No autotune that’s just how Peter sounded his voice changed in the early days of Chicago when he got his jaw broken at a baseball game and it was Wired closed so he had to learn how to sing differently and changed the texture of his voice for the better
I had no idea. I always wondered why he sang with his mouth mostly closed. I usually have to read lips when I'm watching videos and always had a very hard time with him (now I know why)
This is off Chicago 17. Chicago 17 (1984) the go to panty dropping album during the mid 80s. As a side note there was no auto tune in the 80s just as there were no inner ears back then either. This was Peter Cetaras final album album with Chicago. He was with them from 67-85. Chicago went on for a few more yrs after this
And on the flip side of the cassette was "Hard Habit to Break". I'm convinced he could have sang the phone book and it would have been outstanding. He also had a couple of duets, one with Cher "After All", and "The Next Time I Fall" with Amy Grant.
I saw them in concert in Cleveland 1986. They were three hours late due to severe fog in New York. We waited. They played non-stop for over two hours! It was so good and worth the wait!
I love Peter Cetera’s voice! This is the eighties…no auto tune here! 1984 is when this classic tune was released! It was a great year for music! That was not a young Bruce Willis! Bruce was a lot fining than that and his hair was dark! 😂! ❤❤
1970. I bought their first album called “Chicago”! I played that thing over and over and over again… The 70s had some great groups and entertainers! One of the best decades of music.❤❤😊
This is when some corporate types whispered in their ears and said "Get haircuts, cleanup your image, start doing ballads I can get you on adult contemporary radio stations and we can all make millions of dollars". That is basically what they did. This era of Chicago is VERY different from the 70's era. Both are good, but I like the rock and horns from the 70's.
This was every teen’s dedication to their boyfriend or girlfriend! I love Chicago and Peter Cetera’s voice is unmistakable. If you want to see a young Bruce Willis, watch reruns of Moonlighting, it’s where he got his start (but it does look like him).
One of the great 80s rock ballads. Chicago had more than just one as well. And yes Cetera had that voice. And no autotune, wasn't even a thing for another 10+ years.
You definitely have to react to Chicago hard habit to break it was from the same album Chicago 17 which was Peter Cetera the lead singer last album with group he went solo after that and had a great solo career as well
Peter Cetera has unique, but great vocals. I read this about the way he enunciates his words: During a break in the touring in the summer of 1969, Peter Cetera was set upon at a baseball game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. "Four marines didn't like a long-haired Rock 'n' Roller in a baseball park," Cetera recounts, "And of course I was a Cub fan, and I was in Dodger Stadium, and that didn't do so well. I got in a fight and got a broken jaw in three places, and I was in intensive care for a couple of days." The incident had an effect on Cetera's career and an impact on his singing style. "The only funny thing I can think about the whole incident," he said, "is that, with my jaw wired together, I actually went on the road, and I was actually singing through my clenched jaw, which, to this day, is still the way I sing."
This song was dedicated to me by my 10th grade boyfriend Steve. My first real kiss 😘. Music can bring back such great memories. We used to sneak in the woods behind our housing area. Lol! Great reaction! What does military brats would do.😅
Stay the night, is another banger from Chicago and many, many, many more of them. I lot of girls dressed like Madonna, you just saw a random couple dressed like their music Idols. I love Chicago!!
Guys, there was such a thing as studio effects before autotune. Almost everything is processed to get the best sounds. It doesn’t take away from anyone’s talent. It’s just, ya know, being in a studio, with studio equipment, and a competent engineer. It’s like just because someone isn’t wearing purple eye shadow doesn’t mean the person isn’t wearing makeup. But, still someone’s gonna be talking about how they love the natural look. David Foster produced some of the best voices of our time, and I assure you he used every studio trick in the book to create the best sound.
You just transported me 39 years back in time almost to the day. My husband (who has a beautiful tenor voice) sang this song on his 27th birthday at my youngest sister’s wedding in August 1985. I still feel the same way about my husband as explained in this song. 🥰 In Aug 1985, we had 3 sons (ages 1.5, 2.5, & 3.5) and I had a miscarriage just 4 days before the wedding (was that the baby girl that I wanted?). My sister the youngest of us four was leaving Mom and Dad empty nesters. That was emotion filled week to say the least. But a week of beautiful memories. Thanks for the memories.
Chicago almost disbanded after the death of Terry Kath in January of 1978. The band decided to continue and it has continued with various members until this day.
Peter Cetera was amazing, check out some of both his solo work and Chicago, Glory of Love was a Huge hit for Peter Cetera and the movie Karate Kid, as for Chicago they had alot, Hard habit to break is probably my fav, but Stay the night, Along comes a woman and many more
Now music is a factory for profit, but back then it was a creative endeavor for the art and love of making music. Money was a perk and bonus and the way the labels worked the contracts back then and now, most artists even today make very little of the profit and if you put it on a streaming service, you make less than a penny per listen and they have to listen at least 30 seconds of the song for the artist to get paid.
Was used in a movie. This is also know as one of the songs that almost ended Chicago. David Foster produced the album and cut down the horns and added strings and then wanted Peter Cetera to be the lead permanently but the band said no, so he talked Cetera into going solo
Chicago is an American Rock Band fomed in Chicago in 1967. The group began calling themselves The Chicago Transit Authority in 1968 then shortened the name to it's current one in1969. Self-described as a "Rock and Roll Band with Horns", their songs often also combine elements of Classical Music, Jass,R&B, and Pop Music.
Chicago is still touring. I just saw them with EWF. You need to try and see them in concert Mr. Black Pegasus. To finally see the person with that voice you commented on was awesome. They sounded just like their records. It was amazing.
I love Chicago. Thank you for choosing them to react to. Among my favorites are "Just You & Me" and "Make Me Smile" from the early days (Chicago II).❤❤❤ Young Bruce Willis was cuter but I do see the slight resemblance!😂
There's almost always a hall effect of some type, depending on room size, it helps fill the voice out, but with singers like this that's about all they use. It's not a crutch, but the voice looses something, especially on the bottom end one it goes through a microphone and speaker, or a microphone and a recording unit. So a hall effect unit puts that back in an d the voice is more natural. Some hall effects add reverb. The one I had in the 80s and 90s had eight type settings, and four of them had a chorus and or reverb effect. It was some model of the Alesis Nanoverb, do not remember the model. It worked.
You're right, it was a huge wedding song. An even bigger wedding song from them was Color My World with Terry Kath on vocal from 1970. And you're right again about their sound. After Terry died they unfortunately lost their heavier rock edge. I love them but pre-Terry's death, early Chicago, to me, is the best. Hello from sunny Florida 🌴🌞 p.s he does look like a young Bruce Willis! 😂
Okay, now go back eleven or twelve years or so (the 70's) and listen to Peter Cetera with lead vocals on "Dialogue, Pt. I & Pt. II", "Just You N Me", "25 or 6 to 4", "Feelin Stronger Every Day." Of course, Chicago has had many great hits with their other lead vocalists as well, Particularly Terry Kath and Robert Lamm: "Beginnings", "Make Me Smile", "Saturday in the Park", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is?" All of their songs from the 70's are worth a listen!
The David Foster era was contentious because the band was primarily known for their horns and general lack of their photos on albums. Foster gave the band some of their biggest hits, but the horns were largely absent and now they were making music videos. If you look closely, you can see a band member reading the paper probably in quiet protest.
Chicago had 2 eras... with guitarist Terry Kath and after Terry died. After Terry died, the record company made more demands that they make love songs as they sold so well and nobody really fought against that. There was squabbling as the drummer wanted to takeover the lead and they tossed him. Peter later went solo but he was a founding member and sang 25 Or 6 To 4. He evolved a lot over the years. As for the outfits in the video, everybody wanted to dress like Madonna and her dancers! Kind of reminds me of C'mon Eileen too. I got to see Chicago with Terry 3 times and most recently in 2016 with Earth Wind & Fire. EWF and Chicago are still touring together. If you get the chance, go see them.
