Rap albums will always matter ALL music albums will ALWAYS MATTER… the difference is rappers dont respect the game anymore. They’re looking for trends they’re not looking to take the long road and build a project from the ground up. I have always said you got 2 typa rappers… the architects (those that put every detail possible into their projects) and the trend setters (those that are looking to make a hit) basically the same shi… as conscious/commercial rappers really but we have seen architects go commercial… you never really see these trend setters make all time great albums.

I think the reason why people don't care about new rap albums is simply cause rappers either copy a popular sound or they do they own sound and do it to death on a entire album(Dababy,Lil Baby and Polo G have music that's entirely similar and sound the same when you hear Polo G,Lil Baby and Dababy projects) I think an important fact you forgot is also evolution.Say everything you want, but why people should care about a rap project from Bossman Dlow or Sexy Redd if after that one project there's no evolution soundwise or even lyric wise.If you drop a project that's completely the same as the last one, people will definetely say that you sound the same on every single from that project and move on from that rapper. Nowadays albums are just a bunch of playlists/compilations of songs like a More Life for example, where there's not a unique sound,concept or lyricism. The experience from albums today it's just take your favorite songs from it so as us rappers we can make streams.It's not like there's a theme sound wise,concept or lyrics wise anyway.

@oogskskfn

No it’s definitely because of the market. They don’t sell well because the entire business model changed. There were shitty musicians getting airplay in the 70s,80s,90s, and 2000’s. The difference is that the shitty artist would still make their money back because the album sales from the mainstream platform almost always paid the overhead. Nowadays labels literally can’t afford to put the same amount of effort, time , or thought because the returns are less. Less people aren’t listening to music. More people are listening to music more than ever. So if the payment for the product is less, they’re going to saturate the market so they can run the numbers back up, get any kind of return. They will prioritize singles because album rollouts are EXPENSIVE and you don’t just need 100,000 impressions to break even you need almost 100 times that much. That’s why. They built the market for exponential growth to benefit the consumer and instead they devalued all of music. Acting like it’s about the value of the music artistically is a smooth brained take.
@Isaiah0018
@Isaiah0018 Месяц назад
@@oogskskfn Acting like the decline in people wanting to hear music isn’t about the quality the music is very smooth brained. You should go work at a label, you would fit inz People literally tell them every time they promote that they don’t like it They don’t like it which is why it’s not selling. Stop focusing so much on the market and understand that they have more reach for cheaper than they’ve ever had and less people listening to the music. Your argument is less credible by comparing today’s scene to the 70s 80s 90s and 2000s. I don’t know what shitty music you’re referring to back then but most of the music then was good. Which is why people were interested. You’re definitely a child for comparing this era in quality music to Back then. They just reported that their streams are down. All this market talk ur kickin put it out the window they’re not seeing any exponential growth. They’re seeing massive shrinkage. Read the comments when they promote this stuff no one likes it. Which is why they’re not listening or streaming it. Just in the 2010s artist were selling well through the streams. no longer is that happening

@@Isaiah0018 literally go and listen to the top 40s throughout the decades, most of it is actually radio rewind bubble gum pop or copy cat bands. The reason it’s considered good is because good music sticks around. Of course no one’s goin back to listen to Nilli vanilli or the shitty ballad rock right now in 2024. Y’all listen to the two good AC/DC albums and ignore the ten bad ones they made the rest of their career. Ignore the constant ripped off and stolen melodies. It’s called nostalgia bro. You were probably a kid in the 90s and didn’t study or learn the industry from people who were the decision makers like me. Again, nobody is talking about steaming NUMBERS they’re talking about streaming PROFITS. Because streaming services are leveraged out the ass. Again, in 1994 if a small band got 1,000 people to listen to their album they’d make 10,000 dollars. If a small band today got a person to listen to their album they wouldn’t make a quarter yet. I work in the music industry. Ive worked with radio Disney, multiple Grammy winners, and have my own marketing company. The same time you’re sitting there saying nobody listens to new music or likes new music Chappel roan is breaking records as an unheard of artist, and Latin music is becoming an almost hundred billion dollar industry alone. The country is heading into a recession so naturally the music industry is hitting a squeeze as well. It’s happened ever since the dot com crash and it will likely continue. This has nothing to do with individual art. The shit is just as vapid and empty as it always was. Instead of corporate entities gatekeeping radio it’s the untold masses making idiots famous. And the labels just follow where the money is. And whose fault is that? Y’all wanted free music so the music lost value. It’s really simple. Why the f would a label spend a million dollars to make an album if the streaming services make it impossible to make that money back with a profit? Regardless of any of that there’s good music everywhere, I listen to a new song from after Covid everyday that sounds like something from decades ago. You’re letting the 200 people in the billboard rankings decide what the wider public is actually into. It’s not the 80s anymore music isn’t controlled by the mainstream. While I love albums, artists are likely thinking Why spend so much money on making an album when its unlikely to guarantee positive ROI? Most artists’ money will come from shows, second to that is singles thanks to streaming. So the incentive to make a bunch of singles built for shows makes sense. The chance that your album will cost more than it earns. Is way to high to even try. As someone who genuinely loves albums, the economics behind it just screams bad investment

If in is based on fanbase and appreciation of art they matter but if it's for money they don't they really don't cause imagine making a good album only for someone to make something have as good but they have a charting hit and have sold out tours then you. Now while some artists can make good albums and tour without problems new artists can't avoid that luxury anyone who wasn't an artist in 2016 is feeling the pinch of not having a dedicated fanbase. Ice Spice is prove of how trends make you money while Ice Spice time is finite at best imagine telling someone to make art and sell that art like a product and have trash outsell them. In a business environment that is not a wise business move. That's why artists do multiple genres now to find new customers or customers but must balance business and art in their music. It's sad but hey get that dedicated fanbase then you'll at least be able to make art and money.❤

Exactly what I’m saying. Ppl can say whatever but that man is here to stay. I never seen a nigga with random songs off the album just keep blowing up months later. Then he first to shoot a video to capitalize off of it

You guys overuse that word. How are they classics if most people don't know or acknowledge them

Not gonna lie I used to love going out and buying albums but what’s changed is the theme of a “album” it feels like it’s just a collage of singles and a few extras that never get the attention they deserve. Most albums got all skips and 3 hidden gems.

They do matter, a lot of trash was coming out back then too. I guess people forget when they move on and judge the present generation with a critical lens and see the past as nostalgia, they remember only the good stuff.
