it's a deep year.

Eeaao's message is amazing, it deeply touched me once it got there, but getting there was the issue, it could've been executed a lot better, it has a lot of unnecessary over-the-top-ness and ridiculousness, i left me very ambivalent

i remember watching parasite like a week before the oscars and i had heard all this buzz and thought it couldn't possibly be **that** good (and i'm saying that as someone who greatly appreciates korean cinema) but when it ended i was like.... holy $#it, yeah, that's the one. i also rewatched spotlight recently and that movie is simple compared so some of the others here but the story really grips you from beginning to end, even if you remember what happened in real life.

I would have loved Revenant to have won in 2016. How cool for Iñárritu to win two years in a row?? If not Revenant, it should have been Mad Max though. And I am so glad Moonlight won in 2017, I honestly don't get the hype with La La Land. I saw it in theaters and just thought it was alright

Really fun video Austin! Looking back is quite something...if there was ever a statement that the Oscars have been picking for their time is true, then these past 10 years are definitely a testament to that. I could honestly say that maybe only 3 years have they gone for the most obvious choice; a very interesting group of winners. My Ranking: Less Said, the Better...I just find them VERY annoying: 10. Green Book (...I love Mahershala and Viggo!) - prefer The Favourite 9. Birdman (...I love Lubezki and Stone!) - prefer Grand Budapest 8. Everything Everywhere All At Once (...great fight sequences!) - prefer The Fabelmans Not My Cup of Tea: 7. CODA (Extremely inoffensive, I feel like it should've been more than it was because its heart is absolutely there.) - prefer West Side Story 6. Nomadland (My disconnect is mostly with McDormand, although well-performed, feeling too actress-y for the rest of the cast, whose naturalism is often affecting. Adding to that is that I don't find the cinematography particularly beautiful.) - prefer Sound of Metal 5. The Shape of Water (I so badly wanna love every Guillermo film, and especially one starring Doug Jones & Sally Hawkins and Dan Lautsen's cinematography and the costuming and production design and score UGH, I'm just so unaffected by the actual emotional content.) - prefer Phantom Thread or Dunkirk Fine: 4. Moonlight (One of those modern classics I just can't explain my disconnection from. Laxton's cinematography, Jenkins' writing & direction, Britell's score, all of the amazing performances, the deeply personal editing are all exceptional and lead to numerous terrific, powerful moments. I just can't say it worked for me as a whole any of the 3 times I've tried.) - prefer Manchester by the Sea Good: 3. Spotlight (Does everything just right. Not much exemplary, just all right.) 2. 12 Years A Slave (Most of the film's success comes from Steve McQueen's highly sensitive, restrained direction and Sean Bobbitt's cinematography. Even where it loses its power with the ending, the rest is a really devastating, earned drama.) 1. Parasite (Don't think it's one of the best winners ever (though I haven't seen all of them), but very good anyways. For the first 2 acts, everybody is doing this insane highwire act of being funny and being real yet it's left lingering just long enough for there to be something very dark hiding underneath. A very witty movie yet its surfaces are thorny and potent. Very nearly the best winner of the century.) - prefer Marriage Story or The Irishman

My list: 1. Parasite - unexpected and brilliant 2. CODA - touching and beautifully acted 3. 12 Years a Slave - history lesson on the level of Schindler's List 4. Spotlight - great investigative journalism movie 5. Moonlight - better Mahershala 6. Green Book - solid Mahershala 7. Everything Everywhere All At Once - multiverse weird confusion with hotdog fingers 8. The Shape of Water - fish sex, really?! 9. Nomadland - very slow and not worth repeat viewing 10. Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - too bizarre for me

10. Nomadland (I don’t dislike it but I don’t really care for it and I think The Father would’ve been much more deserving that year) 9. Coda 8. The Shape of Water 7. Spotlight 6. 12 Years a Slave 5. Green Book (I think I’m the only one that like this movie, weak nominees that year tho) 4. Moonlight (Fantastic film, but I’m still somewhat salty about La la land not winning tbh) 3. Birdman 2. Parasite (I will probably go back and forth on this and EEAAO forever, both masterpieces) 1. Everything Everywhere All At Once (It’s still insane that it kept all its momentum and went all the way to ultimately sweep at the Oscars, one of the best Oscar winners of all time)
