- 'Negro Eyes' (REM was called Negro Eyes when they first started out 😂) - 'The Pedophiles' (This was Paul DiAnno's punk band before he joined Maiden)

I am not even lying there was a band in Dallas in the late 80s menstrual gravy. Worse name I ever heard in my life.

According to Tony Wilson of Factory Records the worst band name ever was Crispy Ambulance.

Butthole Surfers - LOL!!! (Have some cool songs, though.) Hootie & The Blowfish - Corny as hell.

Mid 2000s metal/math core and grind core band names are 90 percent awful

In the 70’s, we had a lot of law firm bands, eg Emerson Lake and Palmer, but the recent trend is to do the same but semi-abbreviate the names into a frankenstein band name, eg HoBoLeMa. Terrible!!!

You could go on for days with those early to mid 2000s pretencious sounding metalcore band names. Dont even get me started.

When I was a teenager back in the early 80's, my friends and I formed a garage band in the Bronx...we thought we had the coolest name ever!!! "Volume Control".....but, after a few months we decided it was kind of lame so we changed it to something else....."Slutt" ...But, after a while we decided that name wasn't too good either so we settled on "Mad Axes".... but, then we found out that was actually a slang term for rappers...so, we changed it once again to The Bronx Maniax....which was the worst one yet! Eventually we said fuck it and broke up the band and that was the end of that....but, I sometimes wonder if we would have been successful if he had taken the time to think of a very good name.

I've got a few "favorites" to share: 1. Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade 2. Indignant Senility 3. Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat 4. Let me Introduce You To The End 5. The Electric Prunes 6. And in reserve, Thunderthighs or Starfucker (not STRFKR, the original from the '70's)

I was listening to Spooky Tooth in the car when my then-teenaged nephew asked who it was. When I said Spooky Tooth, he laughed and said it was the dumbest name he had ever heard. I had to agree, but the album (Spooky Two) is incredible!

- Hoobastank - Toad The Wet Sprocket - We Butter The Bread With Butter (and most other sentences-as-band-names too) - Metalium - Panic! At The Disco ( not necessarily a bad band name in itself, but mid-phrase exclamation points definitely are dumb) - Godspeed You! Black Emperor (see above) - Any and all of those pointlessy-long-name-just-for-the-sake-of-it band names, a la Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum (aka just "Eximperitus", if one's not into the whole brevity thing)

Death Angel, Morbid Angel, Fifth Angel, Seventh Angel, Iron Angel, Dark Angel, Fallen Angel In Belgium we've got a band called 'Kiss the anus of a black cat'

EXE was short for Executioner. They shortened it to EXE because there were so many bands with the name Executioner.

One name I could come up with is squirrel nut zippers

E-X-E were originally called Executioner, but were forced to change their name in 1986 after signing to Shatter Records, so as to avoid being confused with the Boston band Executioner. (It's also worth nothing that the renamed band's logo, stylised as 'E-X-Ǝ' in jagged metallic lettering, resembles an axe-blade when rendered on album covers.)

If you haven't looked them up Bathtub Shitter do a hilarious cover of Priest's Painkiller. It's a mix of Elmo on crack and Cookie Monster vocals. My new favorite song. And I typically don't like long band names either, but I do like: And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead Also a shout out to Jon Cougar Concentration Camp.

I remember seeing Dee Snider on Letterman one night and band names came up. Twisted Sister? And Dee told about a band member who was all excited, saying he has the perfect name for their then unnamed band. " I got it! We'll call the band "This", he proudly announced. Dee replied "This"?? "Yeah! Think about fans. Think about writers. "This" is awesome. "This" is great! To which Dee replied "How 'bout "This" sucks!?"

For some reason Butthole Surfers, Faster Pussycat, Winger, Green Jello(Jelly), and Corpse Vomit comes to mind.

Budgie is an awesome band but never got that name. Chris is hilarious should be a stand up comedian.

I've heard of the band Alabama Thunderpussy. There was a rather obscure Midwestern band calling themselves Thunderpussy who released an album called Documents of Captivity in 1973, which was a heavy rock band that touched on prog and psych.

The Beatles Lemon Jelly Weezer Limp Bizkit Def Leppard Counting Crows Toad the Wet Sprocket Scouting for Girls Corrosion of Conformity Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine Chris Alo’s point about the band name looking good on T-shirts is so true, when one considers that many acts will make more from merchandise sales than their music. A bad name and / or graphic design is really shooting yourself in the foot.

Off the top of my head I can think of, Van Der Graaf Generator, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, Mungo Jerry, Atomic Rooster, The Hootenanny Singers, Katzenjammer. Even some artists made up weird band names for album titles. Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars - David Bowie Zinc Alloy And The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow - T. Rex Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy - Elton John.

And then, there are some weird ones: - We butter the bread with butter - Vampires on Tomato Juice (awesome, sounds a little bit like System of a Down) - Japanische Kampfhörspiele (Japanese battle audio dramas)

I'm in the UK, in my 30s, and I first started collecting hard rock records as a kid in the late 90s and I remember encountering Lynyrd Skynyrd's name for the first time. I just assumed they were named after maybe a native America place or something.

My addition would be a band called the rods, great first album, saw them support iron maiden on the number of the beast tour. Still love their music to this day

The Melvins is one named after a high school janitor I believe. I thought there were some pretty generic names for 80s bands. White lion, zebra, stryper, Cinderella, great white, black and blue. To name a few. Maybe not the worst names but just no imagination.

I always remember the novelty song from the late 50s Camp Grenada.

Before Flied Egg the band was called Strawberry Path. And despite another weird name, their one album "When the Raven Has Come to the Earth" is a nice dose of early 70's hard psych.

Here are a couple more gems. (Different genres) : 1) “Sweaty Nipples” - Seattle band during the grunge era 2) “The Crazy World of Arthur Brown”- British ‘60’s psych band 3) “Badfinger”- Great British band from the early ‘70s 4) “The Fatback Band” - good ‘70s funk and soul band 5) “*NSYNC”- no words needed

We did a little tour in Germany in the '90s and one of our local support bands was Willie and the Wankers!

The UK indie scene of the 80s spawned some terrifically bad band names, but one of my favourites was the band who (presumably inspired by the name Frankie Goes to Hollywood) decided to call themselves 'Paddy goes to Holyhead' as they had a few Irish members (and Holyhead is a coastal town in Wales). They were formed in 1984, but even more remarkably, they are still touring today. To this day, I haven't listened to a single song of theirs, so I've no idea if they are any good or not. There were many others including Throbbing Gristle, Half Man Half Biscuit (who were great), and Cactus World News

I honestly believe Fanny could have been so much bigger if they hadn't decided on that awful name. Khruangbin is also pretty terrible. There are too many pop band names from the 80s to even mention (Bananarama, Duran Duran, Wang Chung...) but hey its a rock channel.

Plenty of names I think are actually terrible: Pearl Jam, Toad The Wet Sprocket, and most recently Imagine Dragons. But the one I always wondered about, and I liked the band, their logo and how the name sounded, was Def Leppard. I mean, it was Deaf Leopard after changing from Atomic Mass, which was awful too. Then they changed it too look like Led Zeppelin. But who would name a band after a deaf leopard ? that doesn't make any sense to me. Then there is always this band called Cattle Decapitation, lol. Edit: Thanks for recommending Lucifer, I hadn't heard of this band before. Pretty cool retro sound. But yeah, no idea why they named the band Lucifer.

WORST NAME EVER: "The Very idea Of Fucking Hitler" 80's hardcore band.

I'm 62 now but in my 20's I played drums in a band called Bad Riffs, my friends band was The Electric Tent Pegs.. We were featured in a local magazine with another band called Sheila and the P### Flaps!!!

Hey Pete love the channel but I have to correct you on one thing the band’s name is pungent stench not putrid stench I know you may not like this sort of borderline misogynistic kind of metal but I dig it and if you take the lyrics with a humor slant, the music is great if you’re into Motörhead, midnight or venom.
