danny carey's snare drum is a custom cast 18 inch bronze drum that weighs almost 50 pounds. and cost more than most people's cars. he is the most famous polyrhythmic drummer in the world, today. if you'd like to see people equally as talented, but far less known due to the fact that they either lack the ability to or don't know anyone that can write songs, just go check out your local college's jazz program the next time it does a showcase. when danny carey isn't in the studio or on tour, you can find him playing in the local jazz clubs in LA. anyone can be a good improvisational polyrhythmic drummer, honestly. just takes practice, like any instrument and style. what TOOL has, the collaborative effort of all 4 members, is really really special.

This video is such a feast for drummers and a display of technique and composition. It’s one thing to play comfortably and in the pocket in odd time signatures, but the way Danny floats between them in the verses and chorus, then puts on a clinic in polyrhythms with a clever use of the Swiss triplets is mind bending to watch. It either makes you want to quit or to immediately go practice. When it comes to arts and music, I don’t think “greatest” can be quantified, but Danny is one of my favorites and certainly among the elite. For legendary, still active rock drummers with mind blowing chops and composition, check out Jimmy Chamberlin from Smashing Pumpkins. Trained as a jazz drummer, he brings a sense of swing infused into their rock music, often keeping a hi-hat pulse with his left foot against rock rhythms. Great player

Tool has been my favorite band since they came out when I was 14. Extremely unique sound. They break every mold. Very complex time signatures in their songs. There is no such thing as best drummer in world because it’s biased based on your taste.but Danny is on same level and a greatest of all time. No question.

Crush had a good one. Dream Theatre also das a great drummer in their earlier stuff. Older 70's band King's Crimson had some great drumming.

I watched a video earlier maybe (Protney) affiliated with dream theatre band. Took him over 3 hours to figure out the time signature and roughly 5 hours to play it. He was talking about complex math. I saw another guy claiming he plays a different beat in all four limbs which makes sense.

He's one of the best drummers in the world he will actually say that too. When you get to different levels of drumming it it's not you're better as you usually different or a different style so that puts you in a category. One of the main things is that I understand most drummers who watch other drummers will not take their eyes off of them because they're either learning something new or focusing something that they need to get done apparently several times there were best parts in this video and you removed your eyes from the visual content maybe in the future as you were saying you need to practice with a visual content toward other drummers everybody needs to practice I've played for years and I stopped playing but I still have a urge to see and hear other drummers thank you keep doing what you do.

Hi. Tool fan here. Just stumbled upon your page. I think you may also like to react to Rammstein Du Hast live in Paris and a song called Engel, also live, among others. There is also a band called Nightwish and most people start with the song, Ghost Love Score live in Wacken. They have had three singers that all are good, in my opinion, their current singer is my favorite. Also, if you react to them it's best to see their live performances.
