The Vince Egg moment was definitely very much a “Clap or you’ll be released” to all the midcard wrestlers backstage for that segment. I remember that happened when WWE was still going off the rails releasing everyone due to “Covid budget cuts”.
I listen to Mansoor and Mace's streams sometimes, and they said that's basically what happened. He didn't say they'd be fired but he said "Make some more noise, goddammit, I'm Vince McMahon!"
It's kind of hilarious to do a storyline about Vince being gifted a "$100,000,000" movie prop when he was busy firing real people from their real jobs due to "budget cuts." Imagine how many employees he could have saved if he just sold the egg!
Ugh thank you Brian for reminding me of "Vince's Golden Egg" lol I still can't believe how stupid that was. "We can't get The Rock on the show tonight so here's the next best thing, pal!" 😂
You gotta love how Netflix advertised Red Notice as the number 1 movie on Netflix. Yet I doubt you can find anyone who has watched it or know what it’s about other than it starred The Rock, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.
1:09 Oh my God, yes! I’ve been thinking for years that an examination of Rusev and Lana’s careers in WWE would be so fascinating to hear from your perspective. From the tank that they claim to have had sex in, to the infamous flag match to the League of Nations to the rise and fall of Rusev Day to the Lana/Nia Jax feud to the fact that they were involved in TWO different love rectangle storylines. These two were just MADE for a discussion on this channel!
@@InfectiousGroovePodcast I just looked to see where that Survivor Series took place and I didn't realize how close it was to me, happening in Detroit at the Joe.
It might have been an awful match, but the Mike Knox elimination was so memeable it's almost worth it. Shawn: "Was he in the match?" HHH: "Yes" Matt Hardy: "He was, he's not anymore"
HBK in the mid 2000s was like a lovable version of his asshole mid-late 90s self. You got the humor and occasional pettiness without the rampant drug abuse and politicking.
I understand the reasoning for including the DX vs Rated RKO match, but if I had to pick something terrible from 2006's show, it would have to be the Cryme Tyme/Lita segment. Just a disgusting and shameful sendoff for one of their pioneering women. No wonder she wanted out.
@@kvnprime it's all a matter of opinion. I found it to be very uncomfortable. Alternatively, I thought Vince going into the church and spitting holy water like Triple H was hilarious. Many found that offensive. It's subjective.
From what I heard, The Gobbledy Gooker was supposed to be the mascot for Survivor Series back when it was a Thanksgiving tradition. I also recall the Gooker appearing in promos with the Bushwhackers and a few house shows; but that's it.
5:48 - 5:59 Fun fact, Heidenreich said in an interview that Vince came up with that segment because it came to him in a dream. How would you feel being trapped in a Vince McMahon dream?
Other Fun Fact: The Nazi idea was pitched during a meeting and Vince was so appalled by it, that it's said that he literally got up and left the building without saying a single word. The person who pitched it also made 'See No Evil'... so there ya go.
Gee, Zane just nailed it. They easily could have had a champion v champion match at Royal Rumble which decided whose title main evented Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble qualifying matches between brands, more draft picks. They could have done that as an incentive to something at the very end.
According to Bruce Prichard the Gooker was meant to be the company mascot and travel from town to town with them. But when he was out there dancing with Mean Gene Vince started laughing and said something along the lines of “God, this sucks haha”
Doink then turned on Lawler on the September 26 episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge in Lawler's The King's Court segment, making Burger King jokes to amuse the crowd and eventually emptied a bucket of water over Lawler. Matt Borne, the original man behind Doink, was fired for recurring drug abuses, eventually leaving the gimmick (after bouncing through a few others) to Ray Licameli (also known as Ray Apollo).
With the Iron Claw movie premiering later this month, is there any chance for a classic review for any of the Parade Of Champions or Star Wars shows from WCCW. It would be a great opportunity to show that there were some great moments for the Von Erich family along with the tragedy. Also it could showcase the talents of The Freebirds, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, Bruiser Brody, King Parsons, Jimmy Garvin, The Great Kabuke, King Kong Bundy, The Missing Link, Sunshine, and Teddy Hart. It could be a nice mini-arc to introduce World Class to a new generation of wrestling fans. As always, thanks for the time and effort you put in to create all the great content over the years
I’m convinced there’s an alternate universe where the Gooker is one of the Fed’s most over and beloved gimmicks while Brian is making videos about why Undertaker was hot garbage
According to Mansoor on one of their INSIDERZ TV streams, the reaction to Vince and his golden egg was actually "Take Two" as Vince was so disappointed by the crowd's reactions that he actually got back in the limo and road around the arena again...
7:23 New Meme Alert! Thanks Brian. The counting of the fingers was funny as it was but the bug eyes made it better. Way funnier than the match you were talking about in this segment itself.
Your comedy is so underrated i know it seems like bad jokes but there not the way you say it so casual is amazing its a rare for comedy like goofy comedy when you seem so excited when what your talking about is dumb you make it hilarious i appreciate you sir funny and amazing commentary
I'll be honest, I enjoyed #7 a lot at the time. Survivor Series '06 was the first wrestling show I watched in something like four years and as someone who had no investment in the angles at that point, that clean sweep was probably the most fun and memorable* thing on that show. *except maybe Lita's retirement treatment, which was truly awful.
I rewatched the "Cleopatra's Egg" bits from Survivor Series 2021 a couple of days ago. It's genuienly one of those "so bad it's good" things. It's so funny that Vince based the whole Survivor Series PPV about The Rock's 25th anniversary without The Rock even appearing and just decided to base the show (and the following Raw) about an golden egg that Rock sent him and later the search for the egg.
I think we've all learned from 1990 and 2021 that Survivor Series and eggs don't mix. Also, I would add the Four Doinks aka The Bushwhackers and Men on a Mission in wigs and makeup vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Booger, and The Headshrinkers from the 1993 Survivor Series. Add in the fact that the real Doink (Matt Borne) was fired prior to the event.
I was a fan of the team matches as a kid, then once they took them away when I was older I felt it was just like any other PPV. I guess a mix of the two is best.
Everything RAW vs. SmackDown traditional Survivor Series Elimination Matches were one of the worst moments that I stopped caring about Survivor Series until 2019.
To me the worst would have to be the last survivor series match of 1996. Fake Razor/Diesel Yokozuna, Vader, Jimmy Snuka . It lasted like three minutes and got thrown out
That whole Golden Egg/No Rock appearance charade just reminds me of when Impact Wrestling actually got The Rock at Bound for Glory the year before, when he send a video congratulating and inducting Ken Shamrock into their Hall of Fame.
I remember I was so psyched to see who or what was in the Egg. For weeks it was teased and finally the Survivor Series day came and what happened was one of the biggest disappointment in WWE history
2 things: The Brand Supermacy angles. The LAST one featured Raw winning in a clean sweep despite the fact that SD the week before invaded Raw and looked to have the upper hand...but Raw won in a clean sweep😂. Meanwhile 2 weeks later The McMahon's came out with the BS "You're the authority" segment, FINALLY making the Brand Supermacy crap meaningless. Vince trying to troll us during Survivor Series in 2021 was probably the most dumbest thing he could've done. Him taking that egg prop with him was just him symbolically laying an egg on this show. Just don't advertise or tease Dwayne, if he's not gonna show up at all! It's that simple.
I'm very much a fan of the phrase "Doinks and Doink-like creatures". Like there may be a pig or alligator or something that's wearing a green wig and white facepaint
Honorable Honorable Mention: Team Clay vs. Team Tensai (Survivor Series 2012) Wherein Brodus Clay attempts a T-Bone suplex to Tensai, falls on his ass, and essentially eliminates himself.
Worst Moments in Survivor Series (in no order): The Gobbledy Gooker The Royal Family vs Clowns R Us The Montreal Screwjob The way they removed Stone Cold Steve Austin The battle of brand supremacy between 2019-2021. (There was literally no prize for the winner.) The Egg Lana winning by doing absolutely nothing Eric Bishoff vs Teddy Long Hornswoggle vs The Great Khali John Cena getting fired…..only to not really be fired this entire time.
The best part of the golden egg gimmick to me was Roman Reigns reaction. Completely bored and disinterested until Vince dropped the “100 million dollars” line and Roman in just throw away line fashion says “Almost as much as my next contract.”
What a way for Vince’s last survivor series to go. Golden egg, bad battle Royal. And the next year was one of the best we’ve seen in years with WarGames debut.
Best time they referenced the screwjob was during Punk V Cena at MITB, because the situation actually resembled the Shawn/Bret scenario. however, Cena prevented it from happening..
Yep, the Golden Egg thing was God awful and yet I have tried to forget it. But if The Rock could have been there in person, there could have been multiple ways to do it. Pre-recorded video. Maybe if he was at least not filming something, a live video call, Cardrock! (Works for Jay White). Anything would have been better than that Egg. And if they wanted to do the tie in, just have the movie sponsor on the apron, and have commentary table have each of those "eggs" on it and have it be visible. Just damn it was so infuriating.
Two years ago, Vince was parading around his golden egg, and AEW had debuted Punk, Cole, and Danielson all within the prior 3 months. My, how the tables have turned
Impact managed to get The Rock to send them a video (for Ken Shamrock’s HOF induction) but WWE couldn’t for an event built entirely around him. Incredible
Oh my god in work pissing myself at " think of all the mistresses you could pay off with that!" Hahaha thankfully there's no one else here. One of my least favourite moments was that time big show was in the main event and they tried to give him the yes chants because they thought it was the chant that was over and not Daniel Bryan..I mean, I'm a fan of Paul white but come on that was embarrassing!
Hey Brian. In new zealand someone is promoting a show as wrestling with wregret. Just thought thought you should know? I thought you were coming to nz and then I realized it wasn't you and I felt sad. I have a photo of the ad
I’ve heard a few people say “Vince McMahon won’t make anyone do something he wouldn’t do himself.” I feel like someone should have brought this up on May 23, 1999… :/
#4 was horrible. I lost track of how many times Todd Pettingill hyped up the Doink, Dink, Wink and Pink vs Lawler, Queasy, Sleezy and Cheesy match. 29 years later, and it still hurts my brain thinking about it
Plus, you can argue him 'forgetting his losses' is in his character... There is a Ruble he commentates, He is in mid-sentence as his music plays to be the next entrant, so he enters and gets eliminated almost immediately. He then goes back to commentary and finishes his sentence as if he'd never left and acts like he never even left his seat.
Survivor Series 1990 truly was a case of extremes. The Undertaker debut...awesome. Gobbledy Gooker, not so much. I always laugh when Mean Gene speculates what's inside the egg. He teases the crowd with what could be inside..."is it the Playboy Bunny of the Month", only to have the Gooker break through the egg.
I always felt the winning brand of the "bread supremacy" was the members of the men's g weekend team guaranteed to be asking the last 5 entrants in the Rumble and the losing brand got the first 10.
I actually liked the way Lana won... but maybe because I like memes, and Luigi winning by doing absolutely nothing is one of my all-time favorite. So, yeah...
2:10 This is what pissed me the fuck off the most with that finish. Especially Lana's post match celebration. She was in tears and was celebrating as if she had just won the Royal Rumble or the main event of WrestleMania.
i have said before, and still feel, multiple matches though the year, one definitely being the survivor series 'brand warfare' match, should lead to a draft pick or even just taking a (non champion) from the other brand.. it could even include NXT, the one survivor series with raw vs smackdown vs nxt i thought was one of the better ones, and certainly one of the best brand warfare ones, having three teams, and something on the line could be interesting. they could even have, once or twice, someone betray their team in a deal so they can get moved to the other show... and then once someone else tries that, and the winning team doesn't choose them, so now everyone on their team hates them. granted the fact that the brands barely even exist makes it rather pointless now... but they could start actually sticking to the brands more. plus as much as i like war games, i do think one or two survivor series matches could also be done as well.
@1:15 DAAAAMN, why did you say that? Now I want to see that Rusev and Lana in WWE Video SOOOOO bad now lol. Also, Lana's theme songs were always AWESOME!
The late 2000s era of DX was such a damn headache. Shawn and Hunter burning Mike Nox by asking who he was (hilarious) so needless. Also can confirm Survivor Series is great. Thanks Punk.
