1 Texas Flood - On the first listen, this is the only album that has ever made me pull the car over and just listen. Unashamed nostalgic pick for #1. 2. Couldn’t Stand the Weather - After Texas Flood I didn't think it could get any better... then I was introduced to this and was blown away again! 3. Family Style - Hard to explain but there is something magical about this album for me. Always puts me in a good mood. 4. In Step - Only lower because some of these songs have been played to death. 5. Sky is Crying - Stand out track is "Life by the Drop" absolutely love this tune. 6. Soul to Soul - Some great tunes on this album too and the bottom 4 could be changing places any day of the week. Being and 80's kid most of my listening was hair bands up until introduced to Stevie. He was my gateway drug into so many other great artists.

1.Texas Flood 2. Couldn't Stand the Weather. 3. In Step 4. Soul to Soul 5. The Sky is Crying Texas Flood seemed to come out of nowhere and set the gold standard for what a blues band could be, true to the roots and phenomenally popular at the same time.

1. Couldn’t Stand the Weather 2. Texas Flood 3. Soul to Soul 4. In Step 5. The Sky is Crying 6. Family Style I remember walking into my home town favourite record shop in 1984 and they were playing Couldn’t Stand the Weather... l never heard of SRV before and I fell in love straight away. Then I saw him live at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1989. Such a soulful player... he gave everything in every note he played... amazing stuff...

SRV is probably my favorite guitar player of all time. He's one guitarist where I love hearing him but watching him takes it to another level. Usually that doesn't matter to me but he's an exception. SRV and Gary Moore were born to do what they did. Both of those dudes hands looked ridiculously strong.

love the idea of a fallen guitarists show....you could make that two hours easily and everybody would watch it....you mentioned tommy bolin..my all time favorite guitarist....i first heard him on billy cobham's 'spectrum' album..then with zephyr and the james gang..his solo stuff..and of course purple....the day he died is still the most memorable for me...i came home late from a gig..turned on the radio and heard the dj reading the lyrics to ''dealer'...then he simply said '...tommy bolin...dead at 25...'...i was so exhausted..i just lost it...

@@seaoftranquilityprog I imagine it would take some time to consider. It will be interesting to see where you begin your 'dawn of rock music' as it were. Perhaps not until the late 60s? I personally like all of the Beatles albums but not really much else from their time until Cream and Zeppelin came along. Production has alot to do with it too. I perhaps judge the music of earlier times too harshly as the really great sounding recordings to my ear began in about the mid 70s and lasted until the the CD took over. But by then musics golden age was over and by the 90s I lost interest. Still some older bands kept making the odd gem now and again and it's this portion I'm also looking forward too. To find out what I've been missing all of this time. Can't wait Pete!

I have never owned a copy of Family Style, but I do own all of the other five. And I think your ranking of those albums lines up pretty well with mine. There was a stretch a while back where I was trying to learn to play "Lenny". Eventually I gave up, because I couldn't get even close to how the original sounded. And I think it's because this was a song that had a very deep, personal meaning to Stevie Ray.

Great list and discussion. When I first starting watching this video, I think I would have put "in Step" at my #1. I often say that it's sad that Stevie never got a chance to record more albums in a sober state. With that mindset, I put "In Step" at the top. I saw Stevie live the summer of 1990 in Denver only a month and 10 days before his untimely death. But, as you started naming off songs from the different albums, I think about my first SRV album that I ever bought and that was "Couldn't Stand the Weather". So many of those songs are ones that I still go to for my favorite SRV songs. So, my list is as follows 1. Couldn't Stand The Weather 2. In Step 3. Soul to Soul 4. Texas Flood 5. Sky is Crying 6. Family Style I'm all for your special on guitarist that have passed. When you mentioned Tommy Bolin in this episode, my ears perked up since I was just listening to the "Teaser" album this afternoon.
