The last episode of Over The Garden Wall (no spoilers) just messed me up. It was so well done and just made the whole series just a perfect little show. It honestly made me sad because it meant there was no more.
Spoilers: It's just so sad seeing a once optimistic and happy little boy completely give up. And the music playing in the background doesn't help lol. Also the part with the Woodsman realizing the truth... my heart broke!
Over the Garden Wall is one of those rare shows that will forever stand the rest of time since each episode goes hard and knows what it's concluding to.
So I got into the show very late because every time it was on when it was airing was when I was doing homework as a kid, so I never got to watch it. I actually decided to sit down and watch it a year or so back and my mom actually wanted to watch it with me, and she’s not a big fan of cartoons so it surprised me. And we both loved it. It was actually such a good bonding experience for the both of us because it let us talk about my dad’s death and the possibilities of an afterlife. What’s even weirder is that our front door camera kept going off despite nothing being outside, and so my mom thought maybe it was my dad’s spirit trying to get back in, not knowing that he’s gone. The fact that a cartoon got me and my mom discussing death is insane and amazing. Major recommendation for anyone and everyone out there.
Even thought that clip isn't the best example i really like how 6teen doesn't dance around people being gay. Like theres this one episode where one of the main characters is asking a girl out and shes kind of stuttering and trying to get it out, and finally the crush says "if you're asking, then yes im gay, but i already have a date". You dont see that too often in old kids shows
Oddly enough despite being from the US which censored the show a lot in the 2000’s I do recall Nicktoons airing the “Girl Crush” episode albeit I didn’t finish it at the time so I’m not sure how much they censored that one
I REMEMBER THAT. Jimmy's voice in that pissed me off HE ISN'T SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE A CHILD HE'S SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE AN ADULT THAT'S HIS CHARM.. And the animation and the logic just... AGHHH it sucks it doesn't exist
@@scarykettle2087 IDK IT WAS GOOFY and not... aggravating (no hate to that child voice actor LMAO). The first movie just had more charm in general while the second movie felt like a cash grab. Ig I just have a vendetta against it like that one 3d animated Peter Cottontail movie I rented on Easter once.
SpongeBob's been dominating at the KCAs for Best Cartoon and all...but don't let this distract you from the fact that the ONLY animated show that managed to defeat SpongeBob for the award was Avatar the Last Airbender in 2008 (rightfully so; and the only time the show was nominated). Mentioning this will give SpongeBob flashbacks
yeah, but "having skeletons in the closet" is where we get the phrase "being in the closet" so the joke still works both ways. not to mention that the skeleton is very much a queer coded character lol. 🏳🌈💀
I see what you’re saying about Gingy, but to be fair, his girlfriend wasn’t just clingy, she was also pretty possessive and smothering. Within 7 minutes of them being together she put her picture over every photo of someone else in his house
1. I also thought Brenda and Ashley were young adults when they were *literal children* 2. If you watch continue to watch Big City Greens, (which please, you must), Gloria will continue to be one of your favorites and I predict that Tilly and Nancy will also be on your favorites list 3. Yes, I laugh at all of your jokes except for the ones I might not be cultured in (yet)
My favorite Halloween special: The Puppetmaster from Avatar the Last Airbender (yes, it feels like a Halloween special because it is; it was released on October 25, 2007 in the UK and November 9 in the US). The Puppetmaster proved it doesn't exactly need to be Halloween-themed for it to be a good Halloween special. And in the episode, we learn about someone who controls the bodies of Fire Nation villagers like nothing and forces them to go to a mountain who turned to be a waterbender who knows bloodbending named Hama. She teaches advanced Southern waterbending to Katara as they are the only waterbenders from the Southern Water Tribe left. But once Katara connected the dots, she fought Hama. Not wanting to see Aang and Sokka hurt each other because of Hama controlling them, she bloodbended Hama. But felt bad immediately. The only other time we see Katara bloodbending is in The Southern Raiders when she did it to a Southern Raider captain who she thought was the one who killed her mother until she realized that specific captain wasn't the one who did it.
Here’s a weird scene from a kids movie, there was the adult joke in Robots where it was the beginning of the movie where the build the baby and then they forgot to put on its third leg so they hammer it on
One of my favorite Nick Halloween specials is Big Time Halloween from Big Time Rush. Its very dumb and very cheesy, but it just gets me in a spooky mood and I watch it every Halloween.
i cant believe you brought up phineas and ferb and didnt bring up the episode where doofenshmirtz is a werecow. granted, i dont know if its a halloween special episode but i couldve swore it was. it just seems notable that he, yknow, was a werecow. he canonically, for an episode, would turn into a cow under the full moon, and i never forgot that episode. im begging you to watch it at least once if you have not.
Best Bob’s Burgers Halloween episode is still the Hauntening from season 6. “It’s something bad. It’s gonna kill us in this bathroom and it’s gonna…it’s gonna be easy to clean up because of the tile floor”
I was very scared going into this video about seeing puking in Halloween specials. I'm really happy that you didn't show it and that you also think it's disgusting. I am a huge emetophobe to the point where I can barely step foot outside of my door, so it's comforting to know I probably won't see that from your channel when other ones have no problem showing it
Omg I just watched Halloweentown again it’s so good but that exact line from Marnie in the beginning made me laugh and go “wth kids are so dumb that’s not how that works” bc it’s the fact I’m pretty certain everyone’s done that as a kid and it’s just so unnecessarily silly 😂🎃 Also new subscriber here I absolutely love your content so far!! ❤
I'm sure someone has commented this elsewhere, but I need you to know that Pinocchio killing the talking cricket (Disney named him Jiminy)was actually a part of the original Pinocchio story. The cricket meets him, tells him that he's lived in the same room for like 100 years, then Pinocchio kills him.
Y’know, if ya do a nick gameshow thing, please watch BrainSurge. It’s the most late 2000s/early 2010s kids gameshow ever imo (which maybe isn’t saying a lot but still) Oh, and just a note: if you watch any episode of BrainSurge, please don’t watch episode 216, it’s overrated as heck
The sheer amount of nostalgia with 90% of these, but ESPECIALLY 6teen Dude of the Living Dead. I remember loving it as a kid but damn it does not hold up lmao
Since you saw the SD Blair Witch special, have you taken the time to see Trick or Treat Scooby Doo? There’s so much blursed lore in it and actually improves one of my favorite characters in media :D
I knew that gorillaz music video struck a nerve in my nostalgia. Omgosh the evil pizza they ate at the end of the Jimmy neutron episode wow. Thanks for that 🙆🏾♀️
Omigod Pinocchio in that Shrek Halloween Special scared the SHIT out of me when I was little; I remember one time when my mom put it on I hid in my room until that part was over Also "Bushy Eyebrows Bitch Boy" better be a term on TVTropes
The Snoopy segments in that Charlie Brown special instilled in me the horrors of war and PTSD from the tender age of child and will never *ever* leave my mind
Halloweentown has been my favorite movie for YEARS! love watching it especially when its not halloween! The second ine (of four) is my absolute favorite and i can quote like the first one and half of the second...
You should totally make a video about all of Skatoony along with Fetch with ruff ruffman!! I never watched Skatoony but Ruffman was a big part of my childhood I think and they’re both pretty similar with the game show and combo of live action kid actors and fun animated characters and stuff!!
9:10 Heinz Doofenshmirtz is more than a star. He is a SUPER~STAR~! (anyone else remember that episode?) And I swear the end of Night of the Living Pharmacist was inspired by Attack on Titan (the one where it zooms out and shows the monsters outside surrounding the only safe place. Don't know how else to describe it)
Follow her guys! I do! She my bestie! Athena is the queen of chaos of fun + her makeup is always FIRE! Great review my friend, I agree some specials are good and some weird. 😅
The only reason I watched any amount of Skatoony was for Noah, Brick and Mike. So glad they had so many Total Drama character cameos since Brick isn't considered a fan favourite, at least according to All-Stars. I thought it was just going to be like, Owen, Gwen, Duncan, Mike.
3 minutes in and you have already become my fave youtuber for saying you hate vomit scenes. I am emetophobic and even just your small mention about these scenes made me feel so seen, i don't get how people tolerate it and its especially prevalent in kids media for like no reason
Wait the Blair Witch Scooby Doo episode is an official episode? I genuinely did not know that. For Halloween specials I’d suggest Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman and Ernest Scared Stupid.
I used to be absolutely terrified of the Shrek Halloween special! I was emetophobic as a kid so the puke scenes got me and I straight up had nightmares of Pinocchio killing Jiminy Cricketl
The lack of Phineas and Ferb knowledge you have is making me DEMAND an in depth Phineas and Ferb review because its genuinely the best piece of childrens media to ever grace this plain of existence
so i just rewatched scared shrekless to see which joke she was referring to about the three blind mice and i’m lost. what exactly is Athena referring that aged because they were just left at shrek’s house
weird scene in a movie that i want to mention: that one scene in the cgi horton hears a who movie where the monkey puts bananas into his mouth until one comes out through his nose. that scene always made me uncomfortable due to me knowing how painful that would be in real life to have a BANANA come out of your NOSTRIL, gross.
hi i recently found ur vids from a friend and i love your energy sm. i have two shows you should check out sometime: octonauts and the viva pinata show. octonauts mainly bc if i remember correctly that show has some pretty wild lore tbh and i feel like you'd get a kick out of anaylzing it and viva pinata bc holy shit that show is off the fucking rails i am not even joking theres an ep where a character gets accused of cannibalism, another where that same character snaps and " murders " this like fruitbowl guy ( basically a fruitbowl with a speaker inside ), this stalker fan obsessed with one of the main characters, episodes that are basically guess the writers fetish and so much more. it genuinely doesnt even feel like a kids show and one of the main characters is voiced by james pokemon's old va
13:27 I used to be scared of everything (I kinda still am but now I’m medicated) and I swore off watching gravity falls cuz of summerween being too scary (which unironically made the episode better upon rewatch)
I’d say my favourite Halloween special was the Farily Odd Parents Halloween Special Scary God Parents. I guess it might be because FOP was one of my favourite shows and it was just very memorable
You thought Maddie and London were adults? How? In one episode, Maddie has a school dance at the Tipton. And in several episodes London is shown to either go to school with Maddie or the twins and her just failing miserably. Also, they act like teens and have crushes on teen idols. The Jesse McCartney episode comes to mind.
I’ve gotta be honest, I’m disappointed Owl House and Monster v. Aliens were not on this list (Thanks to Them is a Halloween special, fight me), but hey, the rest of these choices seem very reasonable. Also, Veronica? VERONICA!? HER NAME IS VANESSA FOOL!
The amount I quote the Backyardigans Halloween special is unreal. On a different, odder note, I once did an improve speech about Sleepless in Retroville because I was given the prompt of pizza. (Edit) I do in fact quote a DIFFERENT Backyardigans Halloween special. It's where Austin is having a surprise party thrown for him but he doesn't know it, and he has to round up guests for the party. They are all monsters and the joke is that they're pussies who are scared of their own shadow.
My personal favorite Halloween specials: Scooby-Doo in "The Headless Horseman of Halloween" Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror I ("The Raven") Marc Summers' Magical Mystery Tour The Fat Albert Halloween Special Garfield's Halloween Adventure ("Candy...candy...candy...candycandycandycandycandycandycandy...") ...and my personal favorite... Witch's Night Out
Are you going to do the same with the old Christmas Specials? Like "Santa Claus is coming to town" "Jack Frost" (Animated, Not the Snowman one) "The year without a Santa Claus" "Rudolf" "Olive the other Reindeer" "
Fyi, the Scooby Gang canonically dont die in the Halloween special and it actually ends with Daphne and Velma beating the monster up. I know this sounds fake but its real lol
