I left my truck abandoned for almost a year because of that issue i was getting pulled over but no tickets. I checked fuses relays and couldn’t find out the problem. I looked at the ground and it looked good but when I watched your video today I double check and it was loose. I grind the rust off and boom my lights work again. Thank you
If your driver side running light is not working, there could be a few potential issues: 1. **Burnt Out Bulb:** The most common reason is a burnt out bulb. Check the bulb itself to see if it's still intact and functional. 2. **Faulty Wiring:** Wiring issues, such as a broken or loose wire, could prevent the light from working. Inspect the wiring for any visible damage. 3. **Bad Socket or Connector:** The socket or connector that holds the bulb might be damaged or corroded, preventing proper electrical connection. 4. **Grounding Issue:** Poor grounding can affect the electrical connection and cause lights to malfunction. Ensure the light has a good ground connection. 5 **Water Damage:** If water has seeped into the light housing, it could damage the bulb or wiring, leading to issues. It's recommended to start by checking the bulb, then moving on to the wiring, socket, fuses, and switches. If you're not comfortable diagnosing and fixing the issue yourself, it's advisable to consult a professional mechanic or auto electrician to properly diagnose and address the problem.
You can also use white lithium grease on the connection and it will make it water resistant for the most part and it doesn't dry out eventually like dialectic grease.
Question for anyone who knows. What is the CORRECT lighting configuration? Ie, what lights are supposed to be lit, and when? Since I have an electrical bug, my lights arent functioning properly, so im unsure what and when each light should be on. Include the front turn/parking lights also, if you know. THANKS.
I've got the exact same problem with my 1992 GMC CK 1500 Sierra . I have tried to trouble shoot the problem several times. I removed my trailer hook up and I moved the ground to a cleaner location. It did half way work for a while, and sometimes they work some, but not near as bright as they should be. Tomorrow, I am going to go back under the truck and grind a place really clean to attach the ground .... thank you for your video !
As soon as I saw your tail lights go dim I automatically suspected a ground issue like a connection with rust or corrosion underneath. After watching your video I was right. Very good video and detailed description. Great job and I'm glad you found the problem. Well at least you don't have to worrie about new circuit boards anymore because you replaced them. You should be good now for many more years to come.
Thanks Joe. Apparently I could’ve used you while I was troubleshooting the issue. I got there eventually, but it took me a while. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thank for the video I have an 03 that has been having turn signal issues I was going to change the turn signal switch itself but now I have something else to look at first before I change that out. Never thought about the round wires but older trucks like ours it is a sure problem!
Thank you for this video. I'm having this exact issue with my tail/turn lights. My truck has 404,987 miles. I changed the tail light circuit boards with no change. Tomorrow I'm going to check the ground.
I apologize for not responding sooner. Per your video, I did have a faulty ground. When I barely wiggled the ground, it came off the screw. I used my grinder to bare the frame, replaced the eyelet ring, & self-tapping screw. They work great now. I've had my truck since she was six(6) months old, so the ground had 400,000+ miles of corrosion. Thank you for your video!
Sounds like a circuitboard issue. I would start with checking the bulbs for the tail and brake lights. If they check out then you may need to replace the circuit boards. It might also be a wiring issue.
@@BudsSmartHome the connector underneath the bumper driver side wire got caught in the chassis and was cut Brown wire is park yellow is reverse other is brake black is ground. Brown was cut .
THANK YOU A MILLION! It was the ground wire for me too i spent 3 days looking thru everything and buying new parts and I cleaned the rust off that ground wire it works like a charm now!
I've been searching the internet for months and finally found your video, I'm having the same issues with my 97 suburban. IDENTICAL problems. Soon as the weather breaks I'm crawling under there and finding that ground or similar one. THANK YOU BUD
Had the same issues with my brake lights. An it was definitely that ground wire! Had to cut it back a half inch an clean it up like u said an worked out good! Video was very helpful! Thankx!
I have a 1995 GMC Sierra. My turn signals work fine until I turn the headlights on and the left (drivers side) Turn signal will no longer work , headlights back off, turn signals works fine
One of your headlights likely share a ground with one of your turn signals. Therefore a weak ground will only allow one component to operate at a time, not both. Clean and tighten this ground to start with and go from there. The most common ground location for Chevy trucks is on the firewall. Other common ground wire locations include the door hinge, fender well, and battery tray. In some cases, the engine block may also be used as a ground location.
I just had this exact same issue, but mine was only intermittently on my 1990 Chevy K3500 Extended Cab 1-Ton 4x4 Dually. It took me forever to track down what the problem way because I never knew when it was going to happen, lol.
I have a 98 Z71 has no left signal front or back but everything seems to work otherwise... I'll give the ground a shot before I start throwing money at relays...
02 Silverado. 6 Ground points. Cleaned and Reattached. Solved my electric gremlins. I'm switching to LED's and the truck has been a tow vehicle. Freakin Towing Diodes on the rear. It's just 12 volts, what could go wrong?
I was going crazy trying to figure out why my tail lights wouldn't work. The break lights worked and when I turned on the blinkers they would blink rapidly. I changed all the light bulbs and it did nothing. I came across this video and checked the ground connection and it was all rusty. I cleaned it off and like magic everything worked like it should. Thanks for video!!!
Just purchased a '99 Yukon SLT and recently a very similar issue came up with my drivers side taillight. Bought new bulbs and tried a different circuit board yet the same issue persisted. Got pulled over last night *no ticket* because of no drivers side taillight. Going to try the ground connection. Thanks for this video....!!!
Thanks for the info and direction...had the same problem and went looking for the ground connection In my case no connection the bolt rusted off the frame I had to take a ball pean hammer to knock the scale from the frame then wire brush the frame and ring connector drilled a new hole and now problem solved all the result of a rust belt truck thanks again!!!
Got the same issue on my 07 duramax. Gonna check it out in the morning to see if it's ground. Was in body shop last week getting a new rear bumper and some paint/ repair on the right lower corner of the bed. Lady smashed it two weeks ago. Wonder if the body shop wiggled wires or whatever reason. We will see tomorrow. Good video here carefully explained
Sometimes my daytime running light will not burn on passenger side & my turn signal on driver side will not flash. Would you suggest checking that ground?
i have a similar problem with my chevy express van, its intermittent though which makes it weirder. also when they blinkers are flashing rapidly it does it with or without the headlights on. what happens is for no apparent reason both blinkers start blinking rapidly for a few weeks then itll stop for a few weeks then itll start again etc...been happening for the past couple years. all bulbs are new, pigtail harnesses in the rear are brand new, dont know whats going on, mechanic cant figure it out he said he checked all the wires, about to bring it to the chevy dealer but i know im gonna pay hundreds to fix a problem that is probably very minor
hugeCRSfan69 Are you sure the mechanic check the ground strap? If it were me I would detach the ground wire from the frame and brush the frame well and reattach it to see if that fixes the issue
I'm not really sure thelastdon. The body design and frame structure on a 96 is the same so I would think that the location would be the same as on a 97.
Could be one of three issues: 1- Faulty brake light switch: The brake light switch, located near the brake pedal, is responsible for activating the brake lights when you press the pedal. If the switch is faulty or misadjusted, it can cause erratic brake light behavior. Consider having the brake light switch inspected and replaced if necessary. 2- Wiring or grounding issue: Check the wiring harness and connections associated with the brake lights. Loose, damaged, or corroded wires can disrupt the electrical current, leading to abnormal flashing behavior. Similarly, poor grounding can cause electrical issues. Inspect the wiring and address any problems found. 3- Malfunctioning flasher relay: In some cases, a faulty flasher relay can cause rapid flashing of the brake lights. The flasher relay controls the timing and rate of the flashing lights. If the relay is malfunctioning, it can cause irregular behavior. Consult the vehicle's manual or a professional mechanic to locate and replace the flasher relay. If you're unable to diagnose or resolve the issue on your own, it's recommended to consult a qualified mechanic or an automotive electrician. They will have the expertise and tools to identify the precise cause of the problem and perform any necessary repairs.
Need help figuring out why no brake lights I just replaced circuit boards so have tail lights and when hazard on back passenger light works and turn signal but driver side doesn't work but tail light what is the solution or issue ???
Would cleaning the ground wire at grelimn point get brake lights to work got new bulbs good new circuit boards in and got turn and tail light works but still no brake lights ?? Help please one of the last things to get done before road ready !!
I have a 1998 gcm seirra. So all my lights work perfect, besides my driver side tail running light. If I push hard on the clip or bulb it works. Everything is brand new in the back. How do u fix this problem.
Bryan- it may be a faulty lightbulb circuit board, or it could simply be that you have bad contacts in that lightbulb socket. It could be that the bulb itself is faulty. If it were me, I would start with replacing the bulb and putting a little bit of light bulb socket grease in prior to inserting the new bulb. If that doesn’t work you may want to pull the board and check it for problems, and perhaps replace it with a new one.
@@BudsSmartHome I have replaced the circuit board. But if I squeeze the circuit board the bulb works. Even tho its brand new. Think they sold me a crap circuit board?
Man I hope I'm missing a wire somewhere along the line, I just cleaned my ground surface and reconnected and still have no taillights and hyperflash on just the passenger side, no dash lights either... Very frustrating, haven't been able to drive at night for about 3 weeks now
I’m fairly certain it’s a ground issue. I think there is an additional ground near the front of the truck. It’s more than likely that you have a bad ground wire leading to the tail light on the left side, passenger side. Yes It can be very frustrating.
@@BudsSmartHome I'm curious why you didn't check the connectors to the tail light assemblies, before you went to the time and expense of replacing the tail light circuit boards? Also, when you say "you might have a bad ground on the passenger side", what specifically should be checked? Is there literally a pax and driver side ground cable location? I would've assumed it's only one actual ground bolt. Or are you checking for other corroded connectors, or a broken/damaged wire? I'm just not sure what I should be looking for. Thanks.
@@coeneschamaun1735 ~ Suffice it to say that I approached this with a trial and error approach. I just continued to troubleshoot until I found the source of my problem. My electrical troubleshooting skill is marginal, but following this experience I've learned that more times than not, vehicle light issues are associated with poor or bad grounds.
@@BudsSmartHome "marginal" trouble shooting skills....haha, says me with "non-existent" trouble shooting skills, HAHA. I sure hope I can figure this out, gonna try tomorrow.
@@BudsSmartHome I'm having a issue when using my left turn signal and my front lights, sometimes both turn signals will work fine, most of the time with lights off. But as soon as I turn on low beams or high beams, I am unable to use my left turn signal
