Top Notch reviews, ya still the BEST in the business by far! No other reviewers covered the Ranown Westerns Criterion 4Ks & im totally thrilled ya did! I really appreciate ya bud & all these great vids you provide us collectors! I used your link to order both the western sets!
Love how amazingly detailed & accurate all ur reviews are! I look forward to watching each of your videos. Cuz of ur review i'm using ur links to get the Ranown Westerns, Les Miserables & Nevada Smith. Thanks so much for all ur hard work. Can't wait to watch these movies!
🥰Thanks for all your great comments & support! Your going to enjoy watching those Ranown Westerns FYI: I’ve been re-watching them again a 2nd time at night that’s how much I love😍them LOL!!!😜😋
Great reviews James! I picked up all these titles, except the last one, on release day. I haven't watched any of them yet but Great to hear the Ranown Western box set is well worth it. Looking forward to your next rare 4k video. Thanks
Great reviews!! Hugo arrived in my mailbox today and I'm loving it's finally out on UHD despite being an upscale, due to the massive bitrate increase. So glad it includes the 3D personally, that's the main reason I bought 😁
I will now be excited to partially see the les miserables 4K version, where I just want to add, that I buy movies mainly on the audio, since I have yet to see a great hdr movie, if anyone has any suggestions, then I am all ears…
Damn! Criterion can take a lesson from Indicator on how to package a collection! Disappointing to learn that they've skimped on packaging. Ugh. Thanks for the review!
I saw Hugo in 3D at the cinema in 2012. It was an excellent movie directed by the master Martin Scorsese. I am a big fan of westerns so I will be buying those 4K discs. Steve McQueen is my favourite actor too. I look forward to when Bullitt is released in 4K. I have a 3D Blu-ray player but not a 3D TV set. I prefer 2D movies because I am an old man whose eyes are not as good so I need reading glasses to watch all movies on TV.
I love Hugo but immediately had to get the Ranown set when the criterion sale started. Haven't made it through all the movies yet but for me the set is epic...even if the packaging stinks.
James , How are you doing today? Great show as always.I am looking forward to purchasing the Renown Western set. I already did get Hugo and Les Miz. I have to admit I am nervous with Shouts Natural Born Killers in September. I am hoping for 4k of directors cut. I was thinking if Arrow ever released a directors cut of Night Breed or Life Force on 4k, I think I would never buy a Scream factory item ever again.. Have you seen the 4k of To live and Die in LA yet? Have a great weekend.
Hello James how are you? I love how detailed your reviews are, I know I can trust them when I'm researching 4K titles before purchasing. I missed on the Powerhouse Indicator series box set of Five Tall Tales, which if you don't know, has the same 5 Randolph Scott westerners. So I was really happy this UHD set was announced. I actually QC'd Comanche Station and Ride Lonesome on DVD which I think were part of a 🇺🇸 set back in about 2014. I used to be a QC Technician at SonyDADC. brilliant films and it was lovely to see James Best in his Westerns career. I've never QC'd 4k but I do know it cost 3x the amount it does to author Blu-ray. The RRP on that Criterion box set reflects the work gone into the discs and of course the restoration too. The packaging is incidental. Criterion used to be a leader in this boutique label business but don't seem to have caught on with packaging quality. Essentially the packaging has no bearing on the release cost. Also, especially with these old film's, you'd never get an Atmos track out of the original audio without creating a whole new soundtrack, which of course wouldn't be anything like the original audio. Also it would all have recorded in mono and a lot of it would be on set audio, very little if any Foley. There's basically nothing to work with for even a 5.1. Great work as always. Trevor
I bought the Indicator blu-ray box set quite recently that has most of these in it. I'm not sure if it is worth me upgrading to the 4k set and would like to know your thoughts.
So far ive watched The Tall T and Comanche Station and i gotta say i think the Indicator blu rays look better. Viewing it on my Oled the colors look more washed out, darker and heavier contrast. You almost cannot even see Richard Boon in the camp fire scene at night. Still have the other 3 to watch but in the future I will prob watch the older blu's for quality.
🤔Your comments clearly tell me your 4K TV is NOT🚫 correctly or professionally calibrated for Dolby Vision/HDR content, because the scene with Richard Boone at night by the campfire 🔥 was very clear & easy to see without any black crush on all 4 of my professionally calibrated 4K displays & as I explained in this video each film in the Ranown boxed set looked drastically better than the previous indicator Blu Ray releases & when comparing side by side criterion’s had far better looking colors & color grading over the indicator Blu Rays! So your TV is enabling a incorrect darker theme setting & incorrect colors scheme when Dolby Vision content is being displayed! You definitely need to get your 4K TV calibrated professionally so you see each 4K the way it’s intended to be seen! Hope this helps you understand all of this tech a bit better, thanks!👌😉
